About this league

2016 Shore Acres Disc Golf Club League explained:

-We still have 2016 Memberships available. Inquire here or at hole #1 on Tuesdays between 4:30pm and 6pm.

- Preseason – Every Tuesday in April, no points will be awarded.

- New players - you are expected to set your handicap in April (unless you have played as a guest in the past. All guest scores have been tracked for the past 2 years). You must play 3 rounds before accumulating points.

- Regular season – Every Tuesday from May 3rd through August 16th. 8 weeks yellow pins, 8 weeks black pins.

- Divisional tournaments – June 21st (yellow) August 16th (black) 6 State Championship berths will be awarded during the divisional on 6/21. Due to capacity constraints, guests are not allowed on divisional Tuesdays. Tournament rules apply for all divisionals (that includes a 2 stroke penalty for incorrect scores).

- High-Lo Doubles – August 23rd.

- End of year party – August 30th.

- Scoring awards – A player must have a minimum of 4 rounds in the yellow pin configuration and 4 rounds in the black pin configuration to qualify for year-end scoring awards.

- Points – You accumulate points by scoring well against your handicap. We will drop your worst 1 round so if you miss a week, you won’t miss a beat. See bottom – Points Explained – for more information. Year-end awards for top point earners.

- Mandos – New for 2016 – Hole #8 and hole #7 will feature Mandos. Your disc must pass to the right of the marked sign. Hole #16 Mando – as in past years, your disc must land across the road to be considered in bounds. All missed Mandos must re-tee with a penalty stroke.

- The log pile on #15 will be played as CASUAL RELIEF. If your disc lands within the painted circle around the pile, proceed immediately to the drop zone WITHOUT taking a stroke penalty.

-The cactus circles on #14 will be played as CASUAL RELIEF. Take relief outside the cactus on the line of play no closer to the hole WITHOUT a penalty stroke.

- Guests are welcome and for $5 they get entry into all CTPs along with a payout of $75 for an ace.

- Regular season aces pay: $250 for members, $75 for paid guests (a maximum of 6 aces will be paid out, more if guests ace).

- League play currently begins at 3:15pm with assisted tee-times to help flow between 4:30 and 6pm. All players shall tee off on hole #1.

- Any incorrect score will be docked 5 points during official league play. A wrong score will be like losing to 5 more people.

-Completed league scorecards should be placed in the black box on the announcement board near #1 tee.

POINTS EXPLAINED:

The handicap system will be in place again for 2016 which means you, even YOU can beat the Pros.

Each week of league, you will have an updated handicap provided as a membership privilege. At the close of each league week, we will send the scores to our mathematical elves who work for us behind the scenes. The elves will run some calculations and give each player a revised handicap each and every week. Your most recent handicap will be used for your adjusted score.

To start the season, each player that had a total of 3 league rounds or more in 2013 – 2015 will have a handicap for the first week they play. Those who are new for 2016 will have an official handicap after 3 weeks of play. It is preferred that new members set their handicap during April's preseason, though it is not required.

So let's go over a scenerio: Ben Flymo is a returning member from 2013. The elves have computed his handicap index as 6.2. During the first week of league, he shoots a 62. Ben finished 3rd grade so he knows that subtracting 6.2 from 62 will give him 55.8. Obviously, you can't have a decimal score, so you have to round. .5 and above rounds up and .4 and below rounds down. So...56 is his adjusted score for the week. The elves will run this simple math across all players that week and order the adjusted scores from lowest to highest. Let's say that 35 players played that week. The best adjusted score for the week gets 35 points, 1 point for each person they beat. Ben finished 10th, so he will obtain 25 points for the week.

We will drop the worst 1 point total from each player...so...if you miss a week, no harm done. If you play every week, it's an advantage to you as you will be able to accrue more points!

If you'd like to know more about how our elves compute your handicap, send a message to Zach Vaughn or find him during a league night. He's the boss of the elves and knows best how they compute all of the handicaps.
