Last night was the finale of the ’24-’25 Wednesday Glow Dubs session! There were 9 of us at Firefighters where the weather was great and we didn’t even need the glow stuff!
We played the round for $40, and since there weren’t any aces, we also played for 12 CTPs paying $10 each to clear off the ace pot.
Bry & JK somehow got teamed up again and took it down with a 43, clearing the field by 3 strokes. Nice round, fellas!
The $10 CTPs were super-fun and almost everybody got in on the action. It went like this:

The final league standings are, obviously, heavily weighted in favor of those who played the most, but congrats to the three who made the podium:

Silver / 2nd Place: James Kim
Bronze / 3rd Place: Drew Shornak
Also worth noting are the top three points earners per round. These results are certainly skewed a bit by the partner draw, but congrats to these guys for posting the most points per round played (max is 20):

The warm weather brought 15 souls out to Grizzly Oaks for week 19 this Wednesday; and we almost didn’t need the glow stuff. Thanks to everyone who came out!
Fanzi & Mike took the top spot and $50 with their hot round of 46; and second place went to JK and Tanaya who were only two strokes behind and earned $25 for their 48. Nice rounds, kids!
Nobody hit an ace, and the Abyss Ace Pool sits at $125.
Next week is the last round of the session over at Firefighters on 3/26/25; so, we’ll run things a little bit differently. Everyone who has played at least one of our league rounds prior to the 26th will be eligible to win the ace pool without paying in. There will be twelve, that’s right twelve, $10 cash CTP holes that will be paid from the ace pool in the event that nobody hits an ace. So, come on out to the little course in Troy for a chance to take home some end-of-session loot!
Thinking past next week, I’d like to keep this ball rolling. So, I plan to run a random draw doubles, Sunday evening spring session with rounds starting at 5pm and rotating through Bald, Stony, OU, Riverbends, FF, Star-Jaycee, and maybe Hawthorne once the redesign is finished. It’ll be called “The Sunday Nightcap”; so, look for it here in the Scene in the near future!

Hawthorne Park (or should I say Pontiac Oaks Park) continues to change; so, week 18 saw us playing a brand-new layout. I meant for us to play the layout that Jake and the Driftwood boys designed, but I screwed that up a little bit. For better or worse, we played the extra-large version of the new course since they pulled holes 1-3. It was 4-7, 8 long-long, 9-12, 13 left, 12 tee to 13 right, 14, 15 long tee to 16 (this was part of my screwup and was a real bruiser with all the no-mow OB), 17 short, 18, 17 long, 15, & 16. I put par at a 59 with a par 4 (11) and two par 5s (8 & 15/16). Good times!
The end result was a tie at 50 between the teams of Fanzi and Brandon M & me and JK. We split the pot four ways and each took home $13. Jennings drew the short straw and had to play cali on the long layout, but he put it closest on hole 12 to take the $10 cash CTP.
We’re at OU for the second to last round of the session next week. Hope to see you out there for week 19!

When I started this winter-time league, I remember thinking, “at least we won’t have to deal with rain in the winter”. How wrong I was! Last night was wet … like rained the entire round type of wet! JK and Bry didn’t notice though … they shot a 42 (12 down) to take home $40.
Fanzi earned himself $6 for his CTP on hole 9; and nobody carded an ace. After the reset, the Abyss Ace Pool is at a whopping $30.
We’ll play each of our three courses once more to wrap up the glow session, and we’ll have a lot more light after Sunday’s change to daylight saving time. The sun won’t set ‘til after 7:30 next Wednesday!
Week 18’s round is at Hawthorne where we’ll play the new layout since Oakland County pulled holes 1-3. It’ll be 4-12, 13 long/left, 12’s tee pad to 13’s short/right basket, 14, 15 long, 16, 17 short, 18, 17 long, and 15 short. Hope to see you out there!!

Ask and you shall receive! I asked to stop carrying around all that ace pool money, and Ryan obliged! Mr. Schmitz carded a one on hole 12 at Grizzly Oaks last night! Hole 12 was also the cash CTP hole ($7), so Ryan earned a cabbage roll of $692 for his evening’s work. Nice ace, man!!
Significantly less exciting was the 45 that won JK and me the $40 pot for the night.
We’re scheduled at Firefighters for week 17 on March 5th, but we’ll switch courses if the place is under water. Keep an eye out here on the Scene for any changes. Hope to see you out there to rebuild that ace pool next week!

After playing through single digit temps, I'm kinda surprised it was a less-than-impressive snow storm that kept people away; but it was just little 'ol me at Hawthorne last night. I guess nobody wanted to take my money this week ;).
I'm headed to CO for a week to play in their Rocky Mountain snow, so we're off until 2/26 when we'll see if we can put a card or two together over at Grizzly Oaks.

I’ve been looking for a good place to take my boy ice skating this winter; and I found it out at Firefighters this week! Ice, ice, ice! The course over in Troy was mostly underwater for week 14 … the solid kind. We made it through without any concussions, though; and I loved seeing all the creative falling techniques!
Two teams didn’t seem as bothered by the ridiculously slippery conditions and took home the cash. Fanzi & Bry took it down with a 48, and Brian K and Jon L were only a stroke behind at 49. Well done, considering the conditions!
Andrew F donated the Luna that Drew S nabbed for his CTP drive on beautiful #15; and he took home the $14 cash CTP on the skating rink that was the 8th green. Thanks Andrew! And congrats to both the Andrews!
Despite all of my scraping and salting, nobody rang one up, and the Abyss Ace Pool has climbed to $645! I don’t like carrying that much cash around … so somebody needs to dunk one already!
We’re at Hawthorne for week 15 next Wednesday (2/12), and then we’ll take a one-week travel break (the Rockies, baby!) before firing back up for week 16 on 2/26 at OU. Thanks for coming out, everybody!!

We had a tie at the top, yet again, with the teams of Anthony G & JK and Mike & Bry taking down the $60 pot with two 47’s. Nice rounds, kids!
I managed to nab the cash CTP on hole 12 for $9, and Neil is the proud new owner of a jar of my homemade pickles for the best drive on hole 5.
We heard some yells mid-round and thought that the ace pool might have been reset, but it turns out there weren’t any ones on the cards; and the Abyss Ace Pool is up to $565!

Low numbers are good in golf, right!? This week, we set TWO league records with low numbers … we had the lowest number of players this week … there were five of us … and we started the round at the lowest temperature so far … it was 10 degrees at tee time. Thanks to the five who showed the grit to play what ended up being a pretty long round this week … I hope y’all are thawed out by now!
We played all shorts except 8, 15, and 17, and Andrew F and I just barely kept it below par to take down the $25 pot with a 56.
Drew S got closest on hole 12 and earned himself a fin that he immediately donated back to the ace pool … thanks!! Drew also made the longest putt on 17 and took home the Aviar3 that Andrew F donated back to the league. Nice shootin’ Drew!
We’re at OU next week when it has to be warmer and where an ace will take home over $525! Hope to see you all out at Grizzly Oaks on the 29th!

Twelve of us braved the 20-degree freeze at Firefighters this week. Maybe it was the alure of winning over five bills for dunking one, but thanks to everyone who suited up for the weather!
Andrew F and Brian K ran away with it and cleared the field by 6 strokes with their 44. That scorching round earned them $40 … great shootin’, guys! Behind the hot round, there were three teams tied at 50: Drew S & Jon L, Daniel M & Fanzi, and me & JB. Respectable.
Andrew F also took home $11 for the cash CTP and his partner Brian K is giving Lily (a Buzz I donated) a new bag for getting the closest on hole 5. Dominance!
Nobody marked a 1 on their scorecard this week, and the Abyss Ace Pool has grown to $520! It’s supposed to be really chilly next week, but I’ll be out at Hawthorne on the 22nd no matter how cold it gets. Why not join me and try to take home the big bucks!?

Nine souls came out to Grizzly Oaks this week despite the bitter cold; thank you!! It was below 20 degrees at tee time, and 14 or so when the last card came in. There was a tie at the top again with the teams of Kelsey & Fanzi and Andrew & Drew shooting the hot round (50) and splitting the $45 payout … solid performance considering the weather!
Neil took home the $8 cash CTP for putting it closest on hole 3; and Drew nabbed an old-school Leopard 3 (thanks, Andrew!) for his drive to the island on hole 16. Well done, fellas!

The streak of double-digit numbers of players continues!! There were 10 of us out at Hawthorne for the last league round of 2024. Thanks for coming out for week 9!!
We played three, two-shot holes (8 short to long, 15 long, and 17 long), and the hot score was 52. We had a tie at the top again, and the teams of Jon & Andrew and Neil & Bry split the $50 pot. Nice rounds, guys!
I almost dunked it on hole 12 but was consoled by taking home the $8 cash CTP for my near miss. James put it closest on hole 16 earning him the donation CTP and what he reports will be the 50th Champ Firebird in his collection. Fun shots to watch!!
We’re off for the next two weeks for the Wednesday-landing holidays, and we’ll be at OU for week 10 in the new year. Hope to see you all out there at Grizzly Oaks on the 8th for the first round of 2025!

Despite the biting wind that accompanied temps in the low 30s and a pretty steady snow for a lot of the round, there were 14 of us out at Firefighters for week 8 … impressive turn out! Thanks to everyone who braved the weather!
The little course in Troy played tougher than it does on a warm, summer day, and 47 was the hot score. Bry and I chalked up one of the 7-down rounds to tie James and Mike G and split the $70 payout four ways. Well done, fellas!
Congrats to Fanzi who took home $13 from the cash CTP on hole 15 and to Drew S who grabbed a Tantrum from the donation CTP (thanks Andrew!) on hole 5.
Nobody carded an ace last night, and the pot is up to $399!
We’re at Hawthorne in 6 days for week 9, and then we’ll take a two-week break for the holidays before we resume in the new year at OU on January 8.

46 was hot this week, and the card of Andrew F & Ryan S and Drew & James turned in two of them. Nice round, guys!
James took home an Aviar for the merch CTP on hole 3; and Andrew J nabbed a sawbuck for the cash CTP on hole 5. Best drive of 11 ain't bad!
We're back at little 'ol Firefighters next week where the ace runs are aplenty ... the Abyss Ace Pool sits at $337.

James and Andrew F got paired up and kind of swept the thing. Their 47 beat the field by 3, James won the CTP throw off for $12 after a flag debacle, and Andrew got my homemade pickles for his park job on 15.
No aces at Hawthorne, though, and the pool is up to 3 bills!

Andrew F gets more props for nabbing the CTP on hole 2. $10 went his way for not ace-running the basket ;). Well done, Andrew! (and I hope you found your phone!)

Maybe it was the damp or the wind, but there were no aces at the little course in Troy; that brings the ace pool to $255.

Shout out to Brandon M for taking the CTP on hole 16 for a Discraft Heat and to JK for taking the overall league lead with his 2nd place finish this week!

Next week, we'll start a $1 cash CTP (I'm running out of homemade pickles and garage discs). So, All-In will be $11.

We're back to Firefighters next Wednesday ... maybe we'll see the first ace of the season. The Abyss Ace Pool is at $205!

Shout out to Brandon and James with the hot 46 ... even with long-to-long on hole 8 ... nice round fellas!

We'll be at OU (Grizzly Oaks) next week, and check-in will be near the fire pit next to the 1st tee. If you've never been to this course, you'll find us on the south side of the athletic complex on Pioneer Road.
