I sent the following email to all registered players last night at the email addresses you provided. The email itself has many useful hyperlinks, so I recommend starring it for easy reference. Here's the text:
It's almost here! Clark's Run DGC is looking absolutely stunning, the temperatures are warm, but not oppressive, and Bluechip Technologies and the LoCo Disc Golf Club are excited to welcome you to Lucketts, VA for the Thirteenth Annual LoCo Open. But first, some reminders and notes:
(1) Tee times. Tee times will be posted on the PDGA event page no later than Wednesday evening, and we'll send out a notification email when we post. With 48 players, the plan is to hold tee times from 10:00am to 1:24pm on Friday to allow out-of-town players time to get in and settled. On Saturday and Sunday, we will push tee times back an hour and start at 9:00am. If we get a surge of registrants in the next two days, this plan may have to change. Thank you for being flexible.
(2) Layout, practice, and tournament warm-ups. The course is closed to casual play beginning Wednesday, so if you're here on Wednesday and/or Thursday, you will have the run of the place. OB was marked yesterday and the course and hole notes are here. On tournament days, the Scattersville par 2 course is open for warm-ups. You may not warm up on the course.
(3) Check in requirements. This is a PDGA A-Tier using a staggered start format, so Competition Manual 1.04.C's requirements apply. That will also satisfy the check-in requirement of 1.04.A. In other words: you only need to check in with the starter (usually ATD Rob Stark) five minutes before your tee time each day and hang out at the tee for those five minutes. No other check-in is needed.
(4) Lunch and social events. Lunch will be provided to all players on Friday and Saturday. There will be an informal hangout/get-together at Flying Ace Farm, a disc golfer-owned brewery, distillery, and BBQ joint less than 10 minutes from the course on Thursday night. We will have details about the players' party when the Wednesday tee time announcement email goes out.
(5) Scoring. Charge your phones (unless you already indicated you will require a paper card)! Per section 808.A of the Official Rules of Disc Golf, every player must keep score. We also encourage you to keep your own stats as you play if you wish, but it is not required. Digital scoring uses the PDGA Digital Scorecard, which can be accessed through your phone's browser or through the free PDGA Live App (highly recommended). We will include the password for the Digital Scorecard for this event in the Wednesday email. If you're using a paper card, please provide your own pencil.
(6) Yellowjackets. This is late summer and we are in the Virginia woods. That means hangry yellowjackets are possible on the course. We are doing our best to identify and address potential problems as quickly as possible, but as you may know, they can develop quickly and be difficult to eliminate. We will not have EMS on site, and the course is almost 20 minutes from the closest emergency room, so if you are allergic, bring your Epi-Pen, Benadryl, or whatever your emergency action plan involves.
(7) Playoffs. In the case of a tie for first place for any division after all rounds are complete, we will conduct a sudden-death playoff per Competition Manual 1.09.B.1 et seq. The loop for that playoff will be holes 2, 9, 10, 17, 18, 1, in that order.
(8) Payout. Projected payouts are published to the PDGA event page. $15 per player goes to our host, Furnace Mountain Camp, as greens fees. $4 goes to the PDGA. $1 goes to the ODDS series. The remaining $80, plus $3,100 added cash, constitutes the purse. If you cash and it brings you to more than $600 earned from LoCo DGC events in tax year 2024, we will require you to fill out a W-9 in order to receive your payout.
(9) Sponsors and volunteers. Speaking of payout, let's recognize the folks who make this event possible!
ATD and title sponsor Rob Stark. Without Rob, this is simply not an A-Tier. He is an amazing ATD, a punctual starter, and a generous sponsor, not only to the pro purse, but also things like the restrooms on site. He has put in a lot of time at the workdays leading up to this event, manning a weedeater and a paint wand alike.
Trophy and lunch sponsor Lindsay Sullivan. In addition to clearly being a saint for putting up with your TD, Lindsay kindly purchased the trophies and bought you all lunch - twice.
Sponsor Dusty Walker, who never hesitates to support events in our area (and play in them).
Course managers and LoCo DGC Board members past and present, Steve Ganz, Stephan Evers, John W. Iliff, Austin Jackson, Brian Junkins, Tim Lawson, and Alicia McFall.
*Everyone who worked to make this course beautiful for this event, especially the winner of the Most Fun Weedeating Award, Ryan Bailey, and the yellowjacket assassin, Matt Lamberski.
Please don't hesitate to reach out with questions, and we're excited to see you all this weekend!
