Good Morning Disc Golfers!
I hope everyone is getting excited as the clock ticks-down towards the second annual King’s Forest Open!
This email is going out to all currently registered players as well as our waitlisted players. In the event a spot does become available, I want to make sure everyone has been given the same information ahead of time. Read-on below to learn more...
Schedule
The full schedule is available in your Player's Guide and on DGS. Please note that the front gates will be open by 8 am (at latest) both days, with our player's meeting going live at approximately 8:50 am. Please budget the award ceremony into your schedule at the end of the day; it's just plain good sportsmanship to lend your attention to your fellow competitors at the end of the day to acknowledge their achievements. We should be out and done with awards no later than 5:30pm.
Player's Pack
-------------------
In an effort to stifle the trend of increasing C-tier registration fees, we've done our best to maintain an "accessible" price point with the KFO. That being said, I've also managed to do a bit of fundraising to ensure that none of our amateur players go home empty handed. Each amateur player receives the new Thought Space Athletics "Expanse" driver, an event poster, sticker, and plenty of snacks. Please remember to bring a reusable water bottle to fill-up throughout the day. There is also a licensed bar/restaurant on-site that you may visit during your ghost-hole break, check-in, lunch and where we'll be giving out our awards.

Player's Guide
--------------------
In anticipation of improving weather and plenty of good practice days in the upcoming week, we wanted to get our player's guide out ASAP to help you prepare for this weekend's big event.

Volunteers
---------------
We LOVE volunteers. Due to the nature of the KFO, most players are only playing 1 of the 2 days next weekend. If you're willing, we would love your help on the course on your off-day. We can always use on-course officials, spotters, check-in support, OB lines-people and even just spectators. If you are willing to volunteer one of the days, please let me know by responding to this email. I will be reserving a finite number of early registration spots in 2026 for anyone who volunteers at least 1 full day at this year's KFO.
Withdrawals
-----------------
If you are unable to attend and planning to withdraw, please do so ASAP as a courtesy to the players on our waitlist.
Waitlisters
--------------
There are currently a good chunk of this email's recipients still on the waitlist for the event. From experience, we typically see about a 10% turnover rate the week+ before an event. We're sharing the guide with you because you should certainly have an opportunity to prepare as well, in the event you're added. If you don't happen to make it into the event, we will issue all waitlist refunds the evening the14th. Those interested in volunteering are welcomed with open arms... and will also receive the first opportunity to fill day-of drop-outs, should they occur ;)
Course Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes
-----------------------------------------
We traditionally make a few adjustments to the tournament course at King's Forest in an effort to streamline your tournament experience, increase safety, remove dead-walks and speed-up your rounds. The weather and moisture/flooding from our recent flash-melt has played a large role in inspiring our adjustments. This year, the addition of holes "A" & "B" may be a new challenge to anyone who didn't play in the Horseshoe Doubles or visit throughout the winter. These holes are located between course holes 11 and 12. Please note that you are teeing-off from OB on both holes and must cross into play in order to proceed forward off the tee. We have also (re)implemented our triple-mandatory on hole 3 for the event, where all layouts utilize the same tee location as a par 4 (flooding). I will go over the mandatory rules in our players meeting, however, it might be a good time to brush up on your knowledge of PDGA rules in the meantime. Below is a quick list of the remaining course adjustments we've made this year for the event:
- Hole 10 has been consolidated into a single tee (the standard mid/short tee).
- Hole 11's long tee has been moved forward with the par adjusted to 4.
- Hole 13's long tee has been moved up the hill (mud), behind the short/mid tee.
- Hole 14's long/middle tee has been moved forward and adjusted to a par 3.
- The forest left/right on hole 16 will be marked as OB with a drop zone for the event. This has been done in an effort to relieve recurring congestion on the hole.
- We've added a short tee to hole 18 which is labelled as a par 3.
- The short tee on hole 20 has been moved to share the mid tee. It will remain a par 5.
Please take a look at the map in your player's guide for a visual reference.
Again, if you have any questions, please feel free to shoot me an email or text message, or post on the DGS page and I'll get back to you with an answer ASAP.
Ontario Tour & Provincial Qualifier
----------------------------------------------
It’s included in the guide as well… but it’s so nice, we’ve got to say it twice. The KFO is the first OCC Tour event of the 2025 calendar year! The top 3 finishers in every division (top 2 in MA3/FA3) will qualify for Provincials this October in Guelph! Each division winner will also earn their club a point in the Ontario Club Championship rankings.
Remember, you must join or renew your ODSA membership prior to the event to be eligible for your provincials pass, club points and all the promotional tour holes.
That's it for now, enjoy your week, we'll see you shortly!
