Hey everyone,
I hope you're ready for the CNYDGA's first sanctioned event of the season tomorrow! I know I am.
First, a HUGE thank you to our sponsors! Meier's Creek Brewing Company is the title sponsor for the entire Syracuse Open flex start series and has gone above and beyond in recent years to support the local disc golf community. Rapid Rivers will be on hand vending (including coffee!) tomorrow as well as at Clay West (4/8) and Van Buren (5/26). And Eagle Tavern pitched in to support the East Flex -- be sure to head around the corner for food and drink after your round tomorrow!
Course conditions: The snow has been steadily melting all day. As of 6 p.m., the fairways were packed down (some to the point of getting mushy). Snow depth ranged from 3-8 inches off the fairway, though it's all very heavy from the rain. The vast majority of shots are staying on top.
Still, spotting is strongly encouraged. I'll have volunteers out to help with as many of the blind shots as possible, but cards would be wise to send someone forward when there isn't help in place. For those who haven't played much winter golf, the easiest way for a group to spot is for the last player on the box to go toward the landing zone, uncover the first shot(s), and then switch spots with someone who's already thrown.
Ribbons are allowed. If anyone on the card is throwing with a ribbon, I'd recommend that they throw first before spotting for the rest of the card.
In the case of a lost disc, all players must start searching immediately. At that time, a three-minute clock should be started. If the disc is not found, the player who lost their disc must go to their previous lie and re-throw with a one-stroke penalty.
Nobody wants this to happen, but it must to keep the pace of play steady. Please pay attention to all of the throws on your card and utilize spotters.
All players must check in at least 15 minutes before their tee time. I'll be set up at the pavilion off the Wetzel Road lot. Amateurs can pick up their players packs. Cash buy-ins for the ace pot will be taken (it's already over $400!).
The CNYDGA will have a 50/50 raffle going to raise funds for the expansion at Oxbow. The plan is to add a nine-hole loop between 13 and 14. Cash and PayPal accepted. I'll draw a ticket live on CNY Disc Golf after all of the rounds wrap up.
We'll also be holding the Meier's Creek precision challenge with all registered players getting one throw off the amphitheater toward a marked target. Land inside the flags and winana MCBC custom-stamped disc or beer of your choice (while supplies last).
All cards will be responsible for keeping live score through the PDGA. Either download the app or go to:
https://www.pdga.com/score.
The event password is 'marchmudness'
All OB is marked with pink flags and listed on the PDGA live scoring: These all play standard (take up to one meter in any direction from where your shot went out with a one-stroke penalty; no drop zones).
Hole 6: OB ditch long and beyond
Hole 11: OB ditches. The walkway over the drainage that connects the ditches is in bounds.
Hole 18: OB ditch
CTPs for the day:
Hole 7: MVP Black Hole Pro (all amateurs)
Hole 9: $25 CTP (all pros)
Hole 13: $25 CTP (all pros)
I think that covers it, but don't hesitate to reach out with questions or concerns. Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow!
