As we wrap up post HBIX clean up I wanted to share some of the text that I received from the family we adopted (Shannon & Wyatt) this year. I think what she wrote encompasses what we try to accomplish. Providing a family that has their life turned upside down due to loss with financial support is one small part of why we continue to host this event. Showing families what this community is made of is the driving force which makes this event so special and why Disc Golf for a Cause was created! Thank you from all of us at DGFC!
"March 16, 2023... Suddenly, losing Mark, life as Wyatt and I knew it had changed forever. Our whole world was on top of my shoulders. EVERYTHING was now on me... To provide, care for and manage our life that we worked together for. It's been a difficult hardship of challenges and experiences this past year to say the least. This donation speaks volumes not only by the way it was provided but by the way it will IMMENSELY help financially with Wyatt, bills and other expenses that are needed.
Saying "Thank you" doesn't even come close. It's far beyond a thank you. Truly, this is so hard to write because I just want to give you all the tightest hug!
Saturday meant so much to us. Meeting you, as well as everyone else, was amazing. Everyone was so extremely sweet and wonderful to us.
It was a very familiar feeling I experienced on Saturday, that had come back to me from attending many events/tournaments over the years with Mark. I didn't realize I had missed and really needed that so much. The atmosphere was filled with so many awesome, caring, fun people.
It's been too hard, since Marks passing that I've been able to go any courses because of years of so many memories flooding back at even just the thought. It just hurt too much. Mark was so excited and couldn't wait until Wyatt was finally old enough to teach him and could understand it all. But Saturday, honoring Mark, and hearing so many stories that every person I talked to who had lost someone and why Disc golf for a Cause was created, it sparked and ignited a new flame that had previously dimmed out and I'm excited to get out there once again. It changed my view. Instead of it being painful, reminiscing... To embrace it and be proud. That's what I felt Saturday and I'm ready now. Personally, that means the world to me because I want Wyatt to experience and see why his dad had such a love, passion, and dedication for this game and for the incredible community supporting it (and us). It is extremely important to me.
I KNOW for a fact that Mark would be, hands down, beyond thrilled, appreciative, and profoundly proud to be Honored as well as his family. I know he was there...
So, with that being said, I again, never will be able thank you ENOUGH for this opportunity and the help of these donations and support that has been provided. It means so, SO much more than I can ever express. Our gratitude truly goes far beyond words. ????"
