WOW! 70 players showed up today and fought the cold and windy elements. It got downright nasty out there during the event as the temperatures dropped and the gusts became more intense as the day drew closer to its end. Typically, the winds began to die down as the award ceremony began.
While there were many winners in today's events including the disc golf tournament and the famous FREEZEBEE Chili-Cook-Off, the big winner was the Detroit Capuchin Soup Kitchen. At last count we surpassed last year's donation of $7400 and may have eclipsed the $8000 mark. The final numbers will be in in a few days when all of the donations are collected. We do know for certain that the non-disc event winners are: Chef Schulte: 3 X Winner of the FREEZEBEE Chili Cook-Off, Derek Michalak once again is a return winner since the dawn of time on collecting funds with $803, and Scott Bernie Burnham is also a long time returning champ with food collected weighing in with 315 lbs of food and still collecting. The Metro Detroit Disc Golf League (Louis Caponi WPD & Ted Stoebling WPD) also kicked in with over $500 and the Double Tap Putting League kicked in major funds as well. There were way too many great donations by groups and individuals to list all of them but every one helps culminate this event into what it has become. Pat and Gloria Olheiser brought the FUNacho machine again and many people enjoy it.
Dan James once again did a great job as your Tournament Director. Chris Leo and Mat Stivers did a great job keeping the event running smooth. Mat not only brought the much needed tarp to wrap the pavilion and the heater but also jumped right in when I blew myself up and tried to gather myself.
We will be taking the final donation down to the Soup Kitchen on Monday, January 18, 2016. Our annual trip normally takes a couple of hours. Anyone willing to go along is welcome, it truly is an eye-opening experience.

GUY and GALS... this is a charity event supporting the Detroit Capuchin Soup Kitchen that has been going on for 15 years here in Metro Detroit. I have participated for the last 6 of them and during that time i have taken the prize for providing the highest cash donation by getting pledges. I think it's time that we make a competition out of this. I am offering up a personal bounty of $50 for anyone that can beat my cash donation this year. That will be $50 in your pocket to do what you want with it. All you have to do is start asking your friends and family to contribute some cash. Believe it or not, most people will contribute if you ask. All i do is send out 2 emails, one with all the info and one that is just a reminder. Because this is a friendly competition and the only true winner is the Capuchin Soup Kitchen, i will offer up my email to anyone that wants to send it out to their friends and family. Last time i checked all of us have a roof over our heads and food in our bellies daily. By contributing to this effort you will help supply other people that are less fortunate then us to have a meal to eat. I have also heard a rumor that there is someone else willing to offer up another bounty if you can beat my cash donation.
