When will tee times be posted?

Adam Luthman   May 21, 2021 at 12:33pm

Tee times will be posted along with a player's guide email this evening before 8 PM.

With the lift on social distancing requirements will spectators be allowed? My wife was hoping to come watch.

Matthew Halton Smith   May 18, 2021 at 1:49am

Unfortunately, the University requirements are still in effect regardless of the Governor's mandate.

What layout will be played?

Adam Luthman   May 17, 2021 at 3:01pm

The current basket layout is the tournament layout. We will use the same teepads for all divisions, using long pads on holes 3 and 11.

Bradley Reynolds    May 12, 2021 at 9:04pm

Do you know when tee times will be decided for Saturday? We are coming in from out of town and need to know if we need accommodations for Friday night or if we can drive in that morning.

Hey Bradley, MA2 should be teeing between 9:30 am and 11:30 AM. We should have more details posted shortly along with the official tee times for each player.

Adam Luthman   May 14, 2021 at 4:01pm

Below is the tentative divisional tee time schedule. We will have individual player tee times posted near the middle of next week along with the player's guide and OB rules. All cards will be 3 or 4 people, caddies and spectators WILL NOT be allowed (except for where required for junior players) and tee times will be spaced 12 minutes apart throughout the day. Tentative tee times are as follows

Adam Luthman   May 14, 2021 at 4:04pm

MJ18 8:00 (1 card) - FA1 8:12-8:24 (2 cards) - MA50 8:36-9:00 (3 cards) - MA40 9:12-9:24 (2 cards) - MA2 9:36-11:24 (10 cards) - MA1 11:36-1:12 (9 cards) - FPO 1:24-1:36 (2 cards) - MP40 1:48-2:36 (5 cards) - MPO 2:48-3:48 (6 cards)

Is everyone playing the long pads?

Notice I am showing listed in intermediate on DG Scene, but not on PDGA (84941). I assume I am good to go?

We remedied this issue, not sure what caused it but you're good to go!

I am sorry, but I have to withdraw. Please approve my refund request. Something has come up and I can't come.

ALL Ams: Make sure to EDIT your current registration, and not reregister for the event! If you want to purchase an additional shirt, use the general registration Polo option. Be aware that shirt sizes 2XL and above will require an additional fee (~$2, ~$5, etc as the shirt size increases)

Bradley Reynolds   April 27, 2021 at 6:17pm

This sounds awesome! Is there going to be a logo on the front of the polo and then the custom writing will go on the back? If so what color is the logo?

Matthew Halton Smith   April 27, 2021 at 8:00pm

Brixx Pizza and Kirsch Lending logos on the front breast, Carolina Disc Golf Club Logo on the back, Innova Disc Golf Logo on one sleeve, and player personalization on the other sleeve.

Matthew Halton Smith   April 27, 2021 at 8:01pm

For contrast, dark shirts will have white ink, light color shirts will have black ink for the screen printing

Hello Everyone,

On behalf of Brixx Wood Fired Pizza, Kirsch Lending, the Carolina Disc Golf Club and CO-TD Adam Luthman, I want to congratulate and welcome all of you on your successful registration for the 20th Annual Tar Heel Open! It took a lot of work and compromise to plan and execute the event this year in a manner that would abide by all of the University COVID requirements. We have had to make some concessions in order to hold the event, specifically the total number of people allowe ... more

Will all divisions play the same layout? I’m specifically interested in new hole 3. Will the flagged long pad be played? Or just the shorter concrete pad?

Blaine Kiser   April 27, 2021 at 11:26am

From My understanding practice hole three from the long flagged layout and that should be the teepad for the tourtament.

Matthew Halton Smith   April 27, 2021 at 3:57pm

We are discussing this currently and will have a final determination soon. We would love to use the long tee, but want to make sure that the tee pad will be up to tour standards for the event.

Marc Sobota   April 27, 2021 at 8:03pm

I appreciate the response, thanks Matt.

Matthew Brune    April 25, 2021 at 3:52pm

Would it be possible to be switched from the waitlist of MA1 to MA2?

Collin Murphy    April 22, 2021 at 6:07pm

I sent a request for a refund. Just realized I have a prior arrangement that conflicts with the event

Matthew Halton Smith   April 22, 2021 at 6:26pm

Thanks Collin, we will process.

Matthew Halton Smith    April 13, 2021 at 6:19pm

Due to a previously overlooked schedule conflict, Registration will open tonight (Tues April 13) at 8:30pm, instead of the the previously scheduled 8pm. This is because of the Greater Raleigh Open DGS registration scheduled for 8pm. We apologize for the ongoing delays in registration, but want to allow players the opportunity to register for both events, and not have to decide which one to prioritize and risk (likely) missing out on the other event.

With the speed to which tournaments fill within this area and the growth of women playing, it is discouraging to see only 16 out of 144 spots head for women.

Adam Luthman   April 13, 2021 at 11:49am

We looked at a lot of previous tournaments to inform us in setting divisional caps. We actually reserved 20 slots for women, which is higher than many tournaments we looked at (most kept it at or below 10% of the field). I assure you we did our best to balance the divisions based on the demand we an ... more

With the pre-registration, I have seen that there appear to be caps for different divisions. What is the total number of players for the event? What is the cap number for FA1?

Kenneth Tyburski   April 12, 2021 at 1:45pm

On the "Registered Players" tab for the event, you can see the caps. It looks like FA1 is capped at 8 for now.

Matthew Halton Smith   April 13, 2021 at 12:29pm

We now have 28 female spots: 8 FPO, 8 FA1, 8 FA2, 4 FJ18

Adam Luthman    April 12, 2021 at 1:24am

Due to the overwhelming response and interest, we have decided to open this priority registration period to an additional 5 people with the stipulation that they also register as a hole sponsor for the tournament (each hole is $100 and we will be in touch about sponsorship sign details). If this option is something that interests you, please email me ([email redacted]) and Matt Smith ([email redacted]) and I will provide you with the access code. Thank you to the individuals who reached out to serve as our first 5 hole sponsors! As of this morning (Monday), all early hole sponsorships have been filled. General registration will open as planned tomorrow (Tuesday) evening at 8 PM.

I would like to extend a huge thank you to our title sponsors, Brixx Pizza and Kirsch Lending, as well as our first 5 hole sponsors Bobby Henn, Ken Tyburski, Logan Staton, Austin Peterman, and Jeffrey Stinson. Matt and I appreciate everyone's support and patience as we prepare for this event!

Thank you everyone for your tremendous interest in the 2021 Tar Heel! I want to apologize for any confusion and the changes in registration timeline. We just received event approval from University administration last week and Adam and I have been hustling to try to open the doors tonight. Sorry for the confusion everyone. General registration will open this Tuesday at 8 PM.

Tonight's registration was reserved for our title sponsors, but don't worry! There will only be a few people in that category and plenty of spots will be available for general registration on Tuesday evening.
