Below is a copy of the email we sent to all registered players on July13, 2021:
Hello Foxwood Open Players,
This summer is flying by and the Foxwood Open is only 2 months away and we are starting to do the final planning for the tournament and the courses at Foxwood. The tournament is September 17th to 19th in case you have forgotten.
Courses:
We have two distinct eighteen hole layouts at Foxwood, you will all be playing Red once and White twice. Both have had some changes since last year's event, and we are hoping to have new tee areas complete for both courses before the Foxwood Open. We hope to have the new layouts mapped on Udisc soon so you can check them out during one of your practice rounds. Most of the changes are modest but there have been some new basket locations and different lines created on Red. Hopefully the wind is a bit more disc friendly this time.
Players:
We already have a very full field and we are hoping to accommodate as many players as possible. We are starting to balance the divisions so that there are full cards in each one. Last year some players ended up on cards from other divisions and that's hardly ideal. The decreased daylight time limits our ability to add too many more groups but we are trying. Some of my fellow veteran players may just have to get up a bit earlier on Saturday and Sunday. And some of the colour division players will be finishing a bit later in the day.
Players in the 'colour' divisions will have a very busy Saturday with two full rounds. Keep in mind the course is very disc golf cart friendly so bring them if you have. Foxwood also has great amenities to help make the day go well. Foxwood will have food and beverage services operating all weekend too. Post round refreshments on the patio will be available too.
USDGC Qualifier:
As the Foxwood Open is now the second last qualifier of 2021 before the USDGC we are starting to get some interest from touring pros that are keen to win a qualifying spot for the USDGC. We still have five up for grabs. Keep in mind that those players that won a qualifying spot in 2020 are still eligible to play in the 2021 USDGC as they were not able to travel south last fall.
Withdrawls:
If any of you are thinking of withdrawing from the Foxwood Open because the new date no longer works could you please consider doing so sooner than later. We have plenty of players on the waitlist that are keen to take your spots.
Sponsors and Fun:
We already have at least a dozen sponsors and supporters of this event. We hope to have some more exciting sponsorship news to announce soon.
There is some hope that as covid restrictions ease we may be able to add some of the traditional social parts back in, like a skills competition on the patio at Foxwood Friday evening and maybe even spectators.
Please check out the
https://foxwoodopen.com/ website for updates.
Volunteers:
We do need volunteers on all three days of the tournament to help with spotting and some logistical efforts. Volunteers will be permitted even if covid restrictions don't allow for spectators. Last year we had a great contingency of volunteers spotting all over the course and they were greatly appreciated. If you think you can help when not playing or know somebody who might be keen please reach out to us.
If you have any questions you are welcome to contact me or any member of the tournament team directly or post your questions on the Disc Golf Scene discussion.
Thanks,
