The Charlotte Amateur Championship date is closing in and you, like the three of us at DG1 are anxious as to whether the CAC will be held in June. While we have not been too vocal about a decision as to host the CAC, reschedule or cancel, the thought has been heavy on our minds. With the event still over 2 months away and the complete effect of COVID19 still unknown, we are not ready to throw in the towel yet, but we are gearing towards making ‘final decisions’.
When COVID19 started to hit Italy and the US, DG1 had their finger on the trigger ready to order a ‘boatload’ of player pack items for the CAC. Fortunately for all of us, the COVID19 hit before we placed the order, allowing us some flexibility in handling refunds for player cancelations.
While the event is still over 2 months away, the time is getting close for DG1 to start making decisions as if the event was to proceed as planned. We are closing in on order deadlines for the CAC which leads to this email you are reading. Furthermore, with the 3 of us each having very busy disc golf schedules all year long and this event requiring a staff of many TDs, if the event cannot be held on it’s original weekend, we will be forced to cancel the 2020 Charlotte Amateur Championship.
Organizing an event like the CAC takes much time and pre event expense. We have done our best to protect you the player and the entry fee you have invested into this event by postponing our original player pack plans to see how the ‘COVID STORM’ played out, with high hopes that ‘the show would go on’.
As with any event that offers a substantial player pack, ordering 4-6 weeks prior to the event is required to ensure each player receives their players pack at the time of the event. With this being said, DG1 is at the point of setting deadlines for ourselves and you as well.
Currently, DG1 is issuing a 100% refund for any player that wishes to withdraw from the event and we will continue to do this until the end of April. Once the date of May 1 is reached, DG1 will no longer be able to issue refunds for the event and will be forced to stick with the current PDGA event refund policy. Any player that withdraws from the CAC after May 1 will receive a player’s pack instead of a refund.
While we are optimistic that the event will go on as planned, we are also concerned that COVID19 may not allow this to be the case. It is time for you the player to do some soul searching. If you would rather have a refund issued for the event you MUST NOTIFY DG1 NO LATER THAN APRIL 30 via EMAIL to [email redacted]. A refund will be issued as soon as practically possible, typically within 24 hours. If you decide to hold out with hopes of the event continuing as planned, you will receive your full players pack in lieu of a refund.
We hope you understand our position and know that DG1 aspires to provide each player with a quality large scale event with large field competition while upholding the highest player respect and courtesy that each of you deserve. Please take into mind that running an event of this size takes a large amount of upfront capital that is impractical for a business such as ours to absorb, henceforth the refund cutoff date of April 30.
Thanks for your time and we have hopes that if we don’t see you at the CAC we see you in the very near future.
Stay safe and healthy my friends.
Chuckster and DG1.
