PLAYERS MEETING EMAIL FOR DAY ONE:
What is up guys!!!
Thank you so much for signing up for this year's Desert Flyers Open! I want to give the biggest HELL YEA! to Chad Villegas and his wife Glinde's Team Winnie contribution to the event - They have always been huge supporters of the Club, but they really stepped up this year and provided a BIG BOY title sponsorship and truly made this event possible. None of our events could be possible, let alone successful, without the support from all of our amazing sponsors; Regardless of their contribution.
With that said, let's get this show on the road!
Please make sure to read the below very carefully and in full !
PRACTICE / DOUBLES
Practice Round will be available with baskets on Friday Afternoon starting at 1PM. When you enter the property, please park in the parking lot and proceed to Tournament Central. You must check-in with Event Staff at Tournament Central to access the course, and the $10 course fee will be charged there. The $10 course fee goes straight back to the event to cover any remaining pass through fees, and any remaining (if any) funds will be paid out as Added Cash to the Pro Divisions. We will have several payment options, including Paypal, Venmo, CashApp and Zelle, but cash is preferred.
Event Staff will also ask if you would like to participate in Doubles - If yes, a separate $10 Entry Fee will be applied. That $10 will go straight towards payout for the Doubles Event. It is a Random Draw, Best Shot Doubles on the Tournament Layout that will be scored on uDisc. When you sign up with Tournament Central, you will be entered into the event on uDisc and YOU MUST CHECK IN ON UDISC after we add you. The course will be available until dark, or until we take the baskets down lol.
CHECK-IN
Amateurs must check-in on Saturday morning before their round to collect their players pack. Pros do not need to check in, but please be ready at Hole 1 five minutes before your round begins so I don't freak out that you're not there. I won't stroke you for not being there exactly 5 minutes before, but don't push it lol.
VENDING
We will have 3 vendors on site for all your needs. We are proud to host:
1. Tom Ohsterdahl with Plastic Pilot USA - Get all your plastic needs here from classic molds to brand new signature series discs!
2. Grön Edibles - Do I need to say more? The best edible producers in the valley (and the world imo). They will be providing free samples, and running a putting game after the round.
3. Egg Roll Masters - Their name says it all. They are Masters at the Egg Roll. They have plenty of options for everyone! Cheap meals, a la carte options and drinks for all. Please see the Attached Menu for pricing.
You can locate Tom and Grön near the Driving Range, and The Egg Roll Masters will be in the parking lot near Tournament Central. These businesses came out here to support you guys, and it would be really awesome if you all showed some support back as well. Take a look at what's for sale and if you are looking for a lunch spot after the round, make sure to give those egg rolls a chance, they are so freaking good!!
CADDY BOOK / LAYOUT
This year's layout is slightly different from last year's, but all for the better! We stayed true to the flow of last year, and hopefully improved the scoring separation across the board. The most notable changes are to Holes 11-14. On Hole 11, we pushed the basket back around 70 feet into a protected green, and brought the water more into play on the shot into the green, making this hole a true Par 5. Hole 12 and 13 are completely new, and 13 is going to be really tough with the double mando. If you are on 12's tee and you want to play the safe straight shot to the corner of the property, please be mindful of the card in front of you on 13's tee. It shouldn't come into play but you never know. Hole 14 is a never-before-seen hole at the property and we spent some good time making that green look somewhat pleasing. Please be mindful that you can lay up on the shorter end of the water to limit the water carry if you lack distance.
The Caddy Book is attached to this email, and is also available to download on Disc Golf Scene on the Tournament's Home Page under Documents. If there are any discrepancies between PDGA, Tee Signs, or the Caddy Book (there shouldn't be) the Caddy Book supersedes each rule source for this course. I spent many hours building this thing, so please make sure to read it and if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out and I can take care of those for you! If you experience any conflict on rulings during the round, THROW A PROVISIONAL, and come find me at Tournament Central and I can assist with a ruling or help answer any questions.
PACE OF PLAY
Pace of Play for this event is pretty casual this time around since the tournament didn't sell out, but that doesn't mean you should slack off! It's still going to be really hot, and we don't wanna be in the sun any more than you do lol. There are a couple threesomes out there and I put in some gaps between cards to help relieve some of the backups, but with a course this long and difficult, it's bound to happen. And when it does, I want you to look back, and if there are people behind you, and not in front of you, you are the problem.
WEATHER
It's going to be hot this weekend, who would've guessed! This course is awesome in the summer with the amount of shade it provides, but it's still the Valley. So please make sure to start hydrating NOW and ensure you bring plenty of water as well. We will have water stations located at Hole 1/7, Hole 11, and at the Maintenance Building near Hole 14's basket. Premium Drinks will be sold at Egg Roll Masters in the Parking Lot as well. If any of these locations are out of water, please text/email me asap so I can get someone over there to fill it up. You can find my number on the PDGA Live app if you don't have it already.
ACE POOL
$10 Entry, Any ace will be paid as long as you're in the pot. If there are multiple aces, pot will be split evenly. If the same player aces multiple times, they will receive that many shares of the pot.
Ace Pool must be paid online at Registration. We will NOT be allowing day-of ace pool registration to avoid any mishandling of who did and who did not pay in. If you have not paid for the Ace Pool, or don't know if you did, your time is now. Update your registration on Disc Golf Scene and check the Ace Pool box to enter. Ace Pool entries will close at the first tee at 8am on Saturday.
If No Aces are hit, we will host a random wheel spin with 3 winners hosted on the Desert Flyers Facebook Page. Email will be sent to winners with a request for payment method.
I will share the value of the pot on Saturday night in the Round 2 Players Meeting e-mail.
LIVE SCORING
Live Scoring will be provided via The PDGA Live App or at pdga.com/score
Every card member must take score per PDGA Official Rules of Disc Golf 808.A - any player who refuses to take score will be subject to disqualification.
