I was just watching a youtube video of a past High Plains Challenge and 2 of the players on the card were wearing mosquito nets on their heads. One of the commentators said it was "the most annoying round I've ever played". Are the bugs always that bad there? May 25, 2023

Brent Schupner May 25, 2023It wasn't that bad at the Zanfel event in mid-April, but it could be worse after all the spring rain we've had. Definitely recommend bringing bug spray.

Brian Cox May 25, 2023thanks for the info, guys. I'm from Texas so I'm used to monster mosquitoes but I had never seen (multiple) people playing with nets on their heads lol. Had me worried.

Because of that year, I carry a face net. Definitely, expect it to be worse than the last few years. ...

The 2015 final round was pretty similar for optimist layout. It was one of the years we didnt play Pessimist. Damn those bugs were awful. So much Deet and playing in pants/long sleeves cause them gnats bites itched like crazy.

I was up there Monday and got bit a half dozen times by mosquitos but it's really not bad just in a few areas. I would suggest being prepared with bug spray but a net wasn't necessary imo. Having both just in case wouldn't hurt though depending on upcoming weather. Pessimist with the stagnant ponds was the worst part of the 2 of course. Gnats were minimal.
