All;
We are really looking forward to hosting you on Saturday for the opener of the Virginia Junior Disc Golf Series! We will be playing the Campside temporary course at Burke Lake Park's campgrounds, not the regular Burke Lake course.
To get to Campside, go in the main park entrance and take a left past the entrance booth toward the mini-golf and ice cream parlor. Follow that road until you come to the campground entrance. You will see a barrel on the right side of the entrance. Move the barrel, drive through, and replace the barrel. There will be a line of cars on the left. Park behind the first car you see. Do not turn around. Do not park on the right.
Campside will be open for practice on Friday, March 1 from 6:30am to 5:30pm. It will also open at 7:00am on Saturday for warm-ups and practice/walk-throughs. On Friday, the course will be set up in second-round format, because we have 90 monthly players and 18 Junior Classic competitors who will play that format this weekend, and only 13 Junior Classic competitors who will only play the shorter first-round format. If your kiddos are younger and playing only the shorter first-round layout, that will be available for practice at 7:00am on Saturday morning.
Tournament headquarters will be by the trailer in the gravel lot near the camp store. Check-in is from 8:15 to 8:45, and we will have a brief players' meeting at 8:45. Players will then proceed to their holes. I will issue the two-minute signal by yelling "two minutes!" When you hear the signal, please also yell "two minutes!" to pass the message around the course. I will then yell "start!" to begin play. Please also yell "start!" as you did with "two minutes!" It is traditional for players to high-five or fist bump for good luck once start is called, but before throwing your first drive.
Your hole assignments will be posted on the PDGA event page. Please check your assignments both the night before and the morning of the event, as drops can sometimes change things. Players are with their division as much as possible. Please let me know ASAP if there are instances where players who do not have the same last name need to be grouped together for chaperone purposes.
We will be using the PDGA Digital Scorecard as the official scoring method of this event. All players or their caddies must keep score. You can access the Digital Scorecard through the free PDGA Live app (highly recommended, has searchable rules) or by pointing your phone's browser to pdga.com/score. If keeping score on your phone isn't possible, we can provide you with paper scorecards, but you must notify us by noon on Friday, March 1.
The scoring code is NVJC24.
Lunch is a beef or vegan hot dog bar with dairy-free buns, condiments, chips, and sports drinks. For veterans of my other events: yes, I do provide ketchup at the junior events, so you do not need to bring your own. Remember, lunch is now free for chaperones, so adjust your registration ASAP if mom/dad/grandparent/older sibling is accompanying you and wants lunch, too.
FJ12, MJ10, FJ10, MJ08, and FJ08 will only play the first round and the winners will receive their medals at lunch. MJ18, MJ15, FJ15, and MJ12 will play a second round on the standard Campside layout and the winners will receive their medals afterward.
Please let me know if you have any questions!
