FIRE & Hwy 199 UPDATE

The fire situation is improving everyday and Hwy 199 is now OPEN to all traffic. However, an 11-mile segment—currently between Sandy Beach (near milepost 21) and Oregon Mountain Road (near milepost 31)—has one-way, piloted traffic control. Delays up to 45 minutes are possible. The piloted segment will expand or contract as crews repair the burned guardrails, clear rocks off the roadway, and remove hazard trees.

Smoke and Air Quality:
Low levels of smoke are expected until firing operations commence later this week. A daily Smoke Outlook that includes air quality information is available here: tinyurl.com/yb29zy6f.

With the installed generators supplying Del Norte County with power, there is still the potential for routine outages caused by interference with our equipment by birds, animals, or vegetation. In the event of a generator failure, Pacific Power has contingency plans in place to quickly restore power to customers. Customers who experience an outage are advised to contact Pacific Power Customer Service at 877-508-5088.

In preparation for the continued closure of Hwy 199 our disc golf neighbors to the Northeast may want to consider the Hwy 42 detour (see tournament pictures section). We are hoping Hwy 199 opens before September 9th but I will update everyone as we draw closer to the event. Furthermore, the air quality in Crescent City continues to be unfavorable in the morning but steadily improves throughout the day to almost unnoticeable levels by noon. In any case prepare for smokey conditions. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through this natural disaster.

SMITH RIVER COMPLEX FIRE NOTICE

As some of you may know Northern California is on fire causing a multiple day full-blown power outage for the County of Del Norte. Thankfully most of the tournament preparation has been completed and we anticipate no tournament interruption, however if anything changes I will update when possible.
