2019 Shore Acres Disc Golf Club League explained:
Tuesdays April 2nd through August 20th - 4pm to 6pm tee times
- Preseason: April 2nd through 23rd, no points will be awarded.
Pin placements:
Black Pins - 4/2 and 4/9
Yellow Pins - 4/16 and 4/23
- New players - you are expected to set your handicap in April (unless you have played as a guest in the past. All guest scores have been tracked for the past 4 years). You must play 3 rounds to establish a handicap before accumulating points.
- Regular season: April 30th through August 13th. 10 weeks yellow pins, 6 weeks black pins.
- Divisional Tournaments: June 4th (yellow) July 16th (black) 5 State Championship berths will be awarded on June 4th. Due to capacity constraints, guests are not allowed on divisional Tuesdays. Tournament rules apply for all divisionals (that includes a 2 stroke penalty for incorrect scores).
- High-Lo Doubles: August 20th.
- End-of-year party: August 27th.
- Scoring Awards: A player must have a minimum of 5 rounds in the yellow pin configuration and 3 rounds in the black pin configuration to qualify for year-end scoring awards (18 hole configurations are used for scoring, divisionals are not).
- Points: You accumulate points by scoring well against your handicap. We will drop your worst 1 round so if you miss a week, you won’t miss a beat. See bottom “Points Explained” for more information. Year-end awards for top point earners.
- Mandos: Hole #8 and hole #7 will feature Mandos. Your disc must pass to the right of the marked sign. Hole #16 Mando as in past years, your disc must land across the road to be considered in bounds. All missed Mandos proceed to the drop zone with a penalty stroke.
- Guests are welcome and for $5 they get entry into all CTPs along with a payout of $75 for an ace.
- Pre-season and regular season aces pay: $250 for members, $75 for paid guests (If more than 7 aces are hit, all aces will be prorated based on number of aces hit).
- League play currently begins at 3:30pm with assisted tee-times to help flow between 4:30 and 6pm. All players shall tee off on hole #1.
- Incorrect score will be docked 5 points during official league play. A wrong score will be like losing to 5 more people.
- PDGA League will be offered once again in 2019. Fee to enter is $15 paid to Zachary Vaughn. The PDGA season will run April 2nd through August 13th with a chance to accumulate 20 rated rounds and points. Only 1 division will be used in order to maximize player’s points.
POINTS EXPLAINED:
The handicap system will be in place again for 2019 which means you, even YOU can beat the Pros.
Each week of league, you will have an updated handicap provided as a membership privilege. At the close of each league week, we will send the scores to our mathematical elves who work for us behind the scenes. The elves will run some calculations and give each player a revised handicap each and every week. Your most recent handicap will be used for your adjusted score.
To start the season, each player that had a total of 3 league rounds or more from 2013 to 2018 will have a handicap for the first week they play. Those who are new for 2019 will have an official handicap after 3 weeks of play. It is preferred that new members set their handicap during April's preseason, though it is not required.
So let's go over a scenerio: Ben Flymo is a returning member from 2013. The elves have computed his handicap index as 6.2. During the first week of league, he shoots a 62. Ben finished 3rd grade so he knows that subtracting 6.2 from 62 will give him 55.8. Obviously, you can't have a decimal score, so you have to round. .5 and above rounds up and .4 and below rounds down. So...56 is his adjusted score for the week. The elves will run this simple math across all players that week and order the adjusted scores from lowest to highest. Let's say that 35 players played that week. The best adjusted score for the week gets 35 points, 1 point for each person they beat. Ben finished 10th, so he will obtain 25 points for the week.
We will drop the worst 1 point total from each player...so...if you miss a week, no harm done. If you play every week, it's an advantage to you as you will be able to accrue more points!
If you'd like to know more about how our elves compute your handicap, send a message to Zach Vaughn or find him during a league night. He's the boss of the elves and knows best how they compute all of the handicaps.
