Hi Josh, This is a great idea. I wonder if something to think about for next time might be the overall time commitment to participate. 8.15 to 5pm as stated is a big commitment for many people for playing a couple of rounds at Jellie. I realise there are other events as part of it, but the timings for them seem generous even if you had 40 or 50 people involved.
I've not ever thrown a Berg, but with a 12pm start or even 10 or 11am I might have thought about giving it a go.
Having Bottle Lake on this coming weekend probably isn't helping with numbers either, but a shorter event may have helped.
During the planning stages along with some insight and initial encouragement from others in the community - i had over 60 people say they were absolutely keen just in the people i'd personally met. So between that and the several month lead in - we did expect/hope for quite a few more registrations. The date was locked in months back, planning specifically around other disc golf events and the only openings Jellie had (cricket, music festivals, triathlons etc). So we learned about the difficulties of a saturday - but had planned around having approx 60+. Other events organised since also conflict - and that's just life. Then i combined it with the average run time of most casual groups going around jellie with new/untrained discs - and feedback from about 20 strangers i'd interacted with around jellie to get a feel for less experienced run through. And the timings felt quite spot on at the time.
Fast forward 4 months - and we're going to be able to drastically speed up the event timeline absolutely. We'll confirm that in the days before the event as we look at the next few days and reshape.
Definitely not an oversight so much as some learning and missed expectations - but i've also done this almost entirely solo which has had its lessons and challenges. I'm stoked either way - what originally was just an idea for a fun day has actually grown into something (with events the rest of the year). But yeah - definitely some key learning around this.
I appreciate your thoughts though - is absolutely something to keep in mind!
