Final Details Player Email:
Good evening, golfers!
We are just days away from Veterans for Vets @ Eagle's Nest Ranch, and I am overflowing with excitement. Thank you so much for helping us raise money for an incredible organization actively making a difference in the lives of veterans. Please find attached the caddie card and the fancy caddie book for your convenience, and keep reading for some noteworthy details.
CHECK IN: I have pinched starting and ending tee times for everyone's benefit. The earliest potential tee time is now 0930, so I will open check-in at 0830, and you must be checked in at least 15 minutes prior to your tee time. There will be a practice area set up north of the parking area (see attached map), and there is a porta-potty by the barn for our use. This is the only bathroom located on the course, and it is really only convenient to the start and end.
Please note that Saturday is set to be the only day this week NOT in the 60s and..uh...quite a bit cooler. Please plan accordingly; it's gonna be amazing. If we DO end up having some snow, I am fine with ribbon or chalk play; whatever strikes your fancy.
COURTESIES: While on site, please feel free to take as much time as you'd like to get to know the ranch, its founders and staff, the horses, and the mission. Because this is private property and we are guests, I ask that you refrain from alcohol use or smoking of any kind. If you MUST smoke, please exit the property via the driveway and police your butts thoroughly. Do NOT be the reason we aren't invited back.
OUT OF BOUNDS: Property fence and beyond is OB for the entire course. I designed the holes so that we do not challenge these fences much, but if you do find yourself OB over a property fence, DO NOT GO AFTER IT. The neighbors on the east side are friendly, and we will send a runner to collect all discs after the conclusion of the tournament. Please mark your discs and let tournament central know if you lose one over the eastern fence. If you throw OB over the southern fence: this neighbor is NOT friendly, and will NOT tolerate trespassers. Please don't test him. Unfortunately, you will have to consider this disc lost forever.
Additionally, there are three marked areas on the course that are also OB: the crater on 3 (and 4 if your drive is bad); the marsh pit on 17 (which may also contain water); and the entire area surrounding the barn, stable area, and main house. These areas will be marked with flags, but please also reference the caddie card so you understand the boundaries.
Finally, there is only ONE time a pasture fence is OB, and that is on hole 11 long. More about pasture fences below:
PASTURE FENCES: The electricity on these fences will be turned OFF for the duration of our round. You are absolutely, completely, positively allowed and encouraged to climb through the fences. It does not require too much dexterity, but it may be awkward to get a cart through or over.
I did my best to set up transitions near gates so that you do not have to cross fences if you choose not to, but there are two spots where it will be nearly unavoidable (or at least require a very long walk to avoid). The first is crossing from 9's tee to 9's basket. The tee on 10 is conveniently located for you to drop your cart, and if you REALLY don't want to climb through the fence, you may walk down to the gate by tee 12.
The second is upon completion of hole 17. If you choose to crawl through the fence, 18's tee is just a quick walk away and you stay out of its fairway. If you want to use the gate instead, you will need to yield to 18's fairway. We hope to have a spotter at the gate to help guide you, but you will essentially have to walk directly down 18's fairway, and the gate from the tee is blind. Please be patient and cautious.
SPECIAL ADDITIONS: When you check in, you will have an opportunity to pick up an ornament for the Remembrance Tree. If you would like to, please write down the name of and/or a message to a lost or fallen veteran or first responder you would like to remember. You will then carry that ornament with you through your round and hang it on the Remembrance Tree, which is located next to the basket on 18. This is a great way to play and pay homage to loved ones who have served.
Mulligans will be available for purchase on site. Since this is a brand new course, we are giving every player 3 mulligans off the bat, free of charge. From there, it will be a dollar per mulligan, payable by cash or Venmo, with no limit. It is up to the card to properly keep track of mulligans, and every single dollar raised from mulligans will be given back to Eagle's Nest Ranch.
SCORING AND AWARDS: Scoring will be done on UDisc. (The course is also set up on UDisc if you want to look at the layout there instead.) When you check in at tournament central, please also "Check In" on the app. If you don't have the app, please make sure at least one person on your card does and manually checks you in. I will also have paper backups.
The trophies have arrived! There will be an awards ceremony for first place in each division. This will take place as soon as last card returns. You do not have to stay. I will post results to discgolfscene within 48 hours and mail out trophies to any winners not present.
Also, I almost forgot: there is a toy drive tournament on Sunday, 10 Dec at Prickly Pines, also in Elizabeth. If you are able to play, please register on discgolfscene. If you cannot make it but would like to donate toys or gift wrapping supplies, please bring those to me on Friday or Saturday, and I will deliver them to the Sunday tourney. Use the registration link above for more information.
I always think I'm going to make these emails short, and it never happens. Thank you for reading it in its entirety. If I forgot something, please do not hesitate to reach out and ask. Also, it's not too late to bring more friends with you. This event is open to all players regardless of skill or experience or status.
Once again, thank you, and I can't wait to see you on Saturday!
