The MiCPS Summer 2016 has wrapped up, the leaderboards have locked with the current data the leagues have posted and I wanted to announce or MiCPS 2016 Summer Disc Golf League Champion and provide some key info. I will provide a summary of the stats shortly but wanted to get this out without further delay.

With an amazing 83 rounds in the 16 weeks of the summer point series and amassing almost 200 points over everyone for a total of 904 points – Jay B is our MiCPS Summer 2016 Michigan State Disc Golf League Champion. Congrats Jay

With the Michigan State Disc Golf League Champion now determined the next big event, the biggest in the state, the home coming for many of us – the event that gathers the Michigan Disc Golf family together in Ludington over the Labor Day Holiday weekend for some great Disc Golf head to head competition and fun.

Where has the summer gone. Ok it's still warm and sunny but this is the last week of the DGLA Michigan Cooperative Point Series. The Final HLW for Double Points is this Saturday - the last day of the season at Willow Metro park. It will be a great time and several leagues are combining to make it extra maybe even Doublely special ;-)

24 Cha!ns is a group of highly dedicated Disc Golfers whom fear no weather, play year round at courses throughout lower Michigan.

Summer league is every Friday with a tee time of 6pm. Courses are decided by vote or counsel members discretion except for the first Friday of the month which will always be at Waterworks aka Pirates Bay in Ypsilanti. Pirate Bay rounds are also $5 Freddy rounds. Voting for courses will start as soon as a post is made and will end on Wednesday. Usually rounds are doubles but we will also play singles, ChaChi, ript, one disc wonder, and are always open to new games and format ideas. Tarzan & dirty dollars are frequent during the round.

Shenanigans is not only allowed but encouraged! There are only 2 rules, you cannot touch a player while in the motion of throwing and you cannot touch a disc in flight...with anything.

New this year, we will be offering a $10 bag tag that will put you in the running for a berth to states & for your registration to states paid for! Whom ever wins the point series for the summer will win the berth package. If a winning player already has a berth to states they will get the paid registration and the berth will go to the next player in line. The point series will end 3 weeks before states but we will continue to hold league until November when we switch back to Sundays.

This is by far more fun than any league out there! CHAAAAAAAAA!!!

The league will end in the fall. The winner of the league will get a trophy and award money. There is no extra charge to be eligible for the trophy and money.

This next section of stats I look at what does it take to be in the Top Ten based on all the average of the currently best 10 players:

I have been looking at these stats for 8 years now, multiple mathematical and psychological models and I have found the secrete. Now it may be too simple for some of you but it proves out every season..... - "Play Well Often". Ok some of you need more details I know - What does "Well" mean and how Often is Often?

Ok if your in the top 10 of the current 497 players across Michigan I will be airing out your dirty little stats for all to see, so they know how you did it so far and what they need to do to knock you out of the top ten spots on the DGLA MICPS leaderboard.

What does it take to make it in the top ten league players of the MiCPS 2016? Lets look deeper.....

So at week 7 with Two rounds a week you can have 14 counted rounds adding to your point total at this date and time (OK we are at the beginning of week 8 when I pulled these stats (Wednesday) so currently the max is 15 rounds for the over achievers. Get a job - I mean your living my dream ;-)

If more than 2 rounds are played in a week (Sunday - Saturday) the lower score rounds are "Dropped" helping you Point to Round ratio but also giving those who can only play once to twice a week a fighting chance.

To give you an example of how this works. Let's take the Player in the top 10 who has the least number of total rounds played.

#7 Christian Sersha & #10 Daniel J Lee - each with 11 rounds total played. Each played 3 rounds in one week so they have one dropped round each. If I look at #7 Christian Sersha his Pts per round ratio for Total rounds played is 29.72727273 for 11 rounds but since only 10 were counted, his Counted Pts per Round ratio is 32.7


Our Highest Counted Round Pts per Round Ratio in the top ten is: So with 13 rounds played, 5 dropped, 8 counted rounds and a Counted Rounds Pts per Round Ratio of a whopping 50.375 pts /rnd #4 Geoff Bennett. So on average Geoff is getting 50+pts every time he plays, which is 20 pts/rnd higher than the rest of the top ten, so why isn't he at the top of the leaderboard?
Well with players like Jerry "Chilly" Chilson 23 rounds, 14 counted, CRR (Counted Round ratio) of 29.42857143 , Phil "Puttimus Prime" Common 22 rounds, 14 counted, CRR 31.85714286, and Jay B 34 rounds, 15 counted, CRR 35 .....34 rounds - in 60 days and those are just the DGLA MiCPS League rounds. NICE! Play On Jay.

Yes - just not enough rounds played at participating leagues .

So "Play Often" you increase your max point potential
"Play Well" you get more points per round.


"Play Well Often" and you maximize your standing on the leaderboard. - Proven once again.

Now what else helps characterize & differentiate players?

Wins - How often did a player get Max points for the league they played.
Aces - Nice Shot! and Extra Points - Cha Ching! 25 points extra for hitting that Hole in One.
HLW - Got Double Points? How often did you increase your point earning potential by attending a Highlighted League of the Week for Double Points and Double the fun?

Play Well - Look at those wins - players in the top ten had a Win average of 3.8 wins with Jay B blowing the lid off this stat with 16 wins for his 34 rounds played Win/Rnd average of 0.470588. Geoff had a almost the same Win Average 0.461538 from 6 wins in 13 total rounds, just needed more rounds. Those pesky tournaments are getting in the way of leagues....... ;-)

Aces - Oh the thrill and excitement of the perfect throw or some awesome tree love - Hopefully a Fist Full of Dollars and 25 extra points. 5 of our Top Ten have Aces during any of there MiCPS League rounds this season, 4 with 1 ace each and Chilly with two to his name. - Nice Shots guys. Average Aces for the top ten is 0.6 - Man that seems to be what I get per round - 0.6 of an Ace and then it rolls 30 feet..... ;-0

HLW - Highlighted Leagues of the Weeks - Double Points - 6 of the top ten have attended 1 HLW so far. This ensured that they had the chance to fully maximize their highest point total possible, with the potential to separated them for those who did not make it to a HLW. Only 12 HLWs this season throughout the state with 10 still left - one tonight. Set the GPS for Iron Mountain. The more you compete in the higher your max point potential is. Make sure you check out the MiCPS Schedule and look for the Highlighted rounds with Double Points next to them. My current prediction is that Saturday July 30th (last day of the season) at Willow Metropark the top players will be in attendance for a battle and last Double Points of the season.

So I hope no complaints on the weather. Ok maybe a freak few minutes of some hail, or spiking high temps that makes you throw the switch from Heat to Cool on the HVAC but man are we lucky to be playing Michigan Disc Golf. Doubles league - 40 active players
$5.00 player fee each session
$1.00 ace pool
Ace Pool will start at $198. If more than one person has an ace the ace pool will be split.Only one ace pool per league date. We normally have CTP's as well and, continuing in 2016, we will have a separate CTP for novice/junior players. Random drawing of player pairings, although a novice player will not be paired with another novice player. 100% payout: $4 of each entry goes to winners' payout; and the remaining $1 goes to CTP for the following league date. Updated, 2016, scoring format for our league: a player receives 1 point for participation and 2 points for every doubles team he and his doubles partner finish ahead of--a "Cali" is equivalent to a doubles team. A player will also receive 10 additional points for every ace he scores during the round. If any player "does not finish" (DNF) for any reason other than illness/injury, has to go to work, or personal/family emergency then he will receive 0.5 points--not 1 point--for participation on that league day. Ok one last week of May play. Below is a summary of the next Highlighted Leagues of the Week.

Our deadlines have passed for adding new leagues, HLWs and DGLA Player level players, so we have 30 league state-wide where you can play and get points in the MiCPS. - What an Awesome Disc Golf State we live in. Thanks to all the League Admin who make these leagues available to all of us. Don't forget to thanks them and lend a hand if possible the best leagues always seem to have a lot of cooperation from the regular players. Greater things are achieved in a cooperative environment. Thanks to all the players who help out.

30 leagues and currently 483 players have played rounds in the MiCPS summer 2016 so far.

So many new players ask why is one of my rounds "Dropped" - to try and balance out those who can play several times in a week and those who struggle against schedules to get one or two rounds in we have a cap of your best Two rounds from Sunday to the following Saturday and the rest are dropped except Aces.

The leaderboard has also been updated with weekly and Monthly leaderboards. Taking a look at the first few weeks at the Number of Rounds and Points we see the player with the most rounds posted is Tim Gacioch "Jub Jub" with 4 in one week. That helped maximize his point total keeping his best two highest point rounds.

Top Player get their name of the Ypsi Dubs Holy Grail - Perpetual Growler trophy.

Top Three players get their name on the Ypsi Dubs Perpetual plague in the lodge at Rolling Hills.

$6 to play per round - Includes the standard CTPs (we add a CTP for every 12 players registered for a given round. Cash or prizes awarded.) Payout after each round.

Optional Ace Pool - $2.00 (Ace pool 50% payout)

Optional CASH CTPs, 100% & 50/50 - $2.00

Free Play option - We welcome all players, you can play for free. You are not eligible for payouts and you will be paired up with another Free player or Cali but we welcome you to come out and enjoy the round with friends.

May 8th 2016 Sunday - DGLA Player level registration cut-off

May 22nd 2016 Sunday - Deadline for adding new leagues to the Point Series.
Leagues can always run outside the MiCPS dates but MiCPS points will only accumulate for rounds played between these dates.

May 22nd 2016 Sunday - Deadline for League Admin to request Highlighted Leagues of the Week (HLW) on the comments page.

During the season each league can have a Highlighted Leagues of the Week (HLW) and players receive DOUBLE POINTS for that round. Some league do special things and some it's just a regular round with double points for the MiCPS. We try to highlight the league, course, format and details so players see what other leagues are doing throughout the state and maybe take the opportunity to travel and check out the league, the course, meet new players while getting Double points to Boast their total.

How do leagues request a HLW?

The league Admin must request the HLW to ensure the people who put in all the hard work week after week to ensure the local players have a league to play are aware and prepared for a few extra players. The league Admin post a comment under MiCPS indicating the date desired. The date must be at least TWO weeks out so other players have time to make plans. Last day to request a HLW is May 2nd. Any question league Admin can send Foz a message.

To see all currently planned HLW just look at the schedule and you will see the league round highlighted in Green and it indicates Double Points!

Our first Highlighted League of the Week (HLW) April 29th Double Points!!!

The DGLA: Michigan Cooperative Point Series - Summer 2016 7th Annual session is under-way.

Note the Leaderboard will be updated shortly with the correct point system and adding the DGLA Players along with the weekly and monthly leaderboards for extra Disc Golf Scene Bling - Cha Ching!

There will be some new leagues added through May 22nd which is the deadline to add leagues. Last year we had 64 participating leagues and 1158 players.

16 week Michigan State Wide Disc Golf League Point Series hosted by DGLA

Sunday April 10th 2016 - Saturday July 30th 2016

I'm sure we will beat last summers record participation for the 7th year in a row. Last year we had

The Disc Golf League Association (DGLA) is proud to bring you the 7th annual, Michigan Cooperative Point Series – Summer, (MiCPS-S) 2016 season.

The DGLA MiCPS brings leagues and players closer together for more fun, to help exchange ideas and grow the sport of Disc Golf. Through the use of Disc Golf Scene all the scores, pictures, videos and chat from all leagues and players come together, enabling all the players throughout the state to see what players are doing, what each league is up to and what is new at each of the courses. Growing the sport of Disc Golf together and coming together to crown the Michigan State Disc Golf League Summer Champion.

Earn points for every round you play in a participating leagues throughout Michigan.

Highlighted Leagues of the Week (HLW) participating leagues must request a HLW: League Admin of the league must request in the Comments section by May 22nd so no one is surprised and has plenty of time to make plans. The request must come from a League Admin listed on the League About page. Dates can range from May 1st - July 30th.
