Hello, and thank you for joining the first tournament hosted by Northern IL Juniors Disc Golf. We are excited to have you at our inaugural 2022 Juniors Lucky Shot Tournament and hopefully can welcome you back to future events.
Since this is a Juniors Only event there are a few pieces of info we wanted to send out to you to be aware of as for many this will be your first experience at a PDGA sanctioned event.
A few key reminders:
•This is a PDGA Sanctioned event, all PDGA rules will be followed
•Parents/Guardians MUST walk with their child for FJ12, MJ12, and younger divisions
•All participants must supply their own discs.(all discs must be PDGA approved)
•Digital Scoring will be used and explained prior to the round
Be familiar with the rules of the game. The full set of rules can be found here: Official Rules of Disc Golf (
https://www.pdga.com/rules/official-rules-disc-golf)
Some key highlights on the rules:
•802.05 Lie
--Use of a mini marker disc is required if the player wants to throw the same disc again.
--The marker disc must first be used to mark the lie before picking up the previously thrown disc.
•805.03 Lost Disc
--If a player cannot find their disc after it has been thrown it is considered a lost disc after searching for three minutes.
•806.01 Putting Area
--The putting area is a 10 meter diameter circle from the base of the target.
--All throws (putts) from this circle must be done so with the player maintaining full control of balance.
•807 Completing the Hole
--To finish the hole, the disc must be thrown and come to rest supported by the tray or the chains below the chain support.
•809.03 Practice Throw
--Practice throws are not allowed once the tournament starts
--Practice throws which are thrown after the start of the tournament will result in a penalty throw
•813.01 Illegal Disc
--This section has a lot of information on what constitutes an illegal disc for many reasons.
--All discs used must be PDGA approved discs. The list can be found here: PDGA Approved Disc Golf Discs (
https://www.pdga.com/technical-standards/equipment-certification/discs)
While this may seem like a lot of information, especially if you or your child is new to the sport, it all closely follows the rules of traditional golf and quickly becomes second nature while out on the course.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. There will also be a player meeting prior to teeing off to go over any course specific rules/details and to answer any questions.
One final note, with the expected warmer weather, some areas of the course may be a little soft and muddy.
