OFFICIAL PLAYERS MEETING: THIS HAS BEEN EMAILED TO ALL PLAYERS
It's officially Santiam Open week and we could not be more excited to bring you this event for the ninth year in a row! A big thank you to the Santiam Golf Club for hosting the event and please let the staff know that we appreciate it when we are out there Sunday.
This is your official players meeting and all players are responsible for all information on this email and in the attached documents.
Things to know:
SCHEDULE:
Check in will be from 8:15-9:00am inside the restaurant area. All players are required to check in at this time. Round 1 Tee Time will be 9:30am. Please do not arrive at the golf course before 8:00am. You’ll end up just sitting in the parking lot waiting to be let inside. See Next Paragraph….
WEATHER NOTE/STARTING TIME NOTE: Due to the freezing temperatures this week/projected for this weekend, we are making the decision ahead of time to push the tee time back to 9:30am. This is in consideration with the conversations we have had with the golf course staff. We can’t be on the course until at least the fairways have thawed out. Please, do not go on the course to warm up until we have the go head from the golf course. This is their property and very common at golf courses to not let players on while the ground is still frozen due to the damage it can cause to their course. Under no circumstance are players to walk on a golf green that is frozen. If you happen to throw your disc onto one, just leave it until lunch, the last thing we want to do is ruin the right to use this property. If you want to warm up before we are allowed on the course, you can go in the driving range and throw against the net. We will try to have a couple warm up baskets on the pavement outside the club house as well. AGAIN: PLEASE DON’T GO OUT ON THE COURSE TO WARM UP UNTIL WE HAVE GIVEN ALL PLAYERS THE GO AHEAD.
PDGA EVENT: This is a PDGA B Tier and as such, all PDGA rules are in effect.
PLAYERS PACK: Amateur players will get their players pack at check in which will consist of a custom run of Clash Berry (sweet throwing straight midrange) and the players choice of Innova Halo/Champion Halo disc. You will also get a custom Santiam Open umbrella, although it looks unlikely that you will need it this weekend!
FLIGHTS/COURSE ASSIGNMENTS: This will be a little different than years past. We have made some slight course changes with some adjusted tee pads to make the course more fun for non-MP divisions.
FPO/FA1/MA1/MA2/MA40/MA50 will start on the Resistance Discs Course for Round 1 and then play the Innova Course for Round 2.
MPO/MP40/MP50 will start on the Innova Course for Round 1 and then move to the Resistance Discs Course for Round 2.
You will see two sets/colors of flags out for tee pads. The actual tee signs will be moved to the appropriate pad each round, we will move them at lunch for both courses. Just in case though if you see two pink flags, that is the FPO/FA1/MA1/MA2/MA40/MA50 tee pads. If you see two white flags, that is the MPO/MP40/MP50 tee pads. For holes where both flights share a tee pad, you will see one pink and one white flag.
The idea to making some changes to tee pads is for fun/appropriate distance challenges. We wanted to make some small changes that allow players in divisions that don’t typically throw as far to be able to either reach par 3’s (we understand not all players will be able to reach every hole even with the changes) or to have their drives on par 4’s/5’s end up in a position where players have a better chance of getting a birdie putt. The challenge will still be there for the holes as the changes will be between 30-70 feet for most adjusted tee pads with larger changes coming on really long par 4’s/5’s. Do not expect par 3’s under 350’ to be adjusted, this will still be a long layout with plenty of chances to throw those distance drivers! We are not losing what Santiam Open courses play like traditionally, instead trying to make it a bit more fun for all players.
LIVE SCORING: Live scoring password is Santiam
All players are required to keep score. I highly suggest downloading the PDGA Live app. If not, simply go to
www.pdga.com/score and log in from there. As you are all PDGA members for this event, I assume everyone knows how to do this. We will have paper cards upon request but highly encourage people to do live scoring so we can have quick turnaround at lunch. Please do not submit your scorecards after the round until all cards in your group match.
If there are any rules questions, you are now able to take a picture and show the TD’s at lunch.
COURSES: The Innova Course will have the DGA Mach 7 Baskets and a Innova Logo on the tee signs with a blue/green background. The Resistance Discs Course will have the Red Discraft Chainstar Pro Baskets and have the Resistance Discs Logo on the tee sign with a grey/white background.
OB: The OB Ponds/Mando Restricted Line flags will be orange while the Drop Zone Flags for all mando’s and the couple OB Drop Zones will be Green. For holes that say Cart Path/Over use your best judgement as a group to if a player is fully on the cart path or not. If you have to dig, they are safe. Obviously on these holes if it says Cart Path/Over, anything past the cart path is out. Moving water from the creek, even if it is flooded and above what you could normally consider the creek line is OB, we shouldn’t have an issue this year with no rain the last couple weeks.
LUNCH BREAK: This will be short, but lunch will be provided to all players free of charge. Sounds like it will be hot dogs, chips and a soda/water. Lunch is for PLAYERS ONLY! Your caddies/significant others will need to bring their own lunch with them. We have a set number of lunches ordered, if your caddy takes a lunch, that means a player goes without. You will be given a raffle ticket in the morning at check in to turn in for your lunch. If you don’t want a hot dog/chips for lunch, you need to plan on bringing your own. Due to the restaurant not being open at this time, there is no vegetarian option. See more below in “Other Notes”.
ROUND 2: Starting time and hole assignments will be on the PDGA event page as soon as possible after Round 1 is complete. We are likely looking at a 35 to 40 minute lunch break from the time the last card comes in. With the later start time and sunset being roughly 5:10pm, it will be a quick lunch turn around so please do not leave the property.
AWARDS: After Round 2, awards will happen pretty quickly. Trophies will be handed out for in accordance to the new PDGA trophy guidelines in all amateur divisions and first place only for pro divisions. Pro payout will be via paypal and will go out Monday after the event.
TROPHIES- This event will follow the new PDGA guidelines for number of trophies given out listed below. The cutoff for determining how many trophies to make is this Sunday. Adds/Drops past that point won't impact how many trophies are given out per division. Pro divisions will be first place only trophies.
C. Each division must pay out a minimum number of trophies as listed below. TDs may offer more trophies than the minimum at their discretion. For the purposes of acquiring and awarding trophies, TDs may specify a cutoff date for determining how many trophies each division will get, so long as that date is no more than two weeks prior to the start of competition.1. One player: no trophy required. 2. 2-4 players: 1st place only.3. 5-12 players: 1st and 2nd place.4. 13+ players: 1st through 3rd place.
Any ties will be played off for first place only as soon as possible when scores have been turned in. All playoffs will be played on the course that division plays second and will play holes 1 and 18 in that order, on repeat until we have a winner.
Since we are only using holes 1 and 18 on each course for the playoff, if groups finishing on other holes could do us a huge favor, please grab your basket and tee sign and either bring it back to the club house or move it as close to a cart path as possible, that would be awesome! These temp courses take a long time to set up and tear down and we know we will be battling daylight a little bit.
HOLE RULES & MAPS:
All hole rules will be on the form attached to this email. Please read them over and save a picture of them to your phone. These hole rules will also match what is on the PDGA Live Scoring pages.
We anticipate the maps being accurate at this point but you never know in the winter so if the course has flooding for any reason, you could see slight changes. Distances on holes are approximate, please use your own range finder to get an exact distance on everything.
COURSE CONDITIONS:
We know the last month in Oregon has been all over the place weather wise. We are going to have as many tee pads as we can be on cart paths, with the option to tee off from the side of the path also if you want. There will be a handful of natural grass tee pads in raised areas where standing water should not be an issue. It will be a really good idea to make sure you have waterproof shoes or socks for the day. If at any point, your discs is fully surrounded by casual standing water, you may move it back in a straight line away from the basket to the nearest point of relief with no penalty.
Right now, it looks cold and clear for the weekend… It is likely to be under freezing temperatures when we arrive in the morning and get to the mid 40’s with a bit of wind in the afternoon. Please remember to layer up and be prepared for a bit of cold weather.
TD’s- Cayleigh Withers will be the non-playing certified official/assistant TD for this event. If you have questions about something that happens during the round please bring it to our attention during lunch or after the round. If you have someone drop out during the round, please text 541-404-5141 to let her know. You are now allowed to take a picture of an OB question and show it to the TD’s at lunch or after the round. If there are scoring questions, please do not submit your scorecard until they are ruled on. In that case, your whole group needs to come to the TD’s after the round for a ruling.
HOLE ASSIGNMENTS: Hole assignments for Round 1 are up at the following link. This is also where you will find your Round 2 starting time and holes as soon as we can get them finalized following Round 1.

Other Notes:
The course will not be available to practice before Sunday. With it being a golf course, they will be open for golfers on Saturday and our course layouts do not work to share the course safely for us, or the golfers.
The restaurant is not open at all this year. The staff will still be providing lunch to all players but there is no option to purchase breakfast, lunch or dinner after the round. They are currently in between restaurant hosts and doing a bit of a remodel on the space. We still have the banquet room at a minimum to hang out in and to do check in but it won’t be the same service as normal unfortunately. If players want to buy a beer at lunch or after the round, they can do so in the club house. Remember those drinks must be consumed on breaks and any alcohol consumption during the rounds will be an automatic DQ. No exceptions.
Dropping out/Refunds
After 9:30am Friday, no refunds will be given for dropouts per PDGA refund policies.
Pro payouts are going to be posted tonight along with first round groups. Pro's are playing for their entry fees and a share of the $1000 in added cash for this event. AM divisions are players pack/trophy only. Please remember that $27 of each entry is paid to the golf course for renting the property. This was advertised on the discgolfscene page and is in accordance with PDGA guidelines.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out to us. A huge thank you to Innova Discs for being our title sponsor of the event and to Innova/Anthony Hammerschmith and Resistance Discs/Tiger Discs for stepping up as our course sponsors for this year. Anthony/Innova along with Tiger Discs will likely be on site to vend if you are looking for anything specific. Anthony will have all new/cool Innova products while Tiger Discs will have non-Innova brands for sale.
A huge thank you to Resistance Discs and the Southern Oregon Winter Series for providing the baskets for us to use for this event and being our basket sponsor.
If there are any course notes/changes after we do set up on Saturday, I will send one following email Saturday night.
Thanks!
