Email sent to all players:
Good afternoon & welcome to NIO Weekend!
Thank you so much for choosing to spend your weekend with the Birdbrain crew at the Northern Illinois Open! I am very excited for all of you to play 3 rounds at our 2 home courses in Rolling Knolls & Shady Oaks! This email will serve as the player’s meeting to provide you with all information to have a great weekend both pre-event, during the event & post-event.
-All players are required to check-in at their starting course (A Pool – Shady Oaks, check-in with Thomas Kuzniar, B Pool – Rolling Knolls, check-in with Dan Schlitter) – check-in runs from 7:30am to 8:45am. Any players not checked in by that time will be assumed absent and may be removed from the event, so please make sure you check in on time or let me know if you are coming but running late (don’t be that guy please!)
-Players pack pickup for all Ams will take place at your starting course before Round 1. Grab a disc, grab a towel & grab a pencil! Thanks to Discraft and Grumpy Goat for the players packs!
-PARKING: Both courses have LIMITED parking. I suggest carpooling where applicable, but for ROLLING KNOLLS: DO NOT CREATE YOUR OWN PARKING SPOT, and DO NOT PARK UP AGAINST THE MAINTENANCE SHED. If the lot is full, please park in the school parking lot across the street. For SHADY OAKS: If the parking lot around the Community Center is full, please park by Hole 13 near Oakhill Elementary. Please be respectful of the neighbors.
-PDGA Digital Scorecard is being used – the ACCESS CODE FOR THE WEEKEND IS: NIO24 - Everyone is required to keep score in 2024. I have paper cards available for anyone that is unable or does not want to use their phone.

-USE A SPOTTER!!! I am trying my best to round up volunteers for the weekend (looks like I have a bunch for Sunday but not many on Saturday) – Rolling Knolls is quite thick off the fairways, and NOBODY WANTS TO LOSE A DISC, OR HAVE THEIR SCORE PENALIZED FOR DOING SO! Please keep watch on every shot to reduce searching time & lost discs. Please turn in any found discs to your course TD, we will post all we find as well as contact information if applicable.
-We will have coolers of water out on both courses. The bridge on 4 at Shady as well as near the corner of 12 & 15 will have a cooler with water bottles, and Rolling Knolls on 18/1 & 4/12. It looks like a warm weekend so please come prepared with sunscreen, bug spray and WATER!
-Please note there are portable restrooms at Rolling Knolls. I am not 100% sure if Streamwood got their portable restroom put out for this weekend, but if the community center is open, there are bathrooms inside that you may use.
-Round 1 Tee-off will be at 9am tomorrow morning – be at your starting hole no later than 8:58am. Hole assignments are posted to pdga.com/tour/event/81829 – This is where you will find Round 2 & Round 3 Hole assignments when available.
-Lunch tomorrow will be about 1 hour and 15 minutes from the time the last card is finished at each course. This should give plenty of time for lunch and travel (courses are about 10 minutes apart).
-Dellwood Disc Golf will be here Sunday to vend Amateur payouts at Rolling Knolls! A Pool, please travel to Rolling Knolls after your final round to obtain payouts and awards.
-CTPs will be Round 1 only! Pros are only eligible for the CASH CTP’s if they have bought in – A Pool Cash CTP will be on Hole 5 Shady Oaks, and B Pool Cash CTP will be on Hole 3 Rolling Knolls. There will be a handful of DIVISIONAL AM ONLY CTPs that ALL AMS ARE ELIGIBLE FOR! Please make sure you are checking the CTP card to verify it is for YOUR DIVISION before signing your name. CTPs will be available for pickup on Sunday morning, I will send an email out Saturday night with the winners.
-ACE POT is at a staggering $750! This includes about $450 that was rolled over from the Spring Thing in April! Run those chains – if no aces are hit this weekend (I’d be shocked), the ace pot will roll over to Shady Strokes at Shady Oaks in the fall!
I am sure that I am leaving something out (I always do) so If you expected to see something in this email that you did not, please let me know. I am happy to respond to any questions no matter how silly you think it may be, I want you to be prepared and ready for an awesome weekend of DISC GOLF! THANK YOU for playing the NIO, good luck & skill this weekend!
Your Tournament Director,
Dan Schlitter
