Hello all, I hope everyone that played in the tourney will read this. I am certainly not a local OG disc golfer but I have been playing tourney's out here for about the last 3 years. I have tremendous respect for all of the local TD's out here that donate their time to run our events. I have some serious concerns of the TD, Alex Owens, who ran this years doubles tourney. You all can read the previous comments made since this tourney concluded (09/08/24). I would really like to give Alex the benefit of doubt but at this point it would be clear he has not been honest with us. One thing is clear that to my knowledge no one has been paid nor have the trophies been delivered. I know of one team being refunded their entry fee that put in an early withdrawal, on 10/15. Alex early on reported that the funds have been held up by PayPal due to he just opened a brand new account and the activity was "suspicious". He then claimed that it was a mishap and he used lack of judgement by opening the new account. Now this all can be true as far as the new account and it being deemed suspicious. The communication becomes sporadic and contradicting from here on out. Take the time to read the comments below. Alex did provide his phone number and we spoke on 10/14. We had a candid conversation and he explained his side and issues behind PayPal. I have never dealt with PayPal before so I took his word for what was going on with the funds. He also explained that he could not update DGS with the results due that there were several pending refunds. I suggested that he post them in a email form. He did post the results on this page. Alex posted that PayPal started issuing funds $120-$130 2 to 4 times a day starting on Oct 7th. He went on to report that AM scrip is about $3,600 total and as soon as he had enough funds to cover that he would send out the codes for Gem Discs. Obviously if this were the case there would be more than sufficient funds to cover AM scrip to date. Alex also reported on here that he would obtain a personal line of credit to cover all fee's. On 09/26 Alex said that he had submitted his line of credit to cover "all" and that the trophies would be sent out any day. On 10/15 Alex said on here that he covered the cost for the trophies out of his own pocket. Mr. Owens has been stating on here for the last month that the trophies would be out any day. I found this odd that if in fact the trophies had been paid for why they had not been delivered by Alex. Today (10/28) I called Orbital Creations Trophies who is the supplier. They were very cooperative but stated that Alex had stopped communicating with them 3 weeks ago and they have not received any money whatsoever. In fact they did not have a phone number for Alex and they only communicated via email. Orbital Creations was considering polishing the team names off the trophies and recycling them. I did contact the PDGA regarding any recourse if we never receive our winnings. They stated that since it is a non sanctioned event there is little action they can take. They suggested civil action, if necessary.
