Good evening. I am super excited that you signed up to be part of our next "Night Flights" at the Vineyard on Friday, June 19th. This will be a 1 round PDGA C-Tier. We will do a shotgun start at 6p sharp.
Cheryl and I will be at tournament central, which will be next to 6's tee pad. This is the most central part to have tournament central. We will begin check in around 515p. We will have a shotgun start at 6p. I will post hole assignments by around 230p on event day, since registration will be open until 2p. They will be found at:
https://www.pdga.com/tour/event/105317
The Vineyard is a really popular Night Flights course, but it is also one that can cause frustration by players due to the unique set up of a few holes. Those being holes 1 and 15 with parking lot being the majority of the view when looking from the tee pad. Last year we played the holes as OB, with 15 having a drop zone. For this year, holes 1 and 15 are "hazard strokes" if you land surrounded by pavement/concrete on those 2 holes. A lot of people complained about the OB so this is the next best option, and there were some crazy high scores due to multiple OB shots. Also, you shouldn't get punished if you land at the edge of the pavement and then have to go backwards to the drop zone. The reality is they are not great holes for PDGA events and particulars. There is no good way to play them, so after quite a bit of discussion, we are going to go with hazards for 2026. This should cause less penalty strokes over all which is a win for everyone.
For hole 8, it will be an island for everyone. If missed go to drop zone with penalty. Missing the island is defined by not landing inside the marked area. Short in the grass before the pavement is considered OB.
Reminder about "hazards", you play your disc where it lies if surrounded by pavement/concrete with a penalty stroke.
With doing a shotgun start, make sure you are at your hole by 558p when we will yell "two minutes". Please be aware that the course is not shut down for this event, so be mindful and considerate of casuals who may be on the course. It's important that we all play nice together.
Here is the schedule of events. The schedule will look like this:
515p-550p - Player Check In
6p - Shotgun Start
@745p- Awards/payouts
For those in the ACE fund, payouts will be done electronically this year. If an ACE isn't hit, it will be donated to the UC Discats.
We will be using PDGA Live for all scoring, and a reminder that everyone needs to keep score now (PDGA live or paper copy). The PDGA Live access code is: vineyard619
We are playing the regular 18 holes. This will be in PDGA live.
All other OB is mainly roads/pavement/surrounded by water in pond.
Cards will be made of of primarily 3-4 players. Depending on numbers, we may have to mix some divisions. We will do our best to make sure everyone is with at least 1 person from their division.
In order to win a division winners bag tag, there has to be at least 2 people in the division.
In the event there is a tie, we will not have a playoff due to lack of light after the round. All parties tied following the round will be awarded a win in PDGA.
All AM divisions will receive AM's merchandise credit to use immediately following the completion of their divisions rounds to be used the day of event. There will be merchandise on hand to exchange. Open players will receive their payouts via PayPal electronically.
It is on each player to know the PDGA rules and guidelines. It is on each card to make sure you are on the appropriate tee. It's easy to go to the wrong hole sometimes, so make sure the card confirms they are on the correct tee pad for each hole.
It's going to be a great late afternoon/early afternoon round. Again, we are excited that you are going to join us.
See you at the course!
Josh and Cheryl Terwilleger
