Hi, folks - again, no week 10 of league! Next league will be starting February 4.

Another note - if you haven't renewed your ADGA membership, the January grace period is ending - check to see if you're on the list here: https://www.discgolfscene.com/tournaments/2023_Alaska_Disc_Golf_Association_Dues. If you're not, it's going to be $11 per round. You can send me $30 (if you're renewing) or $40 if you're a new member.

Just to remind everyone, the week 10 of the league (aka next Saturday) is CANCELLED. February 4 will be Week 1 of the new league.

Related: I've had a lot of people contact me in the last few weeks of league telling me they can't make the round. First - thank you for letting me know, so we don't have to do last-minute card rearrangements.

Second, I don't normally do "credits" the way that, say, summer dubs does, but as long as you contact me before the round starts I'll definitely just have the money pay for a future round or refund you. If you paid but had to duck out, just remind me next time you want to sign up for a round. I'm not trying to make a practice of it but this league has been pretty chaotic in terms of the weather and other stuff.

I'm going to let Boyd or anyone else who has done some work comment below for even further updates, but at Davis Park as of yesterday, Blue tees 1-4 are pretty much good to go (1 and 4 might need a little remaining ice removed).

If you're thinking of helping to clear the remaining ones, yesterday I found an ice pick, a broom, and a shovel all useful: there was about 1-2 inches of snow, with some ice underneath, that had to be removed from the pads, and some of the surrounding paths had had snow blown into them. They'll probably need salt to get some of the ice loose, but don't use it if you don't have to, and return in a couple of hours to get the melted water off the pad. If you want to do some bonus work after the pads are all done, you could also work on expanding the areas behind the teepad for people to stand - I know I was a little lazy about making those for at least 7 and 8.

Assuming nothing horrible happens, we're playing Reds and Blues this week! It'll be the last week of the league, since week 10 is canceled for the doubles at Westchester. We will be back up with a fresh league starting February 4, though!

Other news: a non-disc golfer friend of mine found an Innova Adventure backpack on a bike trail last fall, full of discs with absolutely no markings or name on them. If you know someone who lost their bag or had it stolen, and for some reason doesn't mark their discs, have them get in touch with me and tell me a few of the stranger discs in the bag.

Jarod came in and squeaked out a one-stroke victory over Scott Groves in A pool. He was the only player to card just one bogey for the round, pairing it with 7 birdies for a 48. Frank Costales overcame a 5 on hole 9 (maybe he lost a disc too?) to shoot a blazing-hot 50 and take down B pool. Jeremy Lukas took down C pool.

No aces yet again - pot is up to $186! I know Killian came really close, hitting the band on 6 this week. Remember we're only paying out half at once, but that means that next week at Westchester an ace will probably be worth $100 or so!

Week 7 is going to be at Davis Park, and I'm hoping we can play both Reds and Blues, but it might be a game-time decision.

As a reminder, if you're a 2022 ADGA member, entry fee is still $8 rather than $11 through January, which is a grace period. But renew now! You can go to the tournament-style page that's set up and sign up there (use the discount code for the $30 renewal rate rather than $40), OR you can send me your renewal fee and I'll pass it along to ADGA.

If you're NOT a 2022 ADGA member, you should sign up for 2023! It's $40, and like above you can do it through the tournament page, OR by sending me the money with your weekly entry fee. We run roughly 40 weeks of singles leagues each year, and probably more than 40 weeks of doubles leagues. If you play in all ~85, you can save over $200 by joining! How can you afford NOT to?

Five brave souls came out to play the Reds at Davis twice this past week! It was 3 degrees, but the 3 feet of snow you plunged into when you went off the trails insulated your feet pretty well. JK, no it didn't.

Beckner grabbed the only pool with more than one competitor, with a 51, grabbing the same number of birdies as Boyd and I, but only taking two bogies. Speaking of Boyd, he birdied 3 both times, one on an obstructed 80-foot toss-in, leaning out from a newly downed tree. Hole 9 Red is playing as a par-4 basically, because of the downed tree in the fairway.

Depending on reports from the doubles crew tonight, we'll probably hold Week 6 at Westchester, so that we have a chance to dig out and de-ice the Davis pads for week 7. Slow progress is being made in terms of trampling down the fairways!

Oh, and we just had a baby ice storm so ALL of the pads will probably need to be scraped or salted. Besides that, though, everything is perfect! Not sure how Westchester is doing but assuming it's not dug out yet, Davis (Reds and Blues) is the most likely place for week 6.

Once the wind stops, I'm hoping to finish off the Blues so we have a full 18 to play for Week 6 (I have no idea how the Goon is right now). But tomorrow is going to be just the Reds, twice. Get your money in!

Speaking of shoveling, I see we have all the Davis Reds cleared! Thanks to Boyd, and Dan Allen, and Jeremy Lukas and two other people who AREN'T EVEN LEAGUE MEMBERS. Hope you guys charged them $3 extra for the privilege.

So this means disc golf is ON for Saturday! We also have 1, 2, and 4 from the Blues done, and I think I'll have the chance to knock a few more out this week. I'll even leave 3 and 9, the closest two, until the end, so folks can pick those off.

I've heard that glow dubs are happening at Davis this week, so that might help clear at least the Reds. Thus, as of now, the plan is to do a special Reds 2X layout for this week. But things may change!

I'm sure the pads could use a good sweep if you're feeling sprightly between now and then, and we're going to be making slow progress on the Davis pads, too, so hopefully they'll be ready in time for Week 4. Anything helps!

I did four of the pads at Davis yesterday (they'll have to be swept off again but the bulk of the snow is gone), and I'm tapped out after also having to shovel my Subie out of the snow 4X on the way back home yesterday. I'll be monitoring how much the other volunteers are able to get done today and tomorrow, but depending on that, we might be at Westchester Lagoon on Saturday. Keep watching this space for updates! Also volunteer to shovel a pad out! The feeling of satisfaction is immense!

Beautiful day out at Westchester; 25 folks came out to play! Teepads were B-; if I could reiterate how much it makes me cringe when people walk across them when they're not throwing - please limit the snow that gets tracked onto them to the bare minimum necessary to take your turn!

Robinson Culver absolutely crushed it, with a 2 on every hole at least once, and got 1, 6, and 7 both times for a 42, "only" 1007-rated - I predict that will increase over the course of the league. Clint came in a distant second with a 45.

Frank Costales took down B Pool with a bogey-free 47, snagging 1, 2, and 7 both times through. David Sramek came up one shot short for second, also keeping his card bogey-free.

Jeremy Lukas got revenge on Tyler for the C-pool crown this week.

I'm going to be out for the next two weekends, but I'll still be able to run the leagues - I'll try to get out after work on Wednesday to do some shoveling, and in the meantime, PLEASE don't play on the pads at Davis (or Westchester for that matter) unless they've been shoveled off.

I haven't seen the tees at Westchester in about 7 months, so I have no idea how they are, but I'm hoping they can be in good shape for Saturday. Looks like not too much snow is coming, and it's going to be cold, so if folks can get out there and do one or two pads each, that would be great.

Remember, the goal is to keep them nice and dry so if there's ice glued onto them, salt is ok, but if they're already clean, don't put any unnecessary salt down.

Murphy Dykstra took down A Pool with a 49, edging out Morgan Leeds by one stroke. He and Morgan were the only two to pick up the birdie on Blue 5, well done!

Alex Strawn picked up B Pool with a 54, getting Mike Chung by one.

Tyler Pohler picked up the two-person C Pool with a 64.

Interesting stats from round 1 at Davis - even though our two par-4s are kind of "soft", they averaged almost exactly 4. Turns out hole 7 Blue is just about as tough as 5 and 6 Blue, too!

We had a good enough turnout that now aces will be paying out more than $50 - half of the ace pot! Next week is Westchester, so maybe we'll pay one out!

Hi, folks - obviously if you're a 2022 ADGA member, you'll get the reduced $8 entry fee for this league, and we usually do a grace period into January for 2022 members. But if you're NOT a member, and you join now, you can get the reduced fee for this league, and all of the 2023 benefits. This includes probably about 40 weeks of singles leagues that I run, plus a whole winter of glow dubs and a whole summer of doubles at Kincaid Park. It's $40 the first year, then $30 to renew in future years.

If you want to join ADGA, or if you want to renew, you can always send me your renewal fee the same way you pay for leagues, Venmo or Paypal. We have a fake "tournament" on here that shows the list of members (I think you can also sign up directly there).
