Overall, this course is one of way too many open and easy courses put onto possibly the worst piece of land that you could put a disc golf course. In the late spring and through most of the summer, the grass and weeds are ridiculous, especially when there has been extra precipitation. The entire course is wide open except for some bushes surrounding the baskets on holes 2, 9, and 11 and bushes to the right on 15. I play this course a lot because it is the closest to where I live. I always leave this course with seeds stuck in my socks from the grasses and weeds. It is so wide open here that usually the only obstacle is the wind. The openness of the course makes it bad practice for tighter more difficult courses. I almost always shoot under par at Matney but when I went to Bailey DGC and Beaver Ranch I was around 10 over. The ground on many of the holes is pure rock, so your discs will get ruined when they fade into the rocks. The tee pads here are dirt and many are uneven and are eroding from people's foot holes and the weather. I usually throw from beside the tee pads because I always slip on the dirt tee pads. Also the distances posted by the tee pads are all wrong and some are way off. I put in the real distances that I measured in Google Earth in the hole info on this website. The reason for most of these problems is just the fact that this course was put on the wrong piece of land for a disc golf course, as is the case for a lot of other courses. Next time put the course on a worthy piece of land.
Despite the bad choice of location, they did the best they could with what they had. They made good use of the only trees on the course on hole 2 so that it isn't wide open. Power line poles are used as obstacles on holes 3, 5 and 7. The bushes on holes 9, 11, and 15 add some difficulty. Also they mixed up the distances well throughout the course with some very short holes, mid-range holes, long holes and very long holes. The baskets are also good quality Innova DISCatcher baskets. Another bonus is that there is a turf field close to the first hole and I always warm up there.
