Thank you for signing up to play the 2025 CNYDGA Ice Bowl at Sullivan Park! We're embracing the "No Wimps, No Whiners" tagline fully this year and are going to enjoy a great day for a great cause regardless of the conditions. We're raising money for the Food Bank of CNY and Sullivan Food Cupboard once again after bringing in $5,200 last year!
Thank you to our sponsors! Play It Again Sports Syracuse donated $200 in store credit while our hole sponsors are Eric Trippany, KC Cummings, David Fixler, Jim & Mistie West!
A few priority reminders for those without the attention span to read the full email... bring something for the potluck, bring something for the raffle, use spotters and/or ribbons and bring extra putters for mulligans!!!
Here's what you need to know:
Shovelers/snow golf
We're looking for additional help shoveling the pads before the round tomorrow. Eric Trippany will be leading the charge at 8 a.m. Please see him in the parking lot or on the course if you arrive later than that. A HUGE thank you to Jeff and Carletta Darling for clearing Holes 1-6 (whites and reds) earlier today! The more hands we have tomorrow, the easier it'll be.
Players should expect six to eight inches of snow on the course with deeper patches. There'll be a fluffy layer on top and then heavy, thicker snow beneath. Wear boots. While playing, everyone should be watching every shot on the card. Ribbons are allowed and spotting is heavily encouraged -- especially for blind and downhill shots. Any non-players in attendance should be encouraged to spot as often as possible.
Please keep disc search times reasonable, especially when there is a card waiting on the previous tee.
Potluck
Zack Parsell will be our crockpot coordinator this year. See him in the park building at check-in to get your dish set up and labeled. We have extension cords as well as paper products and utensils. Snacks and such can go on the shelves/to the side to maximize counter space.
Jeff Gilbert will be creating an online poll for best dish and will email out the link during the round. You can vote there or manually on his tablet after chowing down.
Best dish wins a 2025 CNYDGA membership, your pick of Ice Bowl merch and a $25 gift card to Play It Again Sports Syracuse! Ice Bowl prizes for second and third as well.
Scoring
We will be doing paper scoring this year as UDisc doesn't quite support our format. Mark down your hole scores and mulligans, then tally everything up at the end and hand the card in to me, Jeff, Zack or a volunteer assistant.
As a reminder, here is the format -- a combination of best-shot doubles and combined-score singles:
MPO, MA2, MA3: All players tee off from the long (white) tees. On holes with one basket, each team plays best-shot doubles. On holes with two baskets, everyone plays singles. One player on each team must hole out on the short basket (yellow) and one on the long basket (blue). Nobody needs to call a basket at the tee and you can switch strategies post-drive.
Mixed: Women tee off from the reds. Otherwise, the format is the same: On holes with one basket, each team plays best-shot doubles. On holes with two baskets, everyone plays singles. One player on each team must hole out on the short basket (yellow) and one on the long basket (blue).
The scorecard itself will be set up as singles with both players on a team receiving the score they take on a best-shot doubles hole. Individual totals will then be added together for a total team score.
Mulligans
Unlimited $1 mulligans for MA2, MA3 and Mixed divisions. Each MPO player gets a maximum of 10 $2 mulligans to use over the course of the round.
Please pay for your mulligans when turning in your card. It helps to receive all of the cash payments from a card at the same time, if possible.
Raffle
The raffle will feature an MVP basket (donated by Trip), a signed Simon Lizotte Envy (Evan Lloyd) and a Paul McBeth twofter - PMF Venmo and signed mini (Josh Noga)! Thanks fellas!
Please bring something new/unused to contribute (it doesn't have to be disc golf-related). Buy your tickets early and often! 100% of proceeds go to the donation total.
