Russell, You are obviously new to tournaments in the area. Colorado events have been filling within hours for the last 7 years, this is nothing new, just shy of raffling off entry spots not much can be done to slow it down. There are events larger and double the price to this that have filled in less time. HPC 305 players filled in 1 hour, with a waitlist. RMAC 303 players filled in 1 hour. There is nearly no way to guarantee an event has spots the morning after registration opens. Have some patience as Josh's approach was to better meet the demands of the field. With two pools you can not just willy nilly fill 180 spots the split things up, he is trying to take a fair approach, you just have to give some time man.

I'm sorry, but MHDGC events have been filling super fast (a matter of minutes to hours) since around 2011. This is not a new phenomenon and not a slight at you personally. It is a testament to the quality of the event events. There are many more events now to choose from if you do not make it in to this one. Also wait lists tend to be move more than you think. When events fill fast people sign up in haste and so I would expect to see things move in a good direction. 144 people is a great sized event and way more than the traditional 90 player max that I used to see. This is a result of the sport growing like crazy, Keep your eyes on this site and the MHDGC social media to ensure you are on top of it for next time.
