Good evening. As we are a few days out from the event, we just wanted to send out a players info email. Hopefully this will have everything in it to answer any questions you may have about the Crossover Merry Discmas 2023.
Saturday, 12/23 the event will be at both Heritage (1st round) and Millikin (2nd round). It is going to be a PDGA 2 round Pro C-Tier/AM B-Tier event, with a shotgun start at 9a. We will play both courses regular 18 hole layout. In the event you need to reach a TD, please call/text/message Cheryl at 513-348-6140.
For round 1, we will check people in by the shelter and hole 1 at Heritage. For round 2 at Millikin, our tournament central will be the shelter that is in between 1 and 18's basket. You don't have to check back in, but if you end up dropping out, please have the courtesy to let us know so we can plan accordingly.
The course particulars with OB and such are going to be pretty friendly and flowing for the course. At Heritage, it is basically on/over any path. At Millikin, it is on/over/through fences, and the posts on holes 17/18. It will be clearly understood in PDGA live.
A few things about Heritage. We do not play the black foul line on the tee pads. You must release/throw with your feet on the tee pad per PDGA rules. Be aware and mindful of the bamboo forests. The tall wild flowers/grass is pretty thin, but still keep an eye on discs. I'd recommend a spotter on holes 2, 4, 15, because those are the holes that the bamboo most comes into play. Remember, if a disc is lost, someone needs to be responsible and start the 3 minute clock for a lost disc. If you throw into the bamboo your option is to re-tee/re-throw from previous spot with penalty stroke, take an unplayable lie with penalty stroke (you move directly in a line away from the basket), or take your chances. You do not get free relief from anything at Heritage. We've recently had players thinking they can take 2 meter from anything they don't want to throw next to, and that is not accurate.
As far as Millikin goes, there may or may not be standing water on the course. If there is, it is casual relief directly backwards away from the basket with no penalty stroke. That's the only free relief permitted.
When we run events at 2 different courses, this brings up some things that doesn't happen when at one course. If you are at Heritage and are starting on holes 7-13, after you check in, feel free to park down at the other end of the park where it is closer to get to your hole. I don't need anyone to physically check in after round 1, but I NEED EVERYONE TO FINISH AND FINALIZE YOUR SCORE CARD IN PDGA LIVE. If multiple people keep it in PDGA, BOTH must finalize it. Per PDGA, any scorecards not submitted within 30 minutes of the end of the round gives everyone one the scorecard a 2 stoke penalty. Finalize it and don't do that to the card if you are keeping score.
Here is the schedule of events. The schedule will look something like this (times are estimated based off of previous events):
8-850a - Player Check In at Heritage by shelter/Hole 1 area
9a - Shotgun Start for Round 1 (Heritage)
@11p lunch break (approximately 1.5 hours for travel and break)
@1230p - Shotgun Start for Round 2 (Millikin)
Immediately following will be Awards and Ace Throw Off if not hit during the round
Please note: There will not be a players meeting. It is on each player to check in so we know you are here. Please check in face to face with Cheryl or myself at the shelter, and you will receive your shirt prior to round 1.
Hole assignments will be posted by 9p Friday evening.
For all players who are in the ACE Fund, if it is not hit, we will do a throw off and the ACE Fund will go to the closest disc. The ACE fund will be paid out via PayPal. In the event of a tie for first place, the players will start on hole 1 and go until there is a winner.
We will be using PDGA Live for all scoring, and then a secondary form of scoring per card (PDGA live, Udisc or paper copy). The PDGA Live access code is: merrydiscmas
Cards will be made of of primarily 4 players. Depending on numbers, we may have to mix some divisions. We will do our best to make sure everyone is with at least 1 person from their division.
Please remember that all juniors 13 or younger are required to have a parent/guardian walk with them. If it is a situation where both the parent and junior are playing, please let me know so we can card you up together.
All AM divisions will receive AM's Crossover cash immediately following the completion of their divisions rounds. There will be merchandise on hand to exchange in the Crossover Cash. All Open players will receive their payouts via PayPal.
It is on each player to know the PDGA rules and guidelines. It is on each card to make sure you are on the appropriate tee. It's easy to go to the wrong hole sometimes, so make sure the card confirms they are on the correct tee pad for each hole.
It's going to be a great day. Thank you for signing up to be a part of it. We look forward to seeing you all Saturday. If for some reason you need to drop/withdraw, please do so by Friday at 5p to receive a full refund. .
Please contact us with any questions you may have.
Thanks and Merry Discmas,
Josh and Cheryl
