The 3rd Annual Montiel Ace Race, sponsored by the San Diego Aces Disc Golf Club and Team Rizbee Productions has been scheduled for Sunday, September 12th. The event will run from 10am to 4pm. There will be no scheduled tee times - players simply need to play 36 holes of tee shots only at their own pace between 10 and 4.

$25 entry fee gets you two new prototype Discraft discs, a full-color Ultra-mini and a Discraft Ace Race hat - a $55 value in all!!! The player who ends the day with the most aces wins a new golf bag filled with Discraft golf discs. Ask Mike Allee, last year's winner, if he thinks the Ace Race is a great event!

Proceeds from the Ace Race will go towards the San Diego Aces Course Development Fund. The Course Development Fund has helped pay for the new courses at Kit Carson Park and Cal State San Marcos. Help support disc golf in San Diego County by playing in the Ace Race.

I saw the player's pack items and 1st place trophies last night, and they are great! Also, keep in mind that the Aces will be raffling off a DGA Mach III Portable Pole Hole at the awards ceremony following the tournament, so that's another great reason to come out.

Montiel DGC will be closed for casual play on Saturday, Feb 13 from 7am to 4:30pm to accomodate the 3rd Annual San Marcos Ice Bowl. Since the Ice Bowl will have a field of 54 players (6 per hole) and some players will be using mulligans, there won't be room on the course for non-tournament playing groups.

Over the next several weeks I'll be trying out a new twist to the tee for hole #9: There will be a mandatory added, so that tee shots must go to the left of the wooden power pole that is 20-30 feet in front of the concrete tee pad. Missing the manadtory will result in a re-throw with a one stroke penalty. Miss the mando and you're teeing off throwing three.

Why? Because the City has been receiving complaints from the homeowner at the corner of montiel Rd. and St. Paul St. Too many discs have been going into his back yard, too many people knocking on his door and too many people climbing over his fence. Too many complaints from neighbors = no more Montiel Disc Golf Course...simple as that.

Start practicing the new shot, and lefties and sidearm throwers...you're welcome.

On Saturday morning, I want us to caravan down to Morley from Montiel. Ideally, we should leave before 7 o'clock.

Hello everybody,
The first qualifier for the North County team will be this weekend on Saturday after doubles. We're going to play 18 holes (9 short, 9 long). Come out and play your best so you have a shot in competing in the North vs. South San Diego County Team Tournament.
I won't be able to make it out to Montiel on Sunday. So if anyone would like to help me out and step up to run another qualifier on Sunday, that would be aawesome.

Right in the PDGA Rules it says straight up that butts are litter. We should add that bottle caps are litter, too. At most courses you can’t even begin to pick up these small symbols of indifference, because there can be hundreds on a single tee, and there isn’t enough time in the day. The fact that litter’s main function is to attract more litter can make the job of an anti-litter crusader a frustrating one.

How nice it would be to possess enough wisdom to know the difference between the things we can change, and the things we can’t. But some windmills are nevertheless worth chasing, and some fights you abandon only at the risk of your soul.

I’d appeal to your better natures, but if you’re one of the butt and bottle cap flickers, you may have yet to meet your better nature yet. And threats? Well, most threats are preposterous. Much better when the unsuspecting litterer hears the woosh of a masked figure hurtling down toward him on a zip line, wrapping leather-clad legs around his environmentally unconscious head and squeezing out the magic words:

“Okay already, I promise never to litter again.”
