Don't see the need personally. They are certainly dry and not slick at all. I'm sure it makes it easier but that defeats the purpose if you can choose to not use the designated pad. I see most come from the side and step up onto the pad to make the throw

Andy, you don't use the shorts lol the shirt red tee basically faces 45⁰ away from the basket, it's aimed at the old pin location on 6 that used to be right next to the water, so the shorter tees usually allows for teeing off in the dirt
