As we are a few days out from the event, we just wanted to send out a players info email. Hopefully this will have everything in it to answer any questions you may have.
Sunday, 8/14 will be the event at both Heritage (1st round) and Millikin (2nd round). It is going to be a PDGA 2 round C-Tier event, with a shotgun start around 9a. We will play both courses regular 18 hole layout.
For round 1, we will check people in by the shelter and hole 1 at Heritage. For round 2 at Millikin, our tournament central will be located in the space that is in-between holes 2/3/4 area. You will see us with a white pop up tent.
Please plan accordingly with temps and possible rain. Bring lots of legal liquids, sunscreen, umbrellas, or whatever you need to help you perform at your best. As tempting as it is to want to take off your shirt tomorrow, PDGA rules/guidelines do not allow it. Feel free to wear tank tops or cut off tshirts. But you must wear a shirt during the rounds.
The course particulars with OB and such for each hole will be posted in the PICTURE section of the event on Disc Golf Scene. We will be using a stricter layout at Heritage this go round. On holes 1-10 and 16/18, we will be playing the wildflower/grass area as OB, as well as the Bamboo forests. This will be marked with Orange paint. The lines for this event will be considered IN (to give you a few extra inches of in bounds).
WE CAN'T STRESS ENOUGH THE IMPORTANCE OF SPOTTERS AT HERITAGE. WITH THE HIGH GRASS/BAMBOO AREAS, DISCS GET SUCKED IN AND LOST. PDGA SAYS YOU HAVE 3 MINUTES TO FIND YOUR DISC, AND THEN YOU HAVE TO MOVE ON AND RETHROW WITH PENALTY STROKE. WE CANNOT AFFORD TO BACK UP THE COURSE. A SPOTTER FOR SOME OF THESE HOLES WILL HELP YOU AND THE TOURNAMENT OUT. PLEASE DO YOUR PART. (sorry for the CAPS, but I can't stress this enough). A quote I love by famed sports psychologist Bob Rotella: "(Throw) the shot you can (throw), not the one you think you should". With the strict OB in the tall grass/bamboo, make sure you consider your skill set and disc selection on these throws. All OB strokes and lies are placed where you went in the OB area.
Here is the schedule of events. The schedule will look like this:
8-850a - Player Check In at Heritage by shelter/Hole 1 area
9a - Shotgun Start for Round 1 (Heritage)
@12p lunch break (approximately 1.5 hours for travel and break)
@130p - Shotgun Start for Round 2 (Millikin)
Immediately following will be Awards and Ace Throw Off if not hit during the round
Please note: There will not be a players meeting. It is on each player to check in so we know you are here. Please check in face to face with Cheryl or myself at the shelter, and you will receive your event shirt.
Hole assignments will be posted by 9p Saturday evening.
For all players who are in the ACE Fund, if it is not hit, we will do a throw off and the ACE Fund will go to the closest disc.
We will be using PDGA Live for all scoring, and then a secondary form of scoring per card (PDGA live, Udisc or paper copy). The PDGA Live access code is: midsummer
Cards will be made of of primarily 4 players. Depending on numbers, we may have to mix some divisions. We will do our best to make sure everyone is with at least 1 person from their division. Divisions of 5 will play together both rounds.
Please remember that all juniors 13 or younger are required to have a parent/guardian walk with them. If it is a situation where both the parent and junior are playing, please let me know so we can card you up together.
All divisions will receive AM's Crossover cash immediately following the completion of their divisions rounds. There will be merchandise on hand to exchange in the Crossover Cash.
It is on each player to know the PDGA rules and guidelines. It is on each card to make sure you are on the appropriate tee. It's easy to go to the wrong hole sometimes, so make sure the card confirms they are on the correct tee pad for each hole.
It's going to be a great day. Thank you for signing up to be a part of it. We look forward to seeing you all Sunday. If for some reason you need to drop/withdraw, please do so by Friday at 8p to receive a full refund. After that it is 50% until Sunday, and then no refund issued.
Please contact us with any questions you may have.
Thanks and have a great weekend,
Josh and Cheryl
