Hi Jamalle, I’m very sorry to hear about the death of a member of your family. We implemented a cancellation policy that aligns to the PDGA Competition Manual for Disc Golf Events. Additionally, we’ve followed policies implemented by many Disc Golf Pro Tour events as our goal is to provide an experience as close to that of a DGPT event for all competitors given the resources we have available. To directly answer your question as to why the policy applies if there isn’t a waitlist – there isn’t a waitlist as registration is still open for professional players and there are still spots available. Section 1.03 D. of the Competition Manual states the following: “Players who officially request to withdraw from an event 15 to 29 days before the start of the event will receive a 100% monetary refund of their entry fee minus up to a $10 handling fee only if their spot in the tournament is filled by a player who is on the waitlist at the time of the withdrawal request. If the player’s spot is not filled, the TD has the choice to provide either a 50% monetary refund of their entry fee or just the player’s pack the player would have received if they had attended (minus the cost of shipping). In the case of a player in a Pro division for an event without a Pro player pack worth at least 25% of the Entry Fee, the TD will provide the 50% monetary refund.” The notes attached to a withdrawal request aren’t reviewed to determine our actions as we follow the policy for all competitors no matter the circumstance as that is the fairest approach we can take. We specifically ask that all registrants review and agree to the withdrawal policy for this reason. Again, I am sorry for your loss.
