Good evening!
I wanted to get this tournament email out this evening. Cheryl and I are super excited about the upcoming Crossover Cedar Wonderland PDGA C-Tier at Cedar Grove.
The following will be the most important details for the event. Please reach out to us if you have any additional questions or
comments before the event.
The event is Sunday, 12/5 at Cedar Grove (21208 Meadow Lane, 47041). Please note there is a bridge out that isn't always in the map apps. If you are coming on 74, go to the Sunman exit. If you are coming from Greater Cincinnati area, come through Lawrenceburg.
The schedule will look like this for the day:
9-945a - Player check in (it will be behind the garage)
945a - Player meeting
10a - Round 1 Tee Off
@1230p - Lunch Break
@130p -2nd Round
It's going to be a fun day and event. You might want to pack a lunch due to where we are located. There is a gas station about 10 minutes away, and IGA with lunch options about 15 minutes away, and a Subway about 15 minutes away.
Those who are in the ACE fund, if no ACE is hit, we will do a throw off on hole #1, where winner takes the whole pot.
The layout for this event will be as follows. The first round we will play the "Blue" or long layout. Please follow the tee signs for OB/Mandos and other information needed. The second round we will play the "Purple" or short layout.
Please note about the two layouts.
-On hole 1, it is the same tee for both layouts. Island greens are used for the BLUE layout only. The tee signs are accurate.
-Holes 3, 5, 9, 10, and 14 have a short and a long basket and only 1 tee
-Holes, 2, 4, 6, 7, 8, 11, 12, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, and 20 have 2 tees and only 1 basket
-Hole 13 has a shared tee, but a Mando you must go right on for PURPLE and left for BLUE layouts (there is a sign).
In the event there is a tie for first place, they playoff will start on hole #1 until there is a winner playing the BLUE layout.
At the completion of the 2 rounds, we will do awards and payouts. As per PDGA, the top 40% will receive Crossover Cash. This can be exchanged for disc golf merchandise that we will have on hand. For divisions of 3 or more, there will be a trophy for the winner on top of the payout.
We will try our best to use PDGA Live scoring. There has recently been a cell tower upgrade nearby, so hopefully we can take advantage of this. If not, we will use paper and Udisc. There needs to be 2 forms of scoring on all cards. The PDGA code is: wonderland
A few things to remember since this is the 2nd PDGA sanctioned tournaments we've had here this year since we've reopened. When you arrive, please park up next to the garage gravel area, or in front of the house in the grass. I will be out there to direct cars. It's important that everyone parks towards the house.
After you arrive and park, please check in behind the house. You may then warm up around the course if needed. The big grassy area in front of our house will be tempting to go out and rip a few warm up shots. Please don't, because even though it looks like our yard, it is not. In order to have events here, we need to stay off our neighbors properties.
As far as the course goes, it is in really good shape. It is a little slick in a few spots, but nothing major. You will find a few holes with Mandos/OB stakes. Yes, I do like to present a challenge, but these are in place to provide safety for others (by not throwing over other holes) and/or to prevent/limit discs going on to neighbors properties. I will have white lines painted. Please note that the stakes are just for a visual. Use the white lines for all OB. On holes 5 and 7, if you are next to the OB barbwire on the right, you get 2 meters relief.
In the event you are going to withdraw, to be eligible for a full refund, you need to submit your request by 8p Friday.
The last thing I want to say about the course and event, is to remember that everyone is going to hit trees. This is not a course that you can take "cheater" lines or short cuts. It's not a roller friendly course due to all the stumps that are still out there. Going over the top rarely works. Being overly aggressive is typically not the play. You must hit your lines. Every hole has a fair line to hit. The ceiling is low on a lot of holes, but the lines are absolutely there. Play the %'s if you want to score well. Cedar Grove is a very unique and different course. It's a different type of disc golf than many are used to. Having said that, it isn't in any way to scare people away. You just have to know coming in that there will be some good breaks and some bad breaks.
Since this is a C-tier, the elevated baskets, hanging baskets and "guarded basket" locations are legal. The island on hole #1 Blue is legal as well with a drop zone. This course is very unique. On #8 with the truck bed, if you land in it, please mark your disc nearest relief outside of it and tap in your putt. Please don't climb up in the truck bed.
It's going to be a great day. We are super excited to have everyone out. Please contact us with any questions you may have!
We will see you Sunday!
Thanks,
Josh and Cheryl
