It’s looking like we may not have a full division in MP60 due to one player dropping out. I don’t think I’d be too competitive in MP50 so am I out the Early Reg $35 if I drop? Apr 10, 2022

I'd hold out for now though because it is still very possible that one person gets in off the waitlist. I've processed a lot of refunds and I expect to have to do a few more in the coming weeks. As long as someone from the waitlist takes your spot you will get your refund for the entry fee.

Man, that’s brutal. Not so much the pre-reg $35 but that 3 spots were reserved to make an MP60 division and due to one player dropping, that originally reserved spot isn’t fill by the next MP60 on the waitlist.

This is something I hadn't thought about when i announced how I would handle the waitlist and unfortunately the withdrawal came too late for that spot to be filled automatically with the next person so rather than change what I had stated from the beginning I stuck to what I announced which was that the spots will be filled in order of the waitlist not specifically by division. Im sorry this negatively impacted you and your division and all I was trying to do was help the smaller divisions have a fighting chance to fill. Then I got grief from other divisions for how small they were. It seems no matter what decisions get made someone disagrees with them. I am sorry again but I needed to stand by what I published from the beginning.

It looks like I would get my sponsorship $ back if I drop by 4/21 which puts me in a bind. I can roll the dice that 12 players will drop and we’ll have a full division again, or drop before 4/21 and possibly screw the others.

Mike, It doesn’t sound very fair to renege on your decision to hold three spots “to allow for WI tour points and compete for the black disc” and now will only allow two. My suggestion is to discuss this scenario with other more experienced WI Tour TD’s and/or PDGA staff and get their opinion. Also, it doesn’t seem fair to Mr. Van Risen that it appears must withdraw by April 21st to get his sponsorship fee refunded.

Don V it does look like i have conflicting messages about the sponsorship being refundable in my own refund policy. That is my bad and because of that I will refund it to you if you drop. I was remembering my statement that sponsorships are non-refundable as stated in a different area of my policy. The reason for that is because I make decisions for the event based on sponsorship and also because someone else could have used that early registration spot up until the normal registration opens. Let me know what you want to do and if you desire, please give me a phone call to discuss 262 894 3404.

Don H. I am honoring what I posted from the beginning and am not reneging on anything. I held those spots until 20 days after registration opened at which point I removed the held spots and let people in off the waitlist in the order they signed up. As I told Don V I may never do that again but to be a man of my word I felt like it was the right thing to do rather than letting someone else jump the waitlist people just because they were in a division I had originally held spots for. One way or the other someone won't like the decision because it goes against what I said I would do. I did try to help the smaller divisions but unfortunately in this circumstance, it hurt your division when someone dropped after my published deadline leaving you with a partial division.

Tom Hausmann is along in MP55 and would stay there if you and Troy would like to move to MP55. That is his preferred division for the season so he doesnt want to miss out either. If you do not want to move to MP55 then he will likely move to MP50. Let me know if that is something you and Troy would be up for. Ill mention it to Troy also.

Mike we are trying to earn points in the MP60 division not the MP55. I don't see anything posted about only holding spots for a certain number of days for a division. All I see is your comment on March 9th that you were holding 3 spots for some of the divisions to allow them a chance to fill for the WI TOUR Points and black disc.. Can you point out the policy where it says you were only holding these spots for a limited time? You have 90 ams playing on Sunday and 50 more playing on Saturday! That is a total of 140 ams and only 40 pros. How is this fair?

It was in a facebook post on the WI Tour page. Zobel Open Update I will leave the "reserved spots" available until 8 PM on Tuesday 3/15. After that I will be letting people from other divisions into the event. I held these spots so that smaller divisions had a chance to compete for a black disc and tour points. If you are in these divisions and want those benefits I suggest you reach out to your competitors from your division and get them to sign up in the next 2 days. If these divisions do not fill I will allow you to play there if you want, but it wont be for points, a black disc, and there will not be a trophy for those partial divisions. You may also move to a different division on the same day that will be playing for those things if you so choose. We have these spots currently being held: Saturday 05/21 2 spots in MP55+ 2 spots in MA65+ Sunday 05/22 3 spots in FA2 3 spots in FA3 3 spots in MJ18 3 spots in MJ15 3 spots in MJ12

The above post was cut and pasted and came 2 days before the deadline but I had my original post dated on 2/19 that stated the same "ZOBEL OPEN - General registration opens tomorrow 02/20 at 8 PM. That is when the "Early Registration" Requirement will end allowing anyone to sign up at that time. I also instituted a few division caps holding spots for a few of the divisions (based on past tournament history, the early registrations that have come in, and a few requests) to allow them a chance to reach 3 players to be able to qualify as a WI TOUR Division and to play for a black disc. I will leave these reserved spots open for 1 month to allow them a chance to fill. After that month, if a division hasn't filled to 3, I will open up those spots to those on the waitlist and will let those in that division know their options at that point. SO IF YOU WANT TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A DIVISION AND ARE PLAYING FOR A BLACK DISC . . . ALERT YOUR FRIENDS/COMPETITORS AND GET THEM TO SIGN UP ASAP."

I set the amount of reserved spots for divisions based on my past history for this tournament as well as meeting the rules for the "pre-registration sponsorship" which only allowed up to 1/3 of a division to be awarded that way. That impacted this and is one of the reasons I may never do that AND reserve spots for specific divisions again. At least not in combination. This is a complicated situation and one that will cause some people to be upset no matter what I decide so I stuck to what I said from the start. I also used my past history for this event to determine how many spots to hold including the info from the pre-registration sponsorships. Here is the past history for the event since I took over: 2021 44/88 pros (28 Open, 13 Pro40 and 3 Pro 60). 2020 34/74 pros (23 Open, 7 Pro40, 1 Pro50, 3 Pro60), 2019 32/90 pros (22 Open, 1 Open Woman, 8 Pro40, 1 Pro60), 2018 20/60 pros (11 Open, 5 Pro40, 4 Pro50), and 2017 20/58 pros (15 Open, 5 Pro40). I'd say this year isn;t far from that ratio and also following the trend but was more impacted by speed of signing up . . . hence my reserving spots for those smaller divisions I am accustomed to hosting.

With all of this said to defend my stance, I am going to talk to some others about the situation. I may try to find a solution that doesnt impact anyone currently on the waitlist but allows for me to let in 1 more person possibly. Please understand I am not taking this stance currently for any other reason than letting someone jump the waitlist goes against what I said I would do from the start. I am trying to honor my word . . . i can understand why you might think I am going against it by not letting in a third person but the circumstance of someone withdrawing from one of those 3 person divisions after my deadline never occured to me and thus that is why we are in this situation. It has nothing to do with this being a pro division inf act it even happened on Sunday that someones rating increased so they moved up leaving only 2 people in that original division . . . so both of those people ended up dropping because they wouldn't have a full division. If you want to speak in more detail please feel free to call me 262 894 3404.

Your registration guidelines should have been posted on this official PDGA site where people are registering for this event. Not everybody uses Facebook.
