To be sure, I had pretty high expectations going in to it. Though it was well maintained and well designed, I thought it was lackluster. It is an awesome home course, but, when I think of the best course in Michigan and the 6th best in the world, I think I am right to expect some difficulty and professionalism. Something like tee signs would be a good start. I might put a place like Brewer Park, Toboggan, or Bear's Den above it for sure. I think that is deserves a top 10 in MI...maybe even top 5...but not more.

I visited Flip City on vacation and it was amazing!! Elevation changes, a very tall elevated basket on a hill, a hanging basket, and beautiful scenery everywhere. For me it was my first time playing on a well kept course and it was nice to see the variety of challenges that each hole gave. I wish this was my home course because I would be out there everyday!

This has to be one of the best courses in the state. I did not shoot it particularly well on my first time through, but that doesn’t take away from how great the course is laid out. If you’d like to long toss, you will have many opportunities to pull out the big guns, and accurate putting is a must! It is helpful to have a course map as many baskets are hidden from the tee pads, but the flow is fairly natural and decently marked especially if you are adding the six holes in the middle to shoot 24 instead of 18 (totally worth it). It is a private course and there is a five dollar fee to pay for all-day play, and you would be hard-pressed to spend five dollars in a better way. When we played, the holes were manicured, wide fairways were cut in the tall grass, clearly a lot of work has been done to make it very playable.

By far the single most intriguing, beautiful and addictive course I've had the privilege of playing. With the combinations of how well it's maintained, the elevation changes, hazards, hidden holes with rocks as guides designed to help you approach the baskets, the coolest chill spots, immaculate landscaping that includes rock piles (many stacked higher then I am tall and are seen, not only on basically every hole, but even between them as well) that are so incredible they can be considered as sculptures as far as i'm concerned, and, of course, the obvious long hours, very clever thought process and the noticeable time plus hard work put into it's 24 hole design, Flip City has everything you could want to challenge and entertain you. It impressively proves why it should be #1 every time you play it. Even more impressive is that this is all done by only ONE man!! WHAT?!?! UNBELIEVABLE!!!! You sir are true to this game and why we play. This is not just a course, as i'm sure so many would agree, it's 110% a work of art that is sure to impress any disc golfer there is. Period. This course can't, and won't, be forgotten by it's guests. From the newest beginner to the most advanced professional, please experience this for yourself if you get the chance. You will love seeing all the reasons this place is #1 in the U.S. with your own eyes. The type who are more then happy to show a lost group which direction to go for hole 7s pad and do it with a smile saying "have a great game, good luck" and then jump in some brush 2 holes later without thinking about it to help a stranger find their lost sentimental disc, cuz hell, we've been there as well. Special thanks to the man behind this course. I played Flip City on my birthday my first time there after I drove 2+ hours. You were very friendly as most are in this sport, told me not to pay since I drove so far and wished me a happy birthday. I added $20 as well as my girlfriend and that was well worth your hard, much appreciated work any day!! I have made the trip many times since and was still worth adding extra! Have some cool pics I'm posting as well including a sweet looking snake wrapped around a stump that had a rock on it. Got pics of him around the stump/rock and one pic looked like he was coiled up ready to bite my disc that landed right by him. Lots of elevation changes provide some great shots and precarious basket placements can wreak havoc on your putting/approach game. The scenery is wonderful and the rock formations scattered about give the course a very unique feel. Definitely worth a day trip if you get an opportunity to go SEIZE IT!

However, I just wanted to address the form in which Bill McKenzie(owner) has kept the course in this summer. He's been hard at work cleaning up the rough and with countless hours of back-breaking work which I've witnessed often as a local, it's really paying off. Oh, and if you lost a disc, he found a bunch. So stop in check it out, and play a round. After all he does all this for you guys. Happy discing.

Flip City? Where do I begin? First does it live up to its hype? For the most part yes a resounding YES! A private course run by a man who is dedicated to the sport. Beautifully landscaped and thoughtfully laid out. Cool little stone markers to show you the way. Many holes with blind baskets have some kind of stone marker that shows you the way to the basket. Interesting variety of shots and use of terrain, Flip City really does have it all!

But could it be better? Yes. I am a low level 900 player. I threw a 71 (-1) from the "Pro" tees. I would think a decent pro would be throwing in the low 60's and probably high 50's. I thought I had a birdie opportunity on the vast majority of the holes. Of course I am not a Pro so I missed many, but I made quite a few as well. I assume that when this course was designed, that was the norm, but I have played other courses where from the Pro Tee I am happy with a 5 on many. The game has been upped in Disc Golf.

But difficulty aside, Flip City is one of the nicest if not the nicest Disc Golf course that I have played to date and will certainly play there any time I am in the area and so should you!

The course borders old design and new design with a mostly deuce or die challenge. The 3 par 4's are refreshing (#2, #2A, #16) throwing in a contrast to the other 21 rather approachable holes. The short of it: a fantasy land. Flat out. With a hike through a landscape that is constantly changing, Flip City offers all who visit a legit adventure. From giant bombs to s-curve tunnels, baskets on hills, ridges, valleys, and hill tops, the shot variety is phenomenal. Nice touches like channels through the rough, huts and tables in key cross-points, and amazing character by way of cool rock sculptures, visitor graffiti, and even a bell on 17. It is so worth the visit!

The long of it: I pulled up after a cold night (we camped, temps hit 30 degrees! I was on an air mattress to boot) and an early morning spent breaking down camp and a visit to Leviathan. Sore, tired, but eager to experience the legend that is Flip. Rated a top 5 course by popular opinion from Portland to Rock Hill, I expected the best I had seen in my 40 or so course visits. You come in the property via a driveway. This following a very twisty route through rural roads. You drive past a garage, a few odds n ends, and to a lot. Here you will see a house with a few cars. "Is this right?," I recall myself thinking. A 90 degree turn had me facing a mail box and a tee pad. Well, we have arrived.

The first couple holes literally cross in front of the founders home. BTW, this man is a machine and is owed a great debt of gratitude. He pretty much busts butt on it himself and has for many years, along with help from local crews. Great love in the west side of Michigan disc golf. I digress. Eventually a few holes in you come to the edge f the yard. A cool twisting shot along a tree line. A small bomber back towards the house. Then up the side of a hill and next to a nicely terraced elevation shot. At this point my friend and I had played i sleet the first 8 or 9 holes. He was somewhat miserable. I was just getting warmed up. Then it happened. The sleet stopped, the sun broke, the clouds moved out. It was awesome!

The middle part of Flip plays over and through a hillside, with some of the wackiest pin placements you will ever see. The letter holes mark are a mixture of amazing tree shots through a literal grove. Mighty bomb shots down rolling valleys start to squeeze the energy out of you. By the time you hit 17 you are exhausted.

Well, I was. 2 days and 4 courses will do that. But Flip is a big big place. Despite all its charm and cool signage that navigate you perfectly, and despite all the well placed rest areas, Flip is nearly 7500 feet of holy wow up and down and arduous walking. I don't mean this as a knock at all. But for me, coming from a lot of flat or small elevation SE Mich courses meant that Flip was challenging! The terrain is almost all well worn and fairly safe conditions wise. But be ready. Wear some legit hikers or boots. Bring extra socks. Sunscreen would be useful, and smart on a sunny day, but there were a ton of shade areas. And now back to the story...

As I stepped on to the pad for 17, 2 holes left, a few hours of epicness behind me, a slight tinge of happiness to be nearly done washed over me. But you are surrounded by giant pines. The basket sits just over the ridge line of a seemingly 100 foot high hill. I don't recall the actual height, but I know I threw a Buzzz from the Am tees, so it wasn't massive. But the view. Oh man, the view is MASSIVE. I felt so immersed and happy at that moment that instantly I knew I had found my favorite hole in all of disc golf. I recorded myself walking to the top of the spine, peering upwards towards the sky. I think I shanked my putt and took a 3, or maybe not. I don't care. The hole was just a perfect crescendo. You ring a bell after to let those on the other side of the hill you are clear and on to 18. Flip finishes with a cool shot down a hillside, past the house, and right up to the garage. I couldn't help but grin from ear to ear as I snagged my putt out of the basket and began to pack up and head to the lot which was maybe 50 ft away.

During certain times of the year I know that you can camp here with permission. What a concept. This course is as good as any hike at a big park I have ever had. But in between these great trails are some of the best disc golf holes on earth. Bring some buddies, bring people you love, bring your quest for epic a ventures and unrivaled disc golfing. Donate MORE THAN $1, as suggested on the lock box near tee 1. Shake hands with the locals that support it, especially the man who worked while we walked to our car to head out. Flip City. Mushroom rock statues. Sheds. Huts. Chimes. Baskets. Perfection.

I can't wait to go again.

You can tell this is amazing course just by the variety of players that come from all over just for this course. Definitely a staple of the "Disc Golf Coast". The elevation changes, fairways, rock formations, pristine upkeep and overall difficulty of the course is just awesome.

It was an amazing course with everything you could ask for. Wooded holes, open holes, long holes, and short holes. Great setup! Only negative was that the outhouse was in poor condition (more a problem of the golfers not being respectful of others). The course was in amazing condition!

Love this course. I'm geeked about any time I get to play at it, and it has something for everyone with all of the alternate tees. A must play course if you live anywhere in Michigan, with an amazing variety of elevations.

This course is one of the best and most beautiful courses I have played. It is very challenging. If you have only been playing disc golf for a few years don't expect to par this course. There is a variety of hole types and a bunch of beautiful scenery. There is a great mix of hole types that range in distance from long to extremely long. One hole is 670 feet!!! There is a donation box at hole #1. Make sure you deposit at least $1.00 for 18 holes,more if you like. This is a must play course if you love the sport of disc golf!!

Great all around course. I think I threw every disc in my bag and just about every type of shot at some point. There are several blind shots that are tough to find if you havent played there before. Putting is dangerous here. Very few of the baskets are in a level area. If you are too aggressive around the basket you can end up in big trouble.

Flip City is definitely no walk in the park and the hills will have you ready for a break after every few holes, but the scenery and just how well kept the course is will easily make you want to keep on playing. Flip is definitely worth any drive, mine was only about 2 1/2 hours, but i would have easily drove three times that. This is a MUST PLAY.

Bill lets you spend the night on his land for 10 bucks, which is pretty sweet. He really seems like a pretty cool guy. It never was that busy because the 24 holes is pretty spread out. Great elevation changes and has greens that will make you pull your hair out. The rock formations were pretty amazing! This course almost has the feel of a real golf course, due to bills constant upkeep on the course.

Just played Flip City for the third or fourth time as part of the 2012 Michigan State Championships. As always, it kicked my arse and I was very impressed. Beautiful scenery, the biggest elevation changes I have ever seen on a course, and Bill McKenzie really takes care of it. Love the rock piles, the rounded cement tee pads with the fould line, and all of the pavillions and benches. Best course I have ever played.

Exit 140 draws you out of the groove in the pine and hardwood forest that is highway 31 north of Muskegon, Michigan. You look out onto a terrain shaped by the last ice age and a few determined farmers. Untouched by the grower's machines, Flip City adds a few pads and baskets to the trees and plants that occupy this gift from a receding glacier. People who play here offer compensation for their grinding feet by erecting awkward columns from the rock-till exposed by recent rains or gathered by some past thrower who knew nothing of champion or esp plastic. Play at Flip City is both challenging as a sport and in harmony with the land. (Note: First in the order of competitive sports that disturb nature the least is Stone Skipping. Last? Pro-football)

Very nice coarse! It has so many fun elements. It is one of the best places I have played. That's for sure! Everyone said it was better then Hickory Hills in Traverse City, MI. I don't think it is. I think is a awesome coarse, that's for sure! But I love my home coarse! Please pay your 1$ for your round. This place is very well maintained and there is a lot of love put into it. So please show your respect. It's on a man's private property and you are graciously allowed to play there. Don't be a scum bag!!!

Bill put alot of hard work into it dnt get me wrong, but to me it wasn't the best course I played. I know its not his fault but the leaves in the woods, kinda of scared me, did not know if theres was holes I would fall into and so on. but again I enjoyed the course. thanks bill for having a discgolf course.

This course is amazingly well kept up, it compares to those in KY that I have played. I would have to say though I think that it is a little overrated. Great course, loved the land but I don't see what gives it the #1 in Michigan. Obviously there are a lot of people that haven't played Bluegill yet, and they probably should.

A variety of shots, plenty of elevation, rock formation obstacles..........just a prime example of perfection at a discgolf course. If you want a good pitch to your local city for installing a course, show them pictures of this place. I could go on and on, just get in your car and make the drive. Do it.

Simply put - the best disc golf course that I have ever graced. Amazing that Bill can keep this place in such immaculate condition with the vastness of the course. Custom cement poured pads, well kept fairways and baskets, 24 holes, brooms on nearly each pad, paths in fairways and rough for ease of disc searches, the list goes on and on. Elevation changes, mature trees, rock formations, private ownership, and an extremly loyal group of flip city players are just a few of the things that makes this place really really special. It has been worth the drive every single time.....please show the course and owner the utmost respect in donations and etique and flip city will reward you in kind ...birdies!

The "Field of Dreams"! This course is absolutely beautiful. I can't look at a single hole out there and recommend a better layout. A LOT of diversity in the type of throws you will make, this course challenges me every time. Right when I think I'm going to nail my best out there I will get into some trouble and find myself buckling down more on the next round. I know the big-armed pro's don't like to see these high ratings because there are a lot of holes you can do huge heizers and basically "skip" the intended route. For those players that can't throw a giant heizer over 80' trees, 400' out, this course will challenge you and reward you. A hole you double-boged on one round you'll hit the line for the second round and find yourself at a birdie. There is so much "flavor" on top of the great layout; Cool rock piles, some random farm implements, ceramic frogs hidden about. . . cool stuff. Sure it's a bit far afield but worth the drive, play all day and get 96 holes in and you'll be feeling it the next day but happy you did. Bill does an amazing job mowing and upkeeping the course, it says $1 a round but if you donate more rest assured the money definitely goes right back into the course.

What can one say about flip city that has not already been said by anyone who has played it... it is hands down the best. Quality tee pads, severe elevation changes, a wide variety of shots, well placed pins and it is very aesthetically pleasing. Bill maintains the course beautifully and the location keeps the crowd down. I have never been on this course and thought that something needs to be changed. We are so lucky to have this course in our state and i wish i could play it more.
