Chapter Two: The Nantinaq Stirs
“Some creatures don’t announce themselves. You just realize… they’ve been following you.”
Week 2 brought the hunters of the Valley into Whispering Doakes, home of tight fairways, strange shadows, and enough trees to make you question every line. The wind rolled through the woods all afternoon, carrying whispers through the branches.
And with it came Nantinaq.
Alaska’s version of Bigfoot. Massive. Silent. Watching from the tree line. Some say you hear branches snapping before you see him. Others say if you do see him... it’s already too late.
With the wind swirling through the course, players weren’t just battling Doakes.
They were battling the beast.
???? A Tier — Frank Tracks the Monster
For the second week in a row, Frank Costales looked less like a player and more like a creature from legend.
After last week's 1016-rated slaughter, Frank followed it with another dominant -9, proving Week 1 wasn't luck. The beast is still hunting.
Following his trail:
Mason Minturn — -6, emerging from the woods with one of the strongest rounds of the day.
Thomas Voight — -5, steady as ever.
Patrick Phelps — -4
Jake Ratliff — -4
Kelly Allen — -3
Justin Foster — -2
Doakes made everyone earn every birdie. The wind showed no mercy.
⚔️ B Tier — Shapes Moving Through the Trees
Only a few escaped the woods untouched:
David Griffin — -4, leading B-tier and surviving Nantinaq's territory.
Alex Strawn — -3
Christopher Foley — -3, keeping pace despite the wind.
Jeremy Ratliff — -1
Aaron Richardson — +1
Adam Fogelman — +4
Scott Bowen — +7
Some players found birdies.
Others found trees.
???? C Tier — Strange Footprints
Deep in the woods, things got weird:
Jon Rhine — +1
Ettore Fistarol — +2
Wilson Jennings — +9
Larry Nunes — +9
Rumors spread after the round that large footprints were spotted near the rough…
Probably nothing.
❄️ D Tier — Escape the Forest
Andrew Belanger — +6, surviving the woods better than anyone in D-tier.
James Feldhausen — +9
Jax Ratliff — +13
Rheannon Fabrello — +15
Not everyone escapes Nantinaq cleanly.
???? Week 3 Preview — The Qalupalik
Next week we head to Meier Lake — Short to Shorts.
And beneath the water waits The Qalupalik.
The creature beneath icy waters.
The thing that drags the unwary under.
Miss your line at Meier...
…and something might pull you into the depths.
Two weeks down.
Eight remain.
The Valley is getting stranger.
