I just sent out a (belated) player email. I apologize; work has been absolutely bonkers this week.
Here's the text:
This weekend is the Tenth Annual LoCo Open, the eighth 2021 ODDS event, and the centerpiece of the LoCo Disc Golf Club's calendar. Please read this entire email; you are responsible for all its contents. Some of you are on the waitlist; read this anyway, just in case.
First, I want to thank Rob Stark, the King in the North, the LoCo Board Secretary, and the CEO and founder of Bluechip Technologies, LLC. Without Rob's vision and support, this event would not be what it is. Thank you, Rob, for your selflessness, leadership, and friendship.
This event takes place at Franklin Park and Clark's Run at Freedom Center. Pool A (PROs, MA1, MA40) plays two rounds at Clark's Run on Saturday, then one round at Franklin Park on Sunday. Top MPO and FPO finishers play a Safari Final 9 (please note Competition Manual 1.08.D if you make the cut but do not want to play the Safari Final 9). I am your pool TD.
Pool B (all other AMs) plays two rounds at Franklin Park on Saturday and one round at Clark's Run on Sunday. The schedule and all scorecards have been up on DGS for some time. Your pool TD is LoCo Club President John W. Iliff.
You will park in the pool parking lot at Franklin Park and Tournament Central will be located in the events field near hole 4 and the construction on (not in use) hole 6, under a gigantic Bluechip Technologies tent. At Clark's Run, you will follow the directions of the parking attendant. PLEASE CARPOOL wherever possible.
Now, let's go over a few other things.
First: please note that hole assignments are up on PDGA.com. These are for your reference, but you still need to check in with your course TD on Saturday morning. If folks drop out - no refunds at this point, by the way, registration is closed - your hole assignment might change, but it is unlikely.
Second: please note the attached caddie book and the video players' meeting, which have course-specific rules for you. The caddie book also has course maps and LoCo Open history.
Third: we will be using the PDGA Digital Scorecard as the official scoring method of this event. Each group will also receive a paper scorecard as backup. To keep score, please point your browser to pdga.com/score and enter the code StarkX. Learn more about the Digital Scorecard here. Details of the layout, including tee, pin, distance, par, and OB notes are in the Digital Scorecard and color-coded and noted on the paper scorecard.
Fourth: player packs and payouts! All AMs will pick up their player packs before their first round at Franklin Park, which will be Saturday for most of you and Sunday for MA1 and MA40. This is a True Amateur Event, so top finishers will receive trophies, with the number of places depending on the size of the event. PROs, there is $8,000 cash added to the purse, and projected payouts are up on PDGA.com. We will be sending out payouts via PayPal, which means that, under Virginia state law, players winning more than $600 will be issued a 1099-K by PayPal automatically rather than filling out a tax form with the club.
Fifth: bathrooms, water, and food. At Franklin Park, there are portable toilets near holes 3/4, 9/10/12, and 18/1. Park staff will have water jugs out at Tournament Central (accessible to hole 4 and on the way to hole 7, and across the street from hole 15), at hole 1, hole 10, and hole 16. At Clark's Run, there are indoor restrooms near the back parking lot and hole 5, as well as two portable toilets accessible to holes 1, 9, and 10. There will be water on holes 1 and 10. Lunch will be provided on Saturday: pizza at Franklin, and either pizza or sausages at Clark's Run. There will be a plant-based option at each course. Please do not eat the plant-based option if you eat meat (unless all the non-meat-eaters have been fed already).
Sixth: venue rules. There is no alcohol allowed at either course. There is also no smoking or vaping allowed at Clark's Run. Do not walk across the street to smoke. Do not park in the neighborhood to smoke and drink. Just don't do it. If you break these rules, or if you litter at either course and I can prove it, I will disqualify you on the spot.
Seventh: ace bounties! Bluechip Technologies is offering a $500 bounty for the first person to ace hole 18 at Clark's Run and two $250 bounties for the first people to ace hole 2 at Clark's Run or hole 1 at Franklin Park during the tournament.
Finally: PLAYER PARTY! Vanish Brewery is offering 50% off your first beer to all LoCo Open players 21 and over on Saturday night. Support the businesses that support our events!
Thanks for reading all this. If you have further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out. If your question's answer is contained in this email or on DGS, expect a lovingly-curated screenshot as a response. If it is not, expect an apology from me and another mass email pushing out the information.
Let's get LoCo!
