Layout: Alum Creek Blue Layout (1 and 17 to short basket)
Round 1
Hole 1: Both players found themselves in roughly the same position off the tee. We got a good amount of distance with myself being a bit deeper in and shorter. My approach put me edge of circle 1 short right, while John’s landed about 15 ft behind the basket obstructed. I made my putt while John shorted his.Point Luke. 1-0 Luke.
Hole 2: My drive was low and didn’t get much distance and had a small tree directly ahead. John’s made the gap and put him in excellent position to attack. I threw 2 shots to get into bullseye while John’s second put him at edge of circle 1 that he made.Point John. 1-1 Even
Hole 3: We both landed in the fairway and chipped up to the basket for par. 1-1-1 Even
Hole 4: Similar to hole 3 except we were both off the fairway but managed to throw some short scramble shots to get the par. 1-1-2 Even
Hole 5: John had a great drive off the tee landing just left of center fairway. I did not get the flip I expected and went far left towards hole 6s tee pad. Fighting the low ceiling, my scramble shot came up short and obstructed on the right. John proceeded to chip up and take par to win the hole. Point John. 2-1-2 John
Hole 6: John’s drive found the water after getting stopped short by a tree and dropping down forcing a retee. After my drive landed safely and my second shot landed in the circle, I took the hole. Point Luke. 2-2-2 Even
Hole 8. Both landed in circle 1 off the tee with my shot being 5 feet closer. Both made the putt to push the hole. 2-2-3 Even.
Hole 9. I parked the hole with a RHBH that turned right and dropped down in bullseye. John landed short right off the tee. Point Luke. 3-2-3 Luke
Hole 10: I thought I shanked my drive but after crossing the water found myself about 25 feet short right of John’s tee shot. We both chipped up for the par. 3-2-4 Luke
Hole A: My tee shot found it’s way in the water going out just right of the basket. John had an obstructed put to get the birdie but missed it. We both made our short putts to push the hole. 3-2-5 Luke
Hole 11: We both had decent drives but not good enough to have a real chance at a birdie. Both threw simple approach shots to tie. 3-2-6 Luke
Hole 12: I threw an excellent drive that left me 100 ft from the basket. Meanwhile John hit an early tree that left him with nothing more than a forehand roller. This got him up to the main tree line. He chipped up and had an easy 4. From my drive my approach came up a bit short landing edge of circle I missed the putt, bailing John out from going down 2. 3-2-7 Luke
Hole 13: my tee shot hit a tree leaving me about 80 from the basket in the fairway but obstructed. John was about 40/50 from the basket with no obstacles. My approach went long finding its way off the ridge and into the water. Point John. 3-3-7 Even
Hole 14: John’s tee shot hit a tree center and his approach was short armed a bit leaving him at 41 ft. My drive put me 43 ft left of the basket. I pitched up to bullseye forcing John to run the dangerous put. Unfortunately he missed giving me the hole. Point Luke. 4-3-7
The rain started to come down when teeing off and proceeded through hole 17.
Hole 15: I rushed my drive and hit a tree dropping short center fairway. My approach landed just short of the round about in bounds leaving me a 45 ft putt. John’s tee shot made it up to the drop off right of the basket just before the round about. John’s putt fell in bullseye and I missed my long attempt. Point John. 4-4-7 Even.
Hole 16. John’s tee shot came up a bit short. He proceeded to pitch up and take a simple par. My tee shot had a favorable kiss off a tree leaving me about 35 ft from the basket. Unfortunately I missed, splitting the hole. 4-4-8 even.
Hole 17. Both of our drives left us a fair bit away from the basket. Both pitched up and parred out. 4-4-9 Even.
Hole 18. John’s tee shot was pure, going straight and drifting right to land just across the little moat like area. My tee shot hit a tree but I surprisingly had an open 200 ft look to the pin. I hit some trees unfortunately and dropped down about 60 feet from the basket while John pitched up in position for a tap in par. I missed my long putt giving John the deciding point. 5-4-9 John.
