Hi there,
We’re excited about the Ice Bowl on Saturday at 1PM at the Corner Brook Disc Golf Course!
If this is your first disc golf tournament, you picked a great one to start with. The Ice Bowl is meant to be a fun competition where the scores matter less than how much fun you have, and we’re raising money for a great cause.
The tournament is a shotgun start (everyone starts at the same time on a different hole on the course) that will begin shortly after a short pre-round talk at 1PM. The layout is the front nine blue loop played twice, with an added hole from a temporary tee pad across the soccer field to the practice basket that is played once (so 19 holes total). Groups will be formed at check-in (you can choose your own groups of 3-5 people). Several holes will have small to large tweaks added, which will be discussed at the pre-round talk.
Scoring will be done on the UDisc app. It would be a good idea to download the app and register before the event (it’s free). If you’re unable or have trouble, don’t worry about it, we can get you set up before the tournament. The layout for the event is up on UDisc now.
Mulligans (re-throws) will be available to purchase for $5 each or 5 for $20. You can pay for mulligans before the round begins. If you need more during the round, you can purchase them after the round is over; you just need to keep track of them during the round. Food donations can also be used to purchase mulligans. TD Dave will make a judgement call on how many mulligans your donation is worth.
With all the snow we received last week, the snow pack is pretty deep. Big thanks to Sean Dwyer for grooming the fairways, but if you get off the tracks, you’ll likely go through. You may want to attach ribbon to your discs:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yq7onUGx5So. Lost discs receive a penalty throw and then must be re-thrown from the previous lie (e.g., if you lose your tee shot, you re-tee and that would be your third shot on the hole; but you can always buy a mulligan…).
Player packs will be distributed at check-in and include a mini marker and a base plastic putter (the idea being that if you don’t need the disc you can pass it onto someone else to get them to try disc golf). We’re not sure how many people will show up, so we may not have enough mini markers, but if you don’t get one, we’ll make more after the event and get one to you.
For Corner Brook Disc Golf members, we will be distributing Disc Golf NL bag tags at the event. The five best finishers will receive the five lowest numbers and all other tags will be assigned randomly. The first set of personalized 2025 membership mini markers will be ready soon. If you’d like to become a member, dues for 2025 are $20 (we’ll just need your email address to have on file). All money is reinvested into growing disc golf in Corner Brook.
After the round, there will be a short trophy presentation and prize distribution.
All purchases can be made with cash or e-transfer to [email redacted].
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out.
Looking forward to this Saturday!
