Happy one week away to our Otonabee Open players!
Thank you all for joining us next weekend, on June 27 for our first sanctioned event.
We're very excited to host this Ontario Tour C-tier on the course we've been working so hard to make amazing!
Below are some things you might want to know before the event:
This will be a shotgun start event with two rounds, and a lunch break in between. Check-in will take place from 8am to 9am, with a 9am player meeting, aiming for a 9:30am Round 1 start. We expect to provide a 1-hour break for lunch, with Round 2 starting after that.
Due to our location, we do not recommend planning to leave for lunch. We sell concessions on site — coffee and tea in the morning, with hot dogs, chips, pop, Gatorade, ice cream bars, and candy available throughout the day. You can still pre-order a hot dog combo for lunch at a cheaper rate than on site that day (to help us plan better!). We take cash and card on site.
This is a trophy-only event, with handmade first place trophies carved from a fallen tree on Hole 4. We also have a few raffle prizes — podium placements will earn you a shot at the raffle!
Your player pack consists of Otonabee/Escape Maze Outway socks, an escape room BOGO card, a laser tag play discount card, a Gatorade, and candy galore! If you'd like to book an escape room or laser tag session for after the event, please let me know.
We will have water refills on Holes 5 and 11, as well as Tournament Central (which is between Holes 18 and 1).
There will be a Ghost Hole between Holes 18 and 1 to accommodate a longer walk, a washroom break, and a snack break (as well as a stop at your car, should it be needed). We MAY add a second Ghost Hole should scheduling require, but hope to not.
Washrooms can be found in close proximity to Hole 18, Hole 5 shorts, Hole 7, and Hole 11. These are very clean privies, well-stocked with TP and sanitizer, but please be advised they do not have running water.
As a PDGA-sanctioned event, we adhere to all PDGA rules of play, with the addition of enforcing NO SMOKING while on our property. Smoking may only take place at the "Muster Point" sign in the parking lot.
We are proud to be an Ontario Tour First Flights event and provincial qualifier for the Ontario Provincial Championships in Kemptville in September. Please make sure your ODSA membership is current if you're hoping to qualify for Provincials (which is also TDd by yours truly).
As an Ontario Tour event, Hole 12 also will be our Pound Ace Hole — if you're an ODSA member and you hit an ace on Hole 12, you can call a brand new Pound bag your own!
We WILL operate a general Ace Pot for the event — you can edit your registration to add this now, or you can pay cash/card for this on arrival. The general Ace Pot is $5. Cash in, cash out. If not hit, this fund is donated to enhance our Ontario Junior Provincials event at the end of August.
We WILL operate CTPs for Round 1 only — these are cash CTPs per layout (found below) so your CTP will stack up against only the layout you're playing. CTP is also $5, which can be added to your registration now or paid for via cash/card on arrival.
Should a playoff be necessary, Hole 18 will be played on repeat.
We will do awards/trophies/raffles immediately following the last card's arrival back at Tournament Central. Please be a kind human and stick around to applaud your fellow competitors!
Course Updates:
To keep pace of play more efficient, fields that may usually play as hazard will play as out of bounds during this event. We will mark as much OB with stakes or chalk paint as we can, but the farm fields will also be freshly cut, so the line should be obvious. This affects Holes 5, 8, 9, and 18.
You can see hole layouts here, with the caveat that the above tournament-only OB is not always indicated.
Layouts:
Shorts/Shorts: MA50, FA50, MA60, FA60, MA70, MA3, FA3 (CTP Hole 2 and 17)
Longs/Shorts: MP60, FP40, FA1, MA40, MA2 (CTP Hole 4 and 15)
Longs/Longs: MPO, MP40, MP50, MA1 (CTP Hole 8 and 16)
Volunteers:
We are still looking for volunteers to help us spot on our trickier holes. Volunteers receive lunch, socks, and our eternal thanks. Please let us know if you have a friend or family member willing to spot for us.
Practice Rounds:
Our day pass is $10 and the course is open today, Saturday, Sunday, Thursday, and Friday next week from dawn to dusk. On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday the course will open at 2pm due to prescheduled field trips. Please pay for your practice round online, via e-transfer, with cash in the drop slot, or in the main office on arrival. You will likely see us out there doing last minute work on the course throughout the week — we'd love to hear your feedback as you play!
Camping:
If you booked tent camping with us, please let us know your expected arrival. Tent camping spaces are still available, as are spaces in our two cabins (additional cost, please contact). Tent camping is $40 for a tent for one night and includes access to a BBQ, fire pit, and privy.
