Couple things I wanted to put out there before you start coming up:
Waitlisted people
We're totally full on this one. I like to try and accommodate people the best I can....ruining my own sanity. HAHAHAHA...and people are still emailing/calling/messaging to try and get in.
If you're not gonna make it out on Saturday for whatever reason (you've decided that my email scared you off). Let me know and lets get others moved up on the list.
Road Construction/Road Condition to Course
There is some construction going on the dirt-road going to the course. They said they're obligated to keep access open...just want to let you know that's what is happening when it looks like the road is closed.
If you've never been to Thunderbird Gardens, you'll get a good glimpse into dirt roads in southern Utah.
The road is doable in a car, but you have to be a bit strategic with your driving.
Take it slow and take some of the bumps/rocks at angles.
They did grate it recently, but that only does so much.
If you feel like your car is incapable of driving up there. Park down on the street near the ball golf course. DO NOT park in the golf course parking. There is plenty of room on the street.
Then start wandering up the road toward the disc golf course and a fellow disc golfer can pick you up to take you the rest of the way.
Parking
Please carpool.
If you're coming from out of town, maybe talk to those who are also coming from the same town as you and try to arrange something.
If you're from town do the same.
The less cars the better!
We'll have someone out there to help facilitate where to park.
Don't park like a jackass!
Check-in
Arrive on the early side of that 8:30-930 check-in. Makes life easier for me.
If you have a SUDGA tag have it ready to hand in that would be wonderful and save me some time.
Those that have tags...send me your number now.
Those that don't have tags (either you're not a member or you just purchased one and this will be your first event with us)...don't worry about this step.
Players Pack
AM players we'll have your $15 credit available.
Mook will also be setup at the event if you want to use it right away. And I believe he can put it online if you talk to him at the event (he can text me and yell at me if I'm wrong about this).
Mountain Course
In my last email I said this course is NOT cart friendly. I want to reiterate that.
BRING A BACKPACK TO CARRY YOUR DISCS....I guess you can hold them in your hand if you want, but you've been warned.
I added this specific bullet point just to check that you read through the email this far. When you check in on Saturday...give me a, "hail hydra."
This is a mountain course. The front nine are fairly level ground, but the back nine can get ya climbin'.
Taking a REASONABLE LIE/RELIEF FROM OBSTACLES
PDGA Rules: 802.05 and 803.02
Become familiar with these rules and when you can move a lie without a penalty.
Before you move a disc that is in a weird/awkward/crazy/dangerous place. YOU NEED TO GET A CARD CALL ON YOUR LIE AND WHERE IT SHOULD BE MOVED TO.
You'll probably end up in a bush at some point...it's going to suck, but you can get a foot in there.
You'll probably end up on a rock somewhere...don't put yourself in danger of falling off a cliff.
This one could get tricky to make a fair call. We think we've marked most of the dangerous areas...but inevitably someone will find a crazy spot. GET A CARD CALL, PLAY PROVISIONS, ETC.
STAY TO THAT THREE MINUTES FOR A LOST DISC.
Also on the holes with big canyons (14 and 15) if you throw down there and you can't see it from the top fairly quickly. Look for it after the round.
This is also a fairly tight course. Please be cognizant of this fact when you're throwing.
Only two holes are "blind" (1 and 11) but several teepads are fairly close to baskets.
Also 18 is just too cool of a hole to get rid of...just be ready for it.
Weather
There was concern earlier about snow on the course. On Wednesday we had our weekly league up there and there was one patch of snow I saw and it was in an OB area.
Looks wonderful up there.
That being said, anyone who has played Thunderbird knows that it is swirly wind up there almost all the time.
It's looking like we're gonna get some "fun" wind in the afternoon.
Let me know if you have questions.
