Hello Ice Bowlers (all 94 of you!!!),
I hope you're as excited as I am for tomorrow! I've got a lot of information to pass along so I'll try to keep this as succinct as possible.
Thank you to Eric Trippany and CNYDGA weekend league for their incredible $675 contribution this year!!! Thanks also to Play It Again Sports -- Syracuse, Meier's Creek Brewing Company and CNYDGA putt club as well as hole sponsors Eric Trippany, Dana Skinner, Jason Guerdon, Jim and Mistie West, Crysta Kovach and Dustin Clearo! We're well on our way to crushing the $3,000 we've raised the past couple of years!
Some priority reminders:
-bring something for the potluck lunch (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ntaEfwwB1ihIUfI8bI5sVnP3n5-e9IyTvYtUV-ITQy8/edit#gid=0)
-bring something for the raffle
-bring extra putters for mulligans
-Sullivan is a dry park so let's be respectful of their rules. I don't want to see open alcohol containers around tournament central or the parking lot (there are cameras). There will be solo cups available at the park building, as an FYI.
Check-in (8:30-9:15)
Jeff Gilbert and I will be set up in the park building on the right side of the entry road. Unless you're dropping off a crockpot or something difficult to carry for the potluck lunch, please proceed directly to the parking lot and walk back over for check-in with your raffle/potluck items.
All ams (including Mixed players) receive a $10 credit to the CNYDGA store. Included in our inventory will be a selection of Ice Bowl discs and merch. At this time, you can also buy into the ace pot if you didn't online as well as buy raffle tickets.
Chili bowlers: I'll have spots on the counter marked off and pieces of paper to put your name and chili info. Please bring a serving utensil if you can. I have sample cups, bowls and spoons covered.
The golf (9:30-1ish)
We'll be playing one round of best-shot doubles on a 23-hole layout. The layout has been updated on UDisc and will be active tomorrow for live scoring. The platform recently changed how they do event scoring so I'm hoping for smooth sailing, but prepared with paper cards should they be needed. On UDisc, please have just one player on your team check in. The app doesn't have doubles capabilities currently. Mulligans must be kept by hand on the paper scorecard. My recommendation: one player on each card keeps score on UDisc, another keeps mulligans on paper.
Tee assignments:
MPO: Whites
Mixed: Men throw whites, women reds
MA2: Whites
MA3: Whites except for red tee on 1B
Mixed, MA2 and MA3 are playing with unlimited $1 mulligans. MPO players get 10 re-throws at $2 each. Taking a re-throw means that individual player is abandoning their previous throw. Use your 10 throws in any way you please.
Temp holes: There'll be a three-hole loop between 1 and 2 (1A, 1B, 1C). After holing out on 1, take the path to the left down the hill and to your left you'll see a tunnel shot. That's 1A. After holing out on 1A, backtrack slightly and take a left toward the pond. Walk around the right edge of the pond and you'll see the tees for 1B, which plays to an elevated pin over a short water carry. 1C plays through the pavilion (mandos indicated below), back across the water. From that basket, 2's tee is just around the corner.
3A will play up the left side of the entry road, leading you directly to 3.
11A will require players to hole out on 11, take a quick left in the field and walk down past the baseball backstop. There'll be tees marked playing from off the left side of the backstop to left-center field.
Thanks to Kyle Rath, Lenny Kerznowski, Mike Thomas and Amber Stout for providing the temp baskets!
OB for the day (everything plays standard unless otherwise noted):
1B: Surrounded by water
1C: Double mando through pavilion posts directly in front of red tee (no throwing around the pavilion)
3: Road right and across
3A: Road right and across
5: Road right and across
6: Road left and across
9: Volleyball court, parking lot long
11A: Gravel path, parking lot long
12: The main fairway will play as an island. This starts across the horizontal creek and is defined on the right side by the water's edge. That means for a drive to be played, it MUST land in bounds (please disregard the tee sign, which indicates that shots must only pass over the in-bounds area). If both tee shots go OB, that team proceeds to the red tee to shoot 3. From there, OB (surrounded by water and across) plays standard.
16: Mando tree is in play. If both players miss mando, proceed to red tee and shoot 3.
All division winners get an Ice Bowl ESP SuperColor Buzzz! The top 50% of teams for am divisions will get a merch credit payout to the CNYDGA store.
Projected pro payout for our eight teams:
1 $200
2 $120
3 $80
Hole assignments (I'll let you know if anything changes before tomorrow morning
Potluck lunch/chili bowl
After your round, please confirm your final scores on UDisc and collect mulligan money for the card. It is payable via cash at the park building or PayPal ([email redacted]). The plan is that food will be ready for players as they finish up and, considering the limited indoor space we have, I encourage you to grab some grub and shuffle back outside to make room for others.
For the chili, please only use a sample cup until everyone has a chance to try all of the different chilis. We've got at least 10 of them coming so I encourage you to try them all. We can proceed to bowls once everyone has finished their round and gotten an initial pass on the chili.
I will have a ballot box set up with paper and pencil. All tasters can write down the name of an entry and put it in the box.
Winner gets a 2024 CNYDGA membership/club pack, $20 to PIAS - Syracuse and an Ice Bowl ESP SuperColor Buzzz! Prizes (and trophies!) for top three!
Raffle
I've got a solid pool of raffle items including a DD Charcoal Commander, PIAS - Syracuse gift cards, Meier's Creek beer/merch and Ice Bowl merch, but please bring something to contribute if you can! Anything new/like new will do and it doesn't have to be disc golf-related. Most of you know the drill at this point.
I think that covers it, but as always just ask if you have a question or suggestion.
See you all bright and early!
Stephen
