The 2021 Oderus Open OB / Rules Sheet

COURSE OBS:
HOLE 1: Surrounded by water behind basket
HOLE 2: Surround by water (Pine Lake) moving from White Tee to Short Pin Green area. By Short Pin Green area, roped areas along Pine Lake (see below for Island pin rules)
HOLE 3: Roped areas along Pine Lake
HOLE 4: Yellow Roped areas along left of fairway, right of fairway along creek and around island green. On tee shot, if disc crosses the red rope (plane of island green) and goes OB, the next shot will be from the drop zone flagged at the end of the bridge. If a tee shot goes OB over a yellow roped area only, standard OB rules apply. After the tee shot, any shot that goes out of bounds, standard OB rules apply.
HOLE 5: Roped areas along right side of fairway next to fairway of hole 4 (generally only in play from the Blue Tee)
HOLE 6: Roped areas along Pine Lake
HOLE 7: No OB
HOLE 8: Surrounded by water (Pine Lake)
HOLE 9: Roped areas along right side of fairway and around chasm (near Long pin)
HOLE 10: No OB
HOLE 11: Roped areas on left of fairway along creek
HOLE 12, 13 & 14: No OB
HOLE 15: Roped areas along Pine Lake and along rough on left side approaching Long pin
HOLES 16,17 &18: No OB

HOLE 2 ISLAND PIN RULES:
Disc must come to rest in bounds on island (marked with wooden planks and rope). If disc does not land safely in bounds on island, either play from the edge of the lake where the disc was last in bounds (regular OB rules) or proceed to the drop zone (alternate short tee near bridge) with a 1 stroke penalty. After 2 rethrows to the Island (3 SHOTS TOTAL), if not safely in bounds, the player will move to the Drop Zone that is located near the stairs to the Platform on the Island. There are still some areas of standing water near the OB ropes and planks. In most areas, it is a few feet off of the OB lines. I am going to flag a drop zone near the path to the Platform stairs that players may use with no penalty if their lie forces them to stand in water that will get their shoes entirely wet during their putt. This is about a 25 foot put and in most instances where there is standing water, it may be farther than where you lie is at. So it will be player's choice to either putt from the lie or to move to the drop zone with no penalty. There will be spotters on the Island for Round 2.

Also, there are still some areas with ropes where the water is past the in bounds areas. There are some areas on 2, 3, 6, and 15 that could have this, especially with the possibility of more rain. The ropes will still play as the OB lines. But if a disc is in bounds but surrounded by water, the player is allowed casual relief to the edge of the water directly in line with their shot. If the lie is unclear, get a group consensus and take a provisional shot (if necessary).

TEE ASSIGNMENTS:
Round 1: Reds to Shorts (All players)
Round 2:
MP0, MA1, MA40 – Blues to Longs
MA50 – Whites to Longs (No Island Hole 2)
MA2, MA3 – Whites to Longs
FA1, FA2, MA4 – Reds to Longs (No Island on Hole 2)

HOLES WITH LONG PINS: 2 (Island), 9, 12, 15

ALL OBS INCUR A ONE STROKE PENALTY!! The Ropes play as lines, so a portion of the disc must be touching the area in bounds inside the rope to be considered safe. If there is any doubt, take a Provisional Shot and get a group consensus.

Also, please keep in mind we are still in the middle of a pandemic. Wearing a mask is recommended at any point at HQ when social distancing is not possible.

PLEASE DO NOT PARK ON THE GRASS NEAR THE COURSE ALONG THE PARK ROAD!!!!! We are going to ask as many player's as possible to car pool to the course. The park has asked that we park along the maintenance drive before using the park drive that leads to the course. Also, if you are starting on 16-18, the smaller lot near Pine Lake off of Rt. 87 is also recommended. All of this will be reinforced during the player's meeting.

EVENT LAYOUT UPDATE!!!!

It was noticed last week that there was a bee's nest on the platform. After treating it 3 times, we were hoping that it would be enough to take care of the nest. But as of today, they are still active and will swarm when on the platform. So we have decided that the Gold #3 Tee will not be in play for the 2nd round for the MPO, MA1, and MA40 divisions. They layout for those groups will be a standard Blues to Longs

As for the Island, there is still some areas of standing water near the OB ropes and planks. In most areas, it is a few feet off of the OB lines. I really really really want the Island to be in play, so I am going to flag a drop zone near the path to the Platform stairs that players may use with no penalty if their lie forces them to stand in water that will get their shoes entirely wet during their putt. We will have Bill and Dyl's Grill on site for after round 1 for lunch for anybody interested. They will be grilling up hot dogs near the practice basket or by hole 1 blue tee at the course. This will be a quick and easy lunch option and will keep players closer to the course and Tourney HQ so we can be sure to keep it moving along to get round 2 started ASAP.

Event Side Games / CTP Info:

There will be a $2 ace fund that can be bought in the day of the event. This will be for both rounds and standard ace fund rules apply. In the event an ace is not hit, all players who bought in will have a CTP located at the Kiwana's Hall during payouts. If no players make the CTP shot, the top 3 closes players will be paid out at the following percentages: closest: 60%, 2nd closest: 30%, 3rd closest: 10%

There will also be CTPs during each round.

Also for round 2, there will be "Hot Score" prizes for each division. The prize will be an event stamped Lil Wizard. In the case of a tie for the "Hot Score," the following tie breakers will be used:
Most Aces
Most Eagles
Least Double/Triple/Quadruple (etc.) Bogeys
Least total Bogey
Most Birdies

If this does not settle the tie, both players will receive a prize.

There was a typo regarding playing to the Long Pin on hole 2 (Island pin) that is updated below. Players will have 3 TOTAL shots to make the Island before moving to the Platform Drop Zone (1 shot +2 possible rethrows).

ALSO....PLEASE NOTE COURSE CONDTIONS WILL DICTATE OBS!!! There is rain in the forecast between now and the event. As is, a good bit of the roped areas along the lake, including the Island, have standing water inside the ropes. With this in mind, OBs will be finalized Saturday night or Sunday morning and communicated to all players during the MANDATORY PLAYERS MEETING before round 1. This is to confirm OBs, layouts, and any other important information.

(alternate short tee by bridge). After 2 rethrows to the Island, if not safely in bounds, the player will move to the Drop Zone that is located on the Platform (Gold 3 Tee) on the Island.

HOLE 3 GOLD TEE RULES:
Disc must land safely in bounds (ropes along Pine Lake) from the drive. If a drive touches in bounds and then moves out of bounds, the player may take their next shot from the point the disc was last in bounds. If a drive does not land or touch in bounds from the Platform, the player has the option to retee or to move to the Hole 3 Blue Tee with a 1 stroke penalty (shooting 3). ONLY MPO, MA1, AND MA40 WILL BE PLAYING THE HOLE 3 GOLD TEE!

Similar to the event in 2020, we will be using an off-site location for Tournament HQ for this event. This is the same location used as last year's event and for The 2021 Eagles Fly at Punderson from a couple months back.

Check in, break, and awards/payouts will all be handled off-site at Kiwana's Community Hall, located at 14685 View Drive, Newbury, OH. This is only about 5 minutes away from the course located right off Elm Drive, which is about 1/2 mile west off of Rt 87 (Kinsman) from the main park entrance. Elm Drive (which is located directly across from the Animal Hospital) ends right into the parking lot for this Community Hall. ALL PLAYERS MUST CHECK-IN AT THIS LOCATION PRIOR TO THE EVENT WITH NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!!!!!

Also, we ask that if possible, have players carpool to the course to minimize the amount of parked vehicles. Also, there will be NO PARKING ON THE GRASS at any place within the park. There will be parking available on the maintenance road and the road leading into the park, but only park on the paved areas to avoid any damage to the grass. This will be reinforced at the Player's Meeting as well before players head to the course.

Thanks to all that came out for year 5!!! Definitely an interesting day with my first ever lightning delay during an event. Thanks to all the players who stuck it out and endured a long and grueling day. The event report has been submitted for PDGA approval and all payouts for the MPO players are posted.

There's a few players that left before payouts and prizes, and I will contact them each separately to get them their stuff.
