DDG Team Match Play League
About this tournament
Weekly Team Match Play League
The breakdown-
6 teams will be formed via live draft to compete in a 8 week match play league. At the end of 8 weeks the teams with the top 4 records will play a 2 week playoff to determine the winners.
Weekly matches will put 2 teams head to head every week at a different course layout. Weekly match seeding will be determined by the home team captains. Example – Team A player 1 vs Team B player 1. Team A player 2 vs Team B player 2, and so on. (Number of players per team and team captains TBD based on number of registered players. Total # of teams subject to change.) Captains will be selected from interested players, potentially made up of the highest rated players. Draft date/order TBD.
Each week players will be responsible for scheduling their match with the opponent assigned to them by their team captain. Players have 1 week to complete their match at the designated course for that week and report the results. Overall team win/lose record will be determined by the individual matches.
Layout specific rules will be posted each week, standard PDGA rules apply, no two-meter rule ever. Matches cannot be played in conjunction with any tournament, league or doubles rounds. Tags are in play for matches, winner takes home low tag.
Match play rules and scoring –
Unlike stroke play, in which the unit of scoring is the total number of strokes taken over one or more rounds of golf, match play scoring consists of individual holes won, halved or lost. On each hole, the most that can be gained is one point. Golfers play as normal, counting the strokes taken on a given hole. The golfer with the lowest score on a given hole receives one point. If the golfers tie, then no points are assigned for the hole. For example, in an 18-hole match, the first hole is a par-4 and Player A scores a 3 (birdie) and Player B scores a 4 (par); Player A is now 1-up with 17 to play. In the same match on the second hole, a par-5, Player A takes 8 strokes and Player B takes 5 (par); Player B wins the hole and the match is now "all square" with 16 to play. On the third hole, a par-3, both players take 3 strokes and the match is all square with 15 holes to play. Once a player is "up" more holes than there are holes remaining to play the match is over. For example, if after 12 holes Player A is 7-up with six left to play, Player A is said to have won the match "7 and 6". If a match is tied after 18 holes players will go to sudden death and the first hole won will decide the match.
