The Nunez Ranch Presentes the Whistlers Bend Doubles Shootout supported by Innova
Official Player Guide
Welcome: Hi everyone! It’s Whistlers Doubles week and we could not be more excited to get to spend a few days at our favorite place in the world. I want to first thank you all for signing up for this event, the players truly make it as special as it is. Secondly, I want to give a big thank you to our tee sign sponsors, CTP sponsors and to the Nunez Ranch for stepping up this year to be the title sponsor and a thank you to Innova for the hookup with some sweet player pack discs. Lastly, a big thank you to our event team and everyone that showed up to the work party last weekend to get the course in tip top shape. The amount of volunteer hours that go into making this event happen start long before tournament week, so thank you to all who help make Whistlers Dubs as special as it is.
WE KNOW THIS IS A LONG EMAIL BUT PLEASE READ IT FULLY. THERE IS A LOT OF INFORMATION IN HERE THAT IS IMPORTANT FOR ALL PLAYERS TO KNOW.
Format
As you know, this event is three rounds of 27 holes and will test every skill you have on the disc golf course.
-Friday: All players will play 27 holes of Best Shot
-Saturday: All AM Divisions, FPO and MP50 will play Alternate Shot for holes 1-9, Best Shot for holes 10-18 and Worst Shot for holes 19-27. Formats explained below. All MPO and MP40 teams play 27 holes of worst shot. The format for each hole is listed on the tee signs.
-Sunday: All players will play 27 holes of Best Shot
-Best Shot: Both team members tee off, you pick the best shot and both team members play from there. There are no splitting lies, you must decide on a lie as a team to play from. Once one member of that team holes out, the hole is over.
-Alternate Shot: On hole one, teams must decide who will tee off first. Each team plays one disc out per hole. Player one tees off, wherever it goes, player two throws from there. If player two fails to make it in the basket, player one then plays from wherever the shot ended up. Once a player makes the putt, the hole is over. At no time in this format do both players throw from a lie. Player one will tee off on holes one, three, five, seven and nine. Player two will tee off on holes two, four, six and eight.
Note: Because we have so many CTP’s out. The player on each team who is not the one teeing off for the alternate shot hole is allowed to throw a “just for fun” drive to try to win the CTP. That player must declare the throw will not to be used for play and is just to try to win the CTP prize before they throw. That throw is immediately picked up when the team plays the hole, if that throw comes to rest closer to the pin than the current CTP marker, put your name on it and mark the lie before picking up that disc.
-Worst Shot: Both team members tee off, the team you are playing with then gets to decide which shot is hardest lie and you must play from there. DO NOT BE NICE TO THE TEAM YOU ARE PLAYING WITH! Make them take the harder lie. It is worst shot for the entire hole, not just the drive. Once one team member makes a putt, the hole is over. No need for both members to make the putt. For CTP’s during this format, you do not have to play from the lie to win a CTP. If player one on your team parks the hole close enough to win a CTP, but then player two hits the first tree, you will have to play from player two’s lie, but player one’s shot can still count for CTP prizes.
A very important part of worst shot is pace of play, MPO and MP40, I’m talking to you… last year the worst shot round took over 6 hours, if that happens again, that format will be removed from this event moving forward. If it is obvious which lie is worse, just go to it, we all know what we are doing. If there is a decision that needs to be made, ask the other team you are with. Be honest but play fast PLEASE!!!
Schedule
All starting times and hole assignments are posted on the PDGA event page at
https://www.pdga.com/tour/event/101052
Save this link! This event is not actually a PDGA event and it will not show up on the event schedule but we are using PDGA live scoring/digital scorecard. You will need this link to access your hole assignments each evening and to watch scores. Feel free to share it with friends and family who might be keeping up on how you are doing.
Round 1 hole assignments will be posted by 5:00pm on Wednesday. There is no perfect world to keep everyone playing with only their division, but we did the best we could. Tournament staff will not take requests for groups.
Hole assignments are subject to change if we have teams drop out. If we move your hole assignment due to a drop out, I will send you an email personally to update you.
Hole assignments for round 2 and 3 will be posted on the PDGA event page as quickly as I can get them done after the evening round each day. Rounds can take a while so please expect them to be posted around 8:00pm each evening. All rounds are SHOTGUN start, so please make sure you are at your hole on time. If you somehow get to a hole and the other team does not show up, you must join the group in front or behind you. Do not make a group of more than three teams. If a team is late, they will be assessed par plus four shots until they show up. At that point, if you need to break back off into the original groups please do so. Just please don’t miss your starting times and if you know your team is not coming back for a round, give us as much notice as possible so we can rearrange things as a tournament staff.

Players Packs
All AM players will receive a Whistlers Dubs Custom Hat, Fully sublimated Whisters Dubs Custom Jersey, Two Innova Discs, a custom wooden mini with team/player names and a snack pack with some goodies in it. AM players, you should have selected a shirt size at sign-ups. You will get that size and then Saturday if you know you need a different size you can come find me and see if we have others available to trade them out (shirts must be unworn to switch them out). Our first responsibility is to get everyone the size they put down, you will not be allowed to switch your shirt size out during check in. If your partner signed you up and put the wrong size down.. I’m sorry.
Pros will also get a custom event mini also!
Note: Any teams that got added after May 15th from the waitlist will not have custom minis.
Scoring
We will use PDGA live scoring for this event. All teams are required to do this. If you really don’t have access to a phone, we will have paper backup cards but don’t be that person! Just do live scoring, if you’ve ever run an event, live scoring saves us HOURS of time at the end of each evening.
Scoring Instructions
1. Have one player from each team go to
www.pdga.com/score
2. Type in the access code: DUBS26
3. Type in your name or PDGA number
4. The website should have all the players names already loaded up, if it doesn’t, have that person search and add names by PDGA number or Last Name.
5. Hit keep score Round 1 (or 2 or 3)
6. Click begin play
7. Keep score
8. At the end of the round, make sure all cards match and all players need to check and verify their scores. Once scores are submitted, they are official, and any errors will result in a two-stroke penalty per PDGA rules.
9. Finalize and submit the scorecard. If you do this correctly you don’t need to turn anything into tournament staff. Please do not forget this step.
10. These steps can also be done using the PDGA Live App. If you have not already downloaded this app, it really does make life easier for tournament days.
This works the same as singles events for PDGA. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO LIVE SCORING. It will make our organization and turnaround time minutes instead of hours. There is now WIFI in both campgrounds at the park, if you have bad cell service at Whistlers, please start that scorecard in a campground area, once it is loaded and started, you don’t need service to do the scoring. You only need cell service/WIFI to start and finalize your scorecard. Probably not the best idea if you don’t have service to try to refresh your internet browser of PDGA app. The scorecard will keep up even if you don’t have cell service for a few minutes.
WIFI
Both the upper and lower campgrounds now have WIFI which is Whistlers Bend Guest. The password is dcparks2023. Remember, if you have poor cell service please use this to start and finalize your card! Once you start it, you don’t need service again until you are finalizing it.
CTP Prizes
We currently have 22 holes in rounds 1 and 2 that will have CTP prizes on them. It is possible that we end up adding more prizes, but likely we will just make the prize packs bigger if more CTP donations come in. There are certain CTP packages I don’t have in my possession yet, if they have committed to a prize and it doesn’t show up, we will do our best to replace it, but if not, I will simply cross it off on the tee sign with a sharpie. The flags/CTP markers will stay out for the first two days.
There will be no CTP’s in round 3 as all players end at different times and we want to make sure you go home with your prize without having to wait around until the final PRO groups finish on Sunday. All CTP packages this year have a minimum value of $75, but most if not all will exceed that by quite a bit. If you win a CTP prize, you can pick it up at tournament central Sunday at the times listed above.
We are not shipping prizes; you must pick it up Sunday if you win one. We will put a list out before rounds begin Sunday with who the winner is for each hole.
CURRENTLY WE HAVE OVER $3400 (retail value) IN CTP PRIZES TO BE HANDED OUT! These are all donations, zero entry fee money was used to purchase or fund CTP prizes.
You will be able to find a full list of CTP Prizes on the Event Facebook page by Wednesday morning. Each tee sign will have the prize listed on it as well.
Hole 7: $500 Cash CTP
This is a $500 cash CTP, for this hole specifically you need to fully fill out the CTP marker sheet if you are the closest to the pin and get to move the flag. This will include your name, team name, what disc you used, the distance you are from the pole and someone from the team you are playing against needs to write their name as a witness that you measured the shot.
YOU MUST MEASURE THE DISTANCE THAT THE FRONT OF YOUR DISC IS AWAY FROM THE BASE OF THE POLE FOR THIS CTP. THERE WILL BE A TAPE MEASURE PROVIDED. If any step is missed in recording your CTP on this hole, your entry will be voided, and the next best shot will be awarded the prize. NO EXCEPTIONS. FILL IT OUT CORRECTLY. If somehow multiple people ace the hole and tie for the CTP the prize will be split between the two.
Parking
Parking will be something the parks department is picky about. You are not allowed to park on any grass at Whistlers Bend. If the top parking lot is full, your second option is down by hole 25/26 in the provided parking spaces. We do not have the group campsites reserved. DO NOT PARK IN THAT AREA, other people have paid to reserve the group campsites, they are not tournament players. Because this is a shotgun start event, parking in other provided areas closer to your starting hole such as by the boat ramp is a great idea. If you are starting on anything close to 13-16 you may park on the gravel but PLEASE do not park where a backhand drive can hit your car on 15. I will put no parking signs up and hope they don’t get moved or ignored. Anyone starting on 5-9 please park at the boat ramp if you can.
It is possible we get overflow parking on the side of 27’s fairway but that is unconfirmed at this point. If you are camping, please just leave your car in your campsite, if you are not camping, but have friends that are maybe try to squeeze your car into their site during your rounds without blocking the driving paths for cars/RV’s.
Camping
Please be respectful of all Douglas County and Whistlers Bend Park rules. Respect the fact that there are non-disc golfers also camping at the park and you need to observe quiet hour rules the best you can. Please keep the campground in the same or better shape as when you arrive so we have the ability to keep running events of this size at Whistlers Bend. Also, please make sure all your extra vehicle fees are paid and be nice to the camp hosts out there. They are awesome people who are totally on our side for running events like this.
If you did not book the campsite for Sunday night, you will need to check out of the site before your rounds on Sunday. There could be people who have reserved those sites after you for the next evening, tournament staff have nothing to do with camping reservations, but we expect all players to follow the rules and guidelines set by the parks department. If the camp hosts come to us and let us know you have been an issue and have been breaking Douglas County Camping rules/regulations, we reserve the right to remove your team from the event. Please, have fun but be respectful of other people who are camping around you.
Player Courtesy
We expect players to behave and keep the tournament experience of others in mind. If you get to the point where your behavior (alcohol influenced or not) is impacting other players or park user’s ability to enjoy their weekend, we as tournament staff reserve the right to remove your team from the event. This can be during tournament play or non-tournament play such as camping quiet times. Please do not put us in that situation. Have fun, enjoy yourselves but keep the attitudes and behavior positive. There are no open flames at Whistlers outside of designated fire pits. Two summers ago we almost lost the whole park due to a fire caused by a drone racing event at the park. Please follow all local and state laws when it comes to your behavior in the park. Players are allowed to have alcohol during rounds for this event, but please keep the playing experience of others in mind.
Hole Rules
All hole rules will be on the tee signs and in the PDGA live scoring page. It’s pretty simple at Whistlers but here are the basics.
Hole rules always in effect at Whistlers
-On/Over any road you don’t have to cross is OB
-On any paved road or parking lot is OB
-In the river is OB
-Over any painted line is OB
SPECIAL HOLE RULES
-Holes 5, 7 and 13 have drop zones painted. Any drive that goes OB on those holes plays from the drop zone. Any shots after the drive play standard OB. If you throw your drive over the cliff on 5 or 7, please wait until after the round to go get it. Do not try to climb down the hill.
-Hole 14 will have an OB line painted near the edge of the cliff also but there is no drop zone, this hole is standard OB rules. Again, please do not try to climb down that cliff to get your disc.
-There are three mando’s on the course, holes 1, 20 and 25, please read the tee signs and live scoring for the details.
TEE PADS
We will be playing the SHORT/NEW tee on hole 25 all weekend. Just walk down the road instead of taking the trail to the normal tee and you’ll see it. It is only 15 feet or so from the road.
ROUND 1- MPO and MP40 will play the top tee pad on hole 15. All other divisions play the normal tee pad. Rounds 2-3 everyone plays the normal tee pad.
MANDATORY RELIEF AREAS
A few holes on the front 10 have ditches on them that have been dug by Douglas County Parks. In the case of hole 6 and 10, these are in the way. They will have spray painted lines around them with a drop zone next to the relief area. If your team ends up in those areas, take free relief but you must play from the drop zone. They are ditches that are roughly 15’ long, 4’ wide and up to 6’ deep. Please be careful and do not fall in them. You can safely walk down into them from one side of each ditch, but we don’t want people playing from them. If you happen to find one of these areas that we don’t paint (which would be impressive) please take free relief directly behind the ditch.
Payouts
All pro payouts will be sent via Paypal the week after the event concludes. The AM side of the event is players pack/ trophies only. If you need the payout sent to a different PayPal than what you signed up with, please let me know. If we don’t have two PayPal addresses for a team, we will send it all to one player and they will be responsible to get it to their teammate.
Trophies will be handed out directly following your rounds on Sunday.
AM Divisions- 1st-3rd Place Trophies
Pro Divisions- 1st Place Only Trophies
Dropouts
Following our refund policy, no refunds will be given at this point unless there is a waitlist team to fill that spot. In that case teams get $100 of their entry back. Basically, don’t drop out!
If a team has a player drop out during the event, you will be allowed to fill the spot with another player as long as they are eligible for that division for injury reasons only. It cannot be someone already playing on a different team. For best shot rounds, teams can play with only one player, but that player only gets one shot, it is NOT Cali rules. It is simply singles. A team WILL NOT be allowed to play the round 2 worst/alternate/best shot round (or all worst for MPO/MP40) without both teammates there. It will be a DNF and the team is removed from the competition.
Water/Hydration
We will have water jugs on the course and do our best to keep them full, but please plan on bringing your own water. The extended forecast shows temperatures in the 80’s for the weekend. There is also a water fountain attached to the bathrooms on hole 18 assuming it is working. Water jugs will be filled every 2:00-2:30 hours throughout the day by VOLUNTEERS, so please be nice to them. Water jugs will be on holes 11 and 15. People have enjoyed wandering off with our water jugs (Stealing them) in the past from the park so if you see any non-disc golfers near them, please say something nicely to them. There is also a new water spicket next to the new bathroom between 11-20’s tees.
If a water jug is empty, please text 541-404-5141 and let us know.
Vending: Anthony H. will be on site all weekend with the full Innova Tour set-up vending discs! Bring some extra money with you to look through all his goodies. This is the same set up that travels to all the DGPT events across the country.
