Hey everyone,
I hope you've got your muck boots ready for tomorrow! It's going to be wet back there, but for the middle of March, the weather could be worse. And it's nothing that'll put a damper on the start of our sanctioned tournament season.
Thank you to all of our hole sponsors, everyone who worked to clean up brush on Clay East this week and, of course, our title sponsor, Rapid Rivers Disc Golf. As previously announced, RRDG is putting up a Paratrooper bag for an all-am CTP on Hole 7 as well as $100 added cash for the pros. They're making similar contributions to the West Flex Start and Van Buren Flex Start, as well as putting $750 toward the Syracuse Open!
As of this moment, we've got 97 players signed up for the event tomorrow with one spot open at 2 p.m.:
https://www.discgolfscene.com/tournaments/Clay_East_Flex_Start_Sponsored_by_Rapid_Rivers_Disc_Golf_2022.
As a reminder, registration for the Clay West Flex Start is open (
https://www.discgolfscene.com/tournaments/Clay_West_Flex_Start_Sponsored_by_Rapid_Rivers_Disc_Golf_2022/registration). The Van Buren Flex Start (3/22) and Syracuse Open (4/1) open up soon.
Here's everything you need to know for your round tomorrow:
I'll be set up at the pavilion by the Wetzel Road parking lot. Please arrive at least 20 minutes before your tee time to check in, pick up your disc if you're an am, and take a look at the merchandise and coffee being sold by RRDG. You'll also be able to buy into the ace pool (sitting at $315 now!), pay for your CNYDGA membership and purchase Syracuse Open fundraiser discs.
For those unfamiliar with Clay, you'll be able to warm up on West 6-10. Then plan to be at Hole 1 on East a couple of minutes before your tee time. We all understand it's going to be slow moving considering the conditions so please start promptly, keep up a reasonable pace, look for lost discs (and call for three minutes if needed), etc. It looks like we're going to get some showers in the afternoon so keeping on track in the morning will be important in preventing backups later on.
One player on every card will need to take care of live scoring. To access your scorecard, please go to pdga.com/score and use the code 'eastflex.' It's strongly encouraged that another player on the card keeps a backup, which can be done on PDGA/UDisc/paper.
There is no OB on the course, which is playing in its standard layout. Any standing water plays as casual relief, meaning you have the option take your mark back, in the line of play, to the nearest dry point. You can also always re-throw from the same lie with a one-stroke penalty. We are not playing with the two-meter rule.
Amateur divisions are trophy only with all winners taking home a trophy, as well as second- and third-place finishers in divisions of 10 or more. Ryan Appleton will be making personalized, full-sized wooden discs that I will get to winners after the event.
Here are the projected pro payouts:
MPO (15 players)
$150
$100
$65
$50
$40
$25
FPO (2)
$60
I think that just about covers it, but please feel free to reach out if you have any questions. And thanks again to everyone who's helped support the event!
