Course Description:
- Mostly Open, Some Wooded
- Scorable

Overall Impression:
This is a great course for both beginners and more advanced players. The course hosts a variety of both longer open holes and shorter wooded holes. The course is scorable overall, with a few tough holes. The course plays through the park and has some side walks throughout the course which add extra OB to increase the difficulty if you choose to play that way.

Rating Grade: B
This is a good solid course that doesn't really have many flaws, but doesn't live up to some of my expectations of a course I think should receive a higher score. The longer holes are relatively easier, having little barrier or OB to contend with unless you shank left or right or land on the skinny OB sidewalk. There is also a pad shared between two holes (Holes #8 and #17) which are marked backwards on the tee sign. The wooded holes are also a little shorter than what I wish they were since the park uses so much space for the open big holes (mostly on the front 9 holes of the course). Some added OB for tournaments makes the course play as a higher score than this, but as is casually is a solid provided round of golf.

This course has baskets that are iffy in my opinion but they catch fairly well. All concrete pads and holes 8 and 17 share a trapezoid shaped teeing area. OB on 12 holes being water, walkways, and roads. ALWAYS mowed. Great grass here! The course being on a bowl shaped property makes for interesting tee and pin locations bringing wind into the picture almost at all times. .

Hole 1 probably needs to be a Par 4. Even on a none windy day it would be difficult to cover that much land in 3 throws. The course starts out with some pretty long open shots then goes into some wooded area shots. Fun course to play. Suggest going later in the evening when the wind isnt gusting. The signage could be better but I believe that is because of vandalism. If you are playing the course for the 1st time it can be a little bit confusion of a layout but after playing it once it is no problem. #5 hole doesnt have a tee box per say. It is just some spray paint at the end of a drive way. Then after hole 8 (right) and 17(left) you gotta cross over to 9 and 18. Nine is on the 1st left, 18 is up a few more feet.

I am beginning disc golfer one year into playing this sport. Begg Park is what I consider my "home"course as I play this one most of the time. This bowl-shaped 18 basket single cement teepad par 54 disc golf course located in Springfield,Michigan that also shares the property with a farmers market, storage garages,and a hot dog restaurant. I put this course into the intermediate division along with Irving Park. The course caters to all levels of disc golfers is beginner friendly and intermediates and professionals would like the challenge this course presents. The grass is mowed most of the time and the concrete teepads are in excellent shape. Footage distances range from the shortest hole, hole #14 at 189 feet to the longest Hole #1 at 657 feet. All holes are par three. This course has a port-a-john which is only available in the warm months into the fall. I think it is taken out starting in december. This course also has a practice basket located to the right of hole one fairway next to the playground. This course similar to Irvning park is a variety course as it features open field fairways, wooded fairways, and fairways next to water. The creek(spring brook) that runs the entire length of this park is not very deep so it is not advisable to carry a floating disc, if you do put a floating disc into the water here the current will take it away. The current is not very fast put the creek goes under dickman road and once it is under that bridge you might as well consider it lost. Hole number three is the signature hole on this course nicknamed the "Island Hole" as the basket sits on a strip of land that the creek divides as the creek splits two ways. I can be very difficult to keep your disc on land and I have only done it a very few times. This course currently does not have a sponsor to it so a few of the teesigns have been taken down. Things to be wary of here are non-disc golfers, some of the kids who live in the apartment complex that is right next to the course like to play on the course and will get in your way from time to time. So it is advisable to look ahead or have a spotter with you to assist you with that. Also trash and empty bottles can pile up from time to time at the teepads. So it would be nice for you to leave with what you brought in. Also there are places where the bushes/trees can be thick and if your not too careful or throw a bad shot you can lose a disc in the bushes and once the disc is in the there it can be very difficult to find them. This is the course I started playing disc golf on and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to learn how to play disc golf. A few things that would make this course better is placing amateur pads on holes #one and two the two longest holes on the course. Also, benches to sit on on a few of the holes would be nice. There are benches and picnic tables along the park already but a few more benches on some of the holes would be great. I like the fact you are getting the longest holes on the course out of the way early rather than having them either in the middle or at the end of the course. The lines you will have to throw your disc are not to incredibly crazy here and trees come into play on a pretty much all of the open field holes. The wooden fairways are not too incredibly difficult either. The chains on the baskets are getting old and rusty and needed replacing but they catch really well. Like previously mentioned the course needs sponsorship so they can make improvements to the course, not that it needs a whole lot but a course that has teesigns are always the best. The teesigns that are still in place are well descriptive showing the hole #,par info, and a layout and direction of the teepad to basket. When you turn off of Dickman road onto military road Begg park is the first pull-off to the right and you will see hole #1 as you pull into the parking lot. Tournaments are held from time to time here as well. If you are a battle creek resident or your close by or simply pasing through then make a stop to begg park you will be glad you did.

The course layout is pretty straightforward, the tees are concrete with a shared tee at one point. The holes are aligned in an odd but interesting fashion where the make great use of the bowl shaped layout, however through the course of play this leads to delays while waiting for individuals to cross the fairway as they are playing the other holes. The grounds are maintained but the people who frequent the course often litter and tag the signage. Challenging course and a good way to mix things, up careful on a windy day.
