We had our best showing of the winter so far on Week 3 (18 players!) and no wonder, it was a crisp, beautiful, low-wind day.
John kept his podium streak alive and notched another win to boot to take the top prize in A pool with a score of -11 (unofficially 993 rated). Right on his heels were Beckner, Flannery, and Sramek who each finished at -10 (979 rated).
In B Pool, Cody put the hammer down notching a bogey-free -9 (965 rated). Quite a way behind him were Naz, Britton, and Weslee who all fought it out for the other cash spots in B Pool. Naz edged Britton and Weslee by one to take solo 2nd; Britton and Weslee split the T3 position and almost made their member-rate buy in money back.
In C Pool Eli lit it up with a +1 which is a whopping 45 points above his rating. Nice shooting Eli! Matthew Murphy nabbed the other cash spot winning his entry fee back. Matthew has been to league twice and cashed both times (he's up $0.25 overall :D). Way to go Matthew and thanks for coming out to league!
A shoutout is also warranted for Rachel! Rachel is a regular to winter leagues but this was the first time she was a competitor and it was great to see her out there playing some solid disc golf!
In terms of the Goon...
Between all the top five finishers there were a total of 2 birdies over all of their rounds... I will need to institute a few mandos or extra holes in the coming weeks at the Goon to make the course play a bit tougher. As was the case last year, -12 seems to be the threshold of a 1000-rated round at the Goon.
Next week we'll be at Davis for the Frozen Turkey Tourney. If you plan to play, sign up on the tourney page here:
https://www.discgolfscene.com/tournament/2024_Frozen_Turkey_Tourney_2025
DO NOT SEND ME YOUR USUAL VENMO ENTRY FEE FOR WEEK 4! Since week 4 is doubling as a fundraiser tourney, there will be no payouts and the entry fee must be paid via a frozen turkey, a spiral ham, or $20 (paid the morning of the tourney via cash or Venmo). The ace pot will remain active for the tourney and I will be accepting $1 entry fees on the day of the tourney via cash or Venmo. If you don't pay into the ace pot, you will NOT be eligible for the ace pot (unlike a regular league round where everyone is automatically in the ace pot).
Hope to see you out there!
