If anyone goes out to practice this weekend, can you please report to me by text at 859-475-8145, if any of the following are in a bad state: the status of putting circles which have been painted on grass; the status of putting circles which have been partially or wholly painted on gravel; the status of any or all paint on the temp hole. I know anything that is painted on dirt is probably gone, and I am aware the soccer field has been painted. THANK YOU.

If you are #1 or #2 on the waitlist on Sunday, it may not hurt to show up, as usually one or two people fail to show up and we can move you. All waitlisters who don’t play will be given the option of a full refund, or having their registration moved to Mt Airy on 22 September.

Temp hole around the soccer field has been approved by the PDGA and by Boone County Parks. Here is a thorough description of the hole and the rules for playing it:

The hole is approximately 451 feet long and is a par four. It is shaped as a true 90° dogleg left with a tight fairway that opens up around the bend, and a green which is separated from the fairway by OB. The hole is defined by the PDGA as having an “island green with an inbound fairway”, and received a waiver for inclusion in sanctioned play last week. An island green with an inbound fairway is similar to a standard island hole in that there is a putting green entirely surrounded by OB, for which there is a mandatory drop zone; it differs from a standard island hole in that there is also an inbound fairway which is surrounded by its own OB, separate from the OB which surrounds the green. These are known as OB1 (fairway) and OB2 (green).

The reason why the PDGA requires two separate OB areas for an island green with in bound fairway, is that the mandatory drop zone is only for players who “miss the green”. Players who simply miss the fairway play by normal OB rules, with no drop zone available. Therefore, two separate OB areas must exist because separate OB rulesets exist for the fairway and green, and we must define for which area a player must proceed to the drop zone and for which area they play normal OB.

The OB rules for the fairway/OB1 are as follows: players whose disc comes to rest in OB1 must take a one stroke penalty and resume play from their nearest inbound point, with 1m of relief from the OB line given.

The OB rules for the green/OB2 are as follows: players whose disc comes to rest in OB2 without having previously established an inbound lie on the green must take a one stroke penalty and proceed to the mandatory drop zone. Players whose disc has at any point come to rest within the inbound putting green inside OB2, or who have played from the drop zone, play normal OB rules (nobody takes more than one throw from the drop zone unless their throw from the drop zone never crossed in bound over the green).

Basically, once you’re on the green, you’re on the green, but you do have to play from the DZ if you miss the green without ever coming to rest inside the green.

Paint/markings: The fairway will be painted and flagged white. The putting green will be painted blue, but marked with pink flags (Home Depot had no blue flags). The line marking the boundary between OB1 and OB2 will also be painted blue, but will not be flagged. All putting greens will be painted orange.
