About this tournament

The Foxwood Open is scheduled for the May 'two-four' long weekend here in Ontario.

The event will be a USDGC qualifying tournament, we will announce shortly how many spots that will be.

Our host, Golf North - Foxwood Golf and Country Club is very excited to have us all there again, and will be doing everything possible to ensure the course is in great shape and that we can all play safely.

In 2019 Foxwood built the Big White disc golf course. The course has been so popular that they decided to build a second 18 hole layout, Big Red in 2020. The Foxwood Open will be using both layouts in 2021!

The Title sponsor for the tournament will again be sponsored by Explore Waterloo Region. Making another generous contribution to ensure the event is a success this year! There will be many other sponsors too, and will be announced at a later date

Innova Disc Golf and Grand River Disc Golf are working together to bring this event to the Waterloo region. The tournament will showcase the challenging and beautiful Foxwood Disc Golf Course. Minor changes to the existing Big White, and Big Red layout will be done again to make it harder in some spots, easier in others. Especially for the more recreational but still competitive divisions.

Each player will enjoy one round of golf on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. All players will be assigned a time to tee off at.

This year the pro divisions divisions offered will be MPO, FPO, MP40, and MP50.

We decided to use the PDGA ratings based/colour system in 2021 again for amateur registration for a number of reasons:

1. Inherently it just seems fair, you will play against people of the same caliber regardless of age or gender
2. Many divisions at tournaments end up being quite small, we hoped this would resolve that issue by reducing the number of options available
3. Age protected divisions often have a large variation between the highest and lowest rated players, see the example from the 2019 Ontario Provincials, there was a 110 point ratings difference between the first and last place player, and a 72 stroke difference, most divisions had similar variation
4. It will give the opportunity for some players to compete against people they don't usually, should be fun
5. We honestly hope it will encourage more female players to participate
6. The ratings based system allows for players to move up a division if they wish to be more competitive, or if they practiced hard all winter and think they are better than their rating from the fall of 2019, let us know if you would prefer to do.
7. With a smaller ratings variation in each division one would expect the competition to be stiffer, which is good.

All players can play ratings based division regardless

The courses will be available for play before the tournament. You will need to book tee times for practice rounds. We will be setting the courses up formally on the Thursday morning, painted OB's and the like.

The Grand River Disc Golf Club and Golf North - Foxwood Golf and Country Club look forward to hosting you in 2021!
